Malay cooking is tedious - so many ingredients, dicing, blending, purée, sauté, spices, mixes, balancing strong flavors, mostly “agak-agak” (no fixed recipes). So raya open houses are very special. It’s like “I poured my heart and sweat into these dishes and this is all for you”

I can get behind this. When we go to Korea, we put on hanbok and take photos. When we go to Japan, we wear kimono. We have beautiful things here, too. My only suggestion would be to do indoor photoshoots in old Peranakan houses instead of jalan2 Jonker sbb panas la wei panas

Tak payah nak cakap pasal lockdown lah. People have no savings anymore. Salaries have declined. The income distribution in Malaysia has shifted left. I doubt there’ll be any more cash aid. We need to take all steps to make sure this isn’t even a choice we have to make.

I dunno, man. My husband and I met when we were teenagers. This year is our 10th year wedding anniversary. Our first date was on a park bench where we ate bread and talked about random things for 4 hours. Sometimes you don’t need fancy, you just need the right person 😅🤷🏾‍♀️

Heard a story from a friend stranded on the highway about how he ditched his car and walked 3 km to a hotel with his wife - only to find that the hotel was charging RM 400 a night. Clown business. Regulators should have capped hotel prices along highways to avoid this

I’ve seen so many loved ones suffer from burnout due to this “hustle” culture. It eats at you. Working non-stop and for what? I would not glorify this la. Issue is that if you keel over one day, the system will just replace you with somebody else. Please take care of yourself.

If you like pizza, you should try Khirwan’s brick oven pizza in Bukit Jelutong. They operate from a food truck with the oven in the back. Delicious stuff, freshly made. This was the beef pepperoni - with caramelized onions, mozzarella, and a healthy sprinkling of oregano.

I am realizing how spoilt my cats are because I just fed a kucing kurap at a restaurant a chicken wing and he ate the entire thing - bones and all. Kucing rumah doesn’t even eat kibbles that are out for more than a day sebab lemau not crispy enough 🤡

Malaysia has the best pineapple in the world - full stop. For an extra experience, lightly salt your cut pineapples - it’s a lovely tip I learned awhile back. Salt right before you eat. It makes it taste sweeter and more complex.

This T20/M40/B40 classification has gotten us all weird. E.g. T20 is about >11K household income per month and above. So a household that makes 110K per month is in the same category as one that makes 11K per month based on this classification. But there are worlds within the T20

My hot take for today is that if you really want to see langit-bumi, you should sit in an academic webinar with Indonesian academics and then Malaysian academics. If you want more spice, you can also do this for Thailand. And then you can go cry and eat cake. I am not lying.

I feel very sad that people really don’t want to wear masks anymore. It’s one of the few things that keeps my unvaccinated toddler, alongside millions other small kids who can’t get the jab yet, safe. It’s very little to ask of society. So very little.

Kuih is very sick with kidney failure and we didn’t think he’d see 2022 but here he is. We are waiting for him to signal that he is ready to say goodbye. So far, he’s still doing his cat thing. He’s been a good friend and we will try to give him a dignified death.

I went to check out Hari Kraf Kebangsaan, a week-long event on Jalan Conlay, this AM with my mom. I’ve been here before, really recommend it if you like browsing for crafts, baju, etc - and if you like chatting with the makers. They have a 30 off every 100 ringgit spent deal now

DG Hisham has shown that press conferences can be done in a mask. Lecturers and teachers have been teaching for hours in masks. Small children, like teeny tiny humans, are now trained to keep on a mask for hours at a time. Entahlah

PSA: Schools are open. Children are back. We’ve vaccinated barely 0.1% nationally. While the economy reopens, please keep this in mind - SLOW THE SPREAD. Limit activities in public. INFECTIONS ARE STILL HIGH. Do not get used to 1-2K per day as being “good” - it is HIGH.

You have to show 2 dose vaxx certificate to go eat at a mamak store, mainly outdoors. But you don’t have to show one to return to university in October, indoors and air-conditioned. There are no guidelines on ventilation. Good luck to us

I said goodbye to Kuih today. He stopped being himself this week, stopped running to me when I opened a can of tuna. It was time. We gave him a quick and painless death after ten wonderful years together. I wish I could’ve done more. We will miss him forever. Rest well, buddy.

Kuih is very sick with kidney failure and we didn’t think he’d see 2022 but here he is. We are waiting for him to signal that he is ready to say goodbye. So far, he’s still doing his cat thing. He’s been a good friend and we will try to give him a dignified death.

We went to the playground today with our toddler. Another little girl came with her dad wearing a pretty, fluffy pink dress. After the girl left, our 2 yo went: “Where did the princess go??!?” Daddy: “She went home to her castle.” Toddler: “Wow 😯”

I think we forgot how bad Covid was. So many ppl died every day. Parents ripped from young kids, harrowing stories of pregnant women gasping for breath, large groups of old people, rare but still happened kids deaths from MIS-C. Ex ante: any approved vaccine was a good vaccine
