Letter writers - Think about how your language (even if positive) is gendered. For example, are you commenting on how "passionate" a woman applicant is and how "productive" a man applicant is? That, my friend, is gendered because being "passionate" does not get women promoted. 4/

Also to white, male profs who say they don't care about titles: It's a privilege to be indifferent about the Dr/Prof title. Your white/maleness grants you authority, whereas WoC/PoC have to earn that respect. So when you act cool, you're actually making others look less cool.

I got a review back asking the submitting author to hire a "native speaker" to proofread. Using my power as @RepJournal Associate Editor, I deleted the "native speaker" part in my decision letter and simply asked the author to ask someone with a pair of fresh eyes to proofread.

Universities - Why not make applications anonymous? My experience tells me that the research activities, rather than agenda/topics, are discussed. So blanking out these details that could reveal one's gender ID is possible. Also, maybe you should ditch meritocracy altogether. 6/

The sad thing is, I can't advise on what PoCs should do as there are simply not enough PoC academics in the pool. Many fixed-term positions are held by PoC who may not ever be considered for promotion. How to recruit, retain, and promote PoC is a problem we need to address. 8/

I always tell my students to never write a section called “literature review.” When writing a research paper, it’s not about reviewing the literature. Rather, it’s about developing and presenting their own theoretical arguments, derived from the literature they review.

Oh I kid. There was never gonna be a “last” tweet from me. For those who asked me to clarify how the film was racist - well, discrimination against trans has huge racial impacts. Trans PoC face multiple forms of oppressions - trans issue is a race issue.
