Proud cat lady & professional cat herder living rent free in J.D. Vance's head. Oh yeah, and I vote. Outside the charmed circle of the ecclesia. Jesus is Lord.
Mark Driscoll’s “Real Marriage” is horrible from the first page. On pp 11-12, Driscoll berates his wife Grace for cutting her long hair and she’s no longer sexy. Oh, and then there’s the vision about premarital sex and a threat of divorce. This book was recommended in *churches*.
@RevDaniel
@Newsweek
Well, if TS is "not a good role model," then I (64, single, never married, childless) is a *terrible* role model for people who think that marriage and children are the only thing women should be doing with our lives. I'll take it.

*drily* Isn't it Christian theology that Jesus died to pay a debt you could not pay? *snort* Wexre really finding out who paid attention in Sunday School, aren't we?

I stand outside a church that's basically filled with these awful, awful people on Sundays. They believe the state should execute any woman who has an abortion. They also believe the earth is only between 6,000 and 10,000 years old. It's unbearable.
@JKentuckyC
@KyleGarnerMO
She was charged with "abuse of a corpse." Holy moly, she went to the hospital twice and was sent home. Why are you people so incredibly indifferent to what was happening?
@Cluffalo
Please. This woman and her family's farm has little to do with the sharecropping my late father did as a child in Okkahoma during the Great Depression. It's worlds apart. She is very lucky and needs to realize that.
@BradWilcoxIFS
@pewresearch
You might want to consider that maybe women are tired of having to carry most of the labor in a marriage, including caring for man-children husbands who expect to becwaited upon habd and foot.
@_SJPeace_
As I've been saying, the high school students bused in by their thousands to DC for the "march for life" were there for a bad purpose to start, that is to urge legislators to pass laws against women controlling our bodies. So the rest of it is actually no surprise whatsoever.
@bergerbell
seriously? I'm fully vaccinated, but I'm also immunocompromised in a couple different ways. Because I live in an area with asshats (gee, there was a Matt Gaetz/MTG rally three miles from my house last night), I'm wearing my mask. It's not panic, it's REALITY.
@nathanalberson
No, spanking is assault, dude. It's legal assault, it shouldn't be and if you tried to do this to an adult, you'd be arrested for assault and batter or (depending on age) elder abuse. If it's WRONG to hit adults, it's WRONG to hit kids. STOP IT. /got hit as a kid.

@benshapiro
Jordan Peterson is directly quoted as saying he believes in "enforced monogamy." Sorry, we women are not resources to be doled out to sexually-starved men. Peterson deserves the criticism he is getting. Signed, a woman tired of this nonsense.

@BethMooreLPM
Not a Beth Moore fan girl (most definitely not) but let's not disparage what she's done here. She's the most prominent Evangelical to call out the Trump worship in Evangelicalism. She is braver than the men who tell her to sit down and shut up (and oh, they have!).

I can't believe you're an OB/GYN. My mother nearly died from preeclampsia giving birth to me in 1960. Preeclampsia is still a thing. Pregnancy is not all puppies, kittens, unicorns and rainbows. If that's how you approach it with your patients, they're in danger!
@pirpirikos
@benshapiro
no, that's not what he was saying. It's not about polygamy, it's about the idea that Peterson sees women as resources to be distributed out to men. He doesn't see women as human, only property. And polygamy is awful, I've read about the FLDS.
@LchanPlays
@lisalibrarian
Back in the day (why yes, I am an OLD) it was considered unseemly to have your bra straps show, so girls didn't wear bras...then they got sent home for not wearing bras with their spaghetti strap tops. A LOT of time was spent policing undergarments.
@rickpidcock
A married woman in Texas could not dispose of her separate property (e.g., inheritance or something she owned prior to marriage) without her husband's permission until 1968. Of course a husband could dispose of his separate property, no permission needed.

Yeah, this blew me away: "Years later, White characterized Newman’s wife as the “initial layer of accountability” against abuse." Why are women seen as the guardians of male purity? Can't men control themselves? PS Thanks for the story.
@kamiron_
Because if you did the same thing to an adult, it would be assault and battery. We've carved out an exception so that parents can beat their children, which is shameful. I got beat as a kid and I can tell you all it made me was a better liar.

@zoomertea
*rolls eyes* My grandmother was a sharecropper in Great Depression-era Oklahoma. That was *hard work*. She did this to support her family (three little kids) after her husband divorced her. This GenZ "girly" doesn't have an effing clue.

Look--her religious belief says that I, as a woman, do not have control over my body. I think that's pretty darn important. I don't particularly want to be enslaved by a religious belief that says my body is not my own.
@JessicaValenti
Jessica, can you make a point of asking pro-lifers what they think the punishment should be for a woman who aborts? I protest on Sundays at a church where the leaders want the state to execute women who have abortions.
@BryanforHD2
Back in 1977, I lived in Texas. I had sex once and I thought I was pregnant. I was 16 years old. So a friend got me in touch with a "pro-life nurse". She got me a pregnancy test, told me I was not pregnant, and then told me I was a slut. For having sex ONCE. 1/

@emilykmay
I dunno, this is one of those instances where I'd be calling the civil authorities (cops) as opposed to letting the church handle it internally. There may be more than meets the eye.
She has a point. While I was at the pharmacy yesterday, the hours for today & tomorrow were being reduced *again*, the drive-thru was closed & one of the staff felt fine after 5 days but tested positive for COVID, so had to go home. We may be heading towards a crash. Stock up.
We’ve been understandably focused on the healthcare & school systems crashinh, but what other systems get disrupted when the majority of the country is ill? What’s the timeline? Is anyone analyzing that? How does this play out globally?

Hey Leah-nice attempt to try and separate your ectopic pregnancy from abortion. It fails, however, because some states are treating the removal of ectopic pregnancies as potential abortions. Your garbage is hurting women!
Women are going to hospitals with a life-threatening nonviable ectopic pregnancy but the doctors can't do anything about it until her vitals start crashing, which the doctors hope is enough of a "medical emergency" to satisfy Missouri's Republican AG.

And while we're at it, ectopic pregnancy is included in the same section as spontaneous abortion in the ICD-10. It's kind of astonishing how billing codes tell the truth better than anti-abortion people who want to avoid that miscarriage is classified as a spontaneous abortion.
