This is not really the entire truth. The rich have yachts, private jets, — some even own islands, among others. These are things the poor can't afford. To each, his own.
And the rich do wear expensive suits & stuff. You think the designers are largely patronised by the poor?
The China Mall-West Hills Mall saga is a fascinating one.
When the mall culture was introduced, it was targeted at high-income earners. Prices were too high. Accra Mall, Marina Mall, A&C Mall, & West Hills Mall. To buy an item from any shop in these malls became a status badge.
This video is more explosive than Anas' exposé but because it implicated Ken Ofori-Atta, in addition to Charles Adu Boahen, it was glossed over. This video has been in the system longer than KKD's vituperations/caustic rants.
This is Angélique Kidjo. Some of you need to understand that music isn't what YOU only listen to. What's popular to YOU isn't necessarily the best out there.
We, Ghanaians, love mediocrity. We will do everything to force people to become ordinary.
1. In school, classmates will tease you if you love to study. They'll call you derogatory names. This is the case from primary school to university.
Once again, I'm here to tell you that the African had no concept of a devil in the like of Biblical descriptions and attributions.
Again, note that, sasabonsam in Akan traditions isn't the equivalent of the biblical Satan. It was adopted, corrupted, and transformed.
So if the managers of these other Malls (including WHM) wants to compete, they should first cut down that outrageous price they charge for rent. And also change their strategy. The middle income earners are the second largest group. Mall isn't a status symbol.
I'm addition, it is these same high-end earners who travel abroad often & so are in a position to buy these items on their travels.
Then came China Mall with the same business strategy as Melcom but with more products. They targeted everyone. No pretentious branding.
It was funny seeing shops closing down after 6 months in operations. There was a bookshop inside Accra Mall. It closed by first converting into music shop. Ghanaians love to "niche" everything. Meanwhile the population of high-earners is too small to sustain a market.
Ghanaians have this confused understanding of respect. Fear isn't respect & vice versa. Parents beat their children until they cower & when they're unable to express themselves, they smile & claim their children are respectful.
No one ever beat respect out of anyone.

Funny enough I've seen some African Americans claiming it's a joke. You see the cognitive dissonance? Imagine a Caucasian saying "Blacks in America are violent and hoodlums", and later claiming it's a joke.
Every item is cheap. And because people care more about their disposable income, they voted with their feet. You can't be selling the same items and be charging 20x the price. What's the objective? Yes, CM may be undercutting the market or may be engaging in dumping.
filled with foreign goods and the ownership is anything but Ghanaian. Most often Ghanaians are minority shareholders or nonexistent. Besides, when it comes to purchases by middle- & low-income earners, price is king. Not patriotism. No one eats that.

The corruption under this government is massive and extensive and we shouldn't allow ourselves to focus only on this Galamsey Economy exposé. It's bigger than that. Many people are involved. It goes straight to the Mother Serpent of Corruption (MSC).

Cos the number no dey hia. How many times have we called people whose numbers we took. The thing is to vibe when you meet and go your different ways when it's over. It's even nicer when you meet in town. Any name goes... Normally that's how names are assigned!
Yesterday & Today have shown me that educational standards have drastically declined. Reading comprehension is no longer taught. Not our forte. But our fault. People read but cannot process what they read. Context is lost on people, let alone implied meaning.
Ghanaian youth are actually very lazy.
Imagine not knowing that you don’t need a job in an economic crisis. All you need is 50,000 cedis to buy one acre of farm land.
30,000 to fight land guards of the other 3 people the chief sold the same land to. 100,000 to go to court to
You set up a business, employ workers. The workers connive with buyers to steal from you. Then the business colapses and the workers go home.
This is basically the business-collapse cycle in Ghana.

