Hey y'all the day you have long awaited is finally here. that's right me and
@jomposhart
episode of
@p2chillPodcast
about Sinclair Lewis's novel Arrowsmith & ft incredible art from
@DEEP_RED_BELLS
that really captures the spirit of the thing
fwiw rachel kushner absolutely nails france / europe in a way most american writers seem incapable of doing
"The real Europe is not a posh café on the rue de Rivoli with gilded frescoes [...] The real Europe is a borderless network of supply and transport."
at the place de la concorde people are chanting "we decapitated Louis XVI and we can start again, Macron" in protest of the forcing through of a raise of the retirement age without a parliamentary vote
Roald Dahl was a virulent, unrepentant antisemite, a nasty little man, but most importantly he was pimped out by William Stephenson as a rent boy to the rich & famous.
@AliceAvizandum
so many unintentionally revealing quotes but my favorite might be: "in the private theatre of my mind, the curtains closed at every turn." no kidding. lmfao
A few years ago I was at the National Gallery for a Miró exhibition and there was a little French kid, age 7 or so, who told their elegant Parisian mother "I could paint that" and she flatly replied "No you couldn't."
Peak Fronch parenting moment I gotta say, incredible
Making an abstract art exhibit where if a guest says “I could paint that,” a fresh canvas and paints are lowered from the ceiling and a booming prerecorded voice says “DO IT THEN, SHIT HEAD”
by the way though, those colorful little almond cookies with ganache fillings are *macarons* not *macarOOns*. macaroons are the coconut cookies you eat at passover.
there is a haunted apartment building outside Paris. to cover all their bases, a priest *and* an imam have been asked to come do an exorcism of the building, where residents have reported seeing a phantom figure, furniture moving around, and strange knocks in the walls 👻
for a discipline that complains a lot about not getting the respect they deserve, they are incredibly smug about their own ignorance. can you imagine if a political theorist said, "anytime i have to learn how elections actually work, that's a bad sign"? ffs.
@RottenInDenmark
the passive phrasing "how quickly to transition children" is so telling/malicious, implying it's something being done *to* them. Children have agency!!!
Baudrillard stands outside Space Mountain, chain smoking: « This is but a monument to our inability to truly live in space, a simulacra of scientific progress. »
For too long there has been an unnecessary division between the mascot and furry communities. With their new mascot, the Seattle Kraken are excited to do their part to bring these two groups together.
disgraced Dr. Francesca Gino who falsified data multiple times really told on herself by writing a book entitled Rebel Talent: Why It Pays to Break the Rules at Work and in Life (2018)
Baudrillard, at Beaubourg, chaperoning a school field trip: « Children, this is a mausoleum of art--sterile, complacent. Though it appears we have lost little Capucine. Has anyone seen her? Oh well, no matter. She is just as unreal as these paintings. »
@christapeterso
literally they whine like it's a hobby. nothing could be more annoying. An entire nation of "but you won't hit me im a little guy it's my birthday I'm a little birthday boy"
i stumbled on this incredible text "A Child's Guide to Freud" by Louise Armstrong (1963) and i feel it would be wrong of me not to share some choice excerpts of it with y'all (1/7)
@RottenInDenmark
yeah that's why everyone knew about the Manhattan project, Tuskegee syphilis trials, Iran-Contra, Pat on, etc. while they were going on and not after the fact 🙃
As a hub of the military industrial complex, it is only fitting that Seattle be the town to finally give the furry community the respect and public recognition they deserve.
@Zak_NYCMetroWx
@NateSilver538
If you read the article, it says specifically it presumes a free and fair election. So, no, it does not take into account stolen ballots, etc.
I feel like not enough people have read this wonderful interview with Pamela Paul by Molly Fischer in the New Yorker. The NYT Book Review editor for almost a decade and the only author Pamela can name that she likes is...Christopher Hitchens. 🤡
@AliceAvizandum
when folks are out here simping for oil companies it's usually a good idea to simply follow the money. except oddly and not at all suspiciously in the case of
@capx
you can't lol
I know I'm a bit late to this but buried in that insane Bill Ackman profile is Israelis and the former CIA director doing Stargate conspiracy with a MoMa curator. Plus ça change ...
there are only six episodes of the official CIA podcast The Langley Files. very tempted to live tweet them...
one thing I will say about the Agency is that graphic design is definitely their passion
Baudrillard, at the Porte d'Auteil Carrefour, shopping for Sunday dinner: « I do not know what is more absurd--that this hypermarché, this factory of montage, is an agglomeration without meaning or that my wife has told me to buy something called "vegan sausages". »

@BirdWendy2
's "Aberrations" has me thinking a lot about Alec Soth's "Broken Manual: Somewhere to Disappear." He's an artist who was inspired by photog Richard Barnes who shot this iconic photo of the Unabomber's cabin (in addition to lots of bird swarms) 1/
jk he's a staff writer at the atlantic of course i know: he just wants to be reassured that just because he thinks it's fine to misgender people he isn't fash.
”Queerness and the state are doubly alienated. Not only does queer theory have little interest in the state—it also has no use for it. After all, the state is in itself that which is normal, legitimate and dominant.”
describing Dave McGowan as "empirically untethered and/or unscrupulous" after you spent a day pretending you didn't know 1488 was a N*zi dogwhistle is just ... wow.
Thérapies de conversion homosexuelles au LSD - 1960
y a quatre ans aujourd’hui, je travaillais dans la bibliothèque de l’hôpital Sainte-Anne à Paris pour y consulter les volumes des Annales Médico-Psychologiques.
Baudrillard, on the ticketless Metro: « Today, there are no more Metro tickets. Soon, there will be no more passengers. And yet--still no where to sit on Line 13. »
a picture of a woman standing alone, doing absolutely nothing but looking worried & watching tv with the caption "we are in this fight together" is the best distillation of the democratic party I've ever seen
I know there are women out there who are afraid. To those of you who feel alone and scared: I want you to know the President and I are fighting for you and your rights. We are in this fight together.
@CaelanConrad
Couldn't help but roll my eyes at this whole thing. Posting about her "trans twin" (does this person exist?), then snarking at someone for misgendering him, then using she/her pronouns for this person a few weeks later. Just all over the map and unhinged posting always.
my short story "The Headless Order" is out now in
@ImpossWorlds
. gorgeously laid out & illustrated and deeply spooky. based on a true story of obsession, sacrifice, and secret societies. for just $5 you can read it & further tales of weirdness and wonder.
@DrSarahLiu
you're crying about £3000 when people have literally risked their lives to stand in solidarity with picket lines. do you just have no backbone or do you really think you're that important?
I (probably unwisely) dipped my toe in the true crime sauce to talk about one of the most under-studied serial killers in American history, Israel Keyes, who I am unreasonably obsessed with. Check it outttt 💅
@christapeterso
sometimes I think about how his dad lied about teaching at Boston college law school like. maybe kind of a weird grifty family altogether.
@RottenInDenmark
If I had a tinfoil hat, I'd say it's very suss this article is coming out when the mayor of Paris is running for president and one of her major initiatives has been more bikes, less cars in Paris. Which, btw, is pretty safe to bike in, if not perfect.
@JeanneD7766
yes, this is from her new book just out, Creation Lake. there's been quite a lot of Discourse about it this week and i admittedly haven't finished reading it, but this passage really stood out to me.
