Struck by LIGHTNING ⚡️ in a cemetery when I was 14. seed investor in Lucas, Zack, Uber, Salesforce, Sonder, Carta, Wag, Peerspace, HiFi Labs, Proto. Proud Dad.
Do not take money from a VC who hasn’t run a company for a few years / period. It won’t work out. I’m in deals with a couple and they’re useless. All they do is drain energy / never help. 💯 of the time.

It’s so great along the waterfront. Check out the Genesis store / next to meatpacking in meatpacking. Really cool bar, restaurant upstairs. They actually have a very cool event space / might be worth checking out.

30% or more of our founders fit into these categories - about 15-20x the average. It’s not intentional - it just is what it is. We invest in winners, and winners come in all colors and genders.

My highest performing investments have been based on intuition and how I feel about the market and founders. Not the best approach for everyone but all seed companies that I funded and have a valuation of $1b+ fit this criteria. SFSC, Uber, Sonder, Carta. We do have 10 filters.
What a great time with Fritz Maytag today. Such a gentleman and marketing genius. A great pleasure of mine. What a legacy. I learned lots from him in 90 minutes. 🙏
Just want to put it out there. Not all white male VCs suck. Some do, as do some female VCs I’m in deals with. I know this may not land well but I need to say it.
@TimHinchliffe
His driver’s license analogy is completely wrong. To the contrary, perhaps they should have been required before a bunch of people died. 🤔
@CoryMckane
I work when I’m in the mood to do it, and do what I’m in the mood to do. It’s much more effective. I will admit, I have the luxury of variety. I like your approach.
When we first invested in Wag in the seed round we thought it might be a decent size company with a "good" return. Now, with $300m of fresh capital, it feels like they're just getting started.

What was he doing when you thought he was cool and smart, and what’s he doing now that makes you think otherwise. I haven’t been following but am curious. Thanks
I’m not sure I get any value from Twitter / likely negative value. Anyone else feel this way? Instagram, yes. LinkedIn, maybe. I think I’m about to scoot.
This is kind of crazy. I’m still at pretty large shareholder in Uber, but the same exact car service is half price on Lyft curbside at LAX actually just under half price. No chance I’m gonna pay double for the same ride.
We all miss this guy so much. 13 years since we’ve seen you in the flesh, but your memory lives with us every day. I’m doing everything I can to make you proud big brother - I love you Billy.
@BrianBrackeen
That’s not necessarily true. I’ve made 3 investments at $50k or less (out of funds $50m or less or personal $) and made 200x-10,000x my investment (and many more at 10x, which is a win). Asking about a trillion $$ exit is silly, though.
When I first started investing in 1995, I relied on Motley Fool as my go-to source for top stock info. I can credit them for my seed investment in Salesforce in 1999. It was an honor to talk with them last week. Thanks