When you're done, make are you don't get sick
Build your own school, hire your own teachers, your doctors, build your own roads, etc
There's a social contract between the people and their leaders. It's annoying when you come up with these things.
But that alone doesn't explain the wide disparities in prices. Many have complained about the per square meter shopping floor at these "highend" malls. It's outrageous. Besides, one can't even play the patriotic Ghanaian card. Because the shops in these highend malls are

The only hard work we appreciate is hard physical work. Not mental work. It's as if we still don't realise that the world has moved on from analogue to digital.
My roommate's classmate was told that he learnt as if the entire village contributed to bringing him to the university. Today, he's a Network Engineer at Meta.

Bushiri is an amazing talent. It takes skill to steal money. But to do it in plain sight and have the very people you robbed.. protect you? Not Ronaldinho skill. This is "turning water into wine" typa stuff. Salute. Milk them dry sir.
2. At the workplace, especially in government institutions, if you're industrious and initiative, your colleagues and your boss will become wary of you. They begin to feel threatened and will call you names until you revert to the ordinary. Who wants to be called "Post Kaya"?

It's no longer "if you go to Rome, you do what the Romans do."
Now it's "If you go to Rome, the Romans begin to do what you do"
There shouldn't be any universal culture that we all fit in. There should be a few guiding don'ts: steal, kill,...The rest should be location-specific

What we don't have to do is the superficial treatment of corruption. That we go for the optics & not the substance. Dua a ɛnya ɛbɛwɔ wo no yɛtu ase, yɛntwa so—(to wit) the tree that can puncture you should be uprooted not pruned or left as a stump.
Suddenly, I'm seeing all over the TL "M.anifest dey rap. M.anifest dey rap...".
Ah! What did you think we meant when we said M.anifest is the best? You folks didn't listen. It's all agenda & tomfoolery. When the blinkers are off, the truth will be out. You're all welcome
This is why governments fail to give us the barest minimum in everything. We clap stupidly at nothing.
I did better than the last person in class so clap for me.
I got aggregate 36, my friend got 37 so clap for me.

Nigeria's polls make me wanna ask:
Do we appreciate Ghana's Electoral Commission enough? Do we give them the credit due them for the great job they do with our elections?
And guess what, they've been top of their game for 25+ years.

Extra resources for what?

If it's free clearance, why do you need extra funds to clear them?

The song is about struggle, growth, reminiscence, & return. It's a retrospective take of the musician's life's journey to where he was at that time
We Ate hearts and drank beers
This song is about 11 years and talks about the life of M.anifest at a particular time in abroad and home.
The hook and the rhyme scheme
"...‘Madina To The Universe (MTTU)‘ simply reveals M.anifest at his very best. Driven by captivating lyricism and rich global sounds, the album is bold, transformative, and makes for his most creative and expansive body of work yet."

At the university, I'd hide my books when I'm passing through Always Around (Conti). A person needs to have a strong mental fortitude to understand that what they're doing isn't anything bad.

Didn't Beyoncé pay those she used as "fronts"? We're in a global world. We need to learn to transact business and stop this "they're exploiting our culture" thing. Does Beyoncé doing it prevent any African from doing it?
I can't understand this. We need to integrate.
A country that turns its problems into prayer topics solves nothing. That country is doomed forever.
The things we can learn from religion are the very things we are running away from: honesty, truthfulness, fellow-feeling. But we prefer to steal and pray.

I'm black and still can't stand this. It's condescending. It assumes that blacks can't compete on equal standards without they being specifically sought. What equality is, is to apply the same standards irrespective of race & gender.

It is the gaslighting for me. I pay taxes. I don't put my hands into public coffers. I pay my licenses & levies.
How much more shd I fix myself so that I can access & afford medical care? So that my roads get fixed? Afford food?
What's the size of the critical mass needed?
And to those who think I will ever justify Kennedy Agyapong's actions, this is my post from yesterday. I don't think money should replace values. It shouldn't. But the more independent you are, the more things you can do without any MAJOR harm to yourself.

It's funny to think that there are people who think Messi couldn't get more money from other teams than he is getting from Barca, if money were his objective. Football is his occupation and he does it best so get paid what he deserves. But if he wanted more, he'd have gone

Yes, it is. It shows people change, and what you see isn't what it is, just as most people thought your government would be better but ended up being the worst in the history of the land.
