Together with 72 others, I got let go from
@pitch
today. It's been wonderful working with such talented folks and I'm proud of what we built together. If you're looking for someone who works well in the intersection of product + engineering, DM me 😊
Today, we launched animations in
@Pitch
. ✨
Let me take you on a little journey of what it's like to build a feature that challenges what people know and expect from other tools.
Today is my first day at
@pitch
as a senior software engineer! I'll be working remotely from Amsterdam. I'm excited to get started and can't wait to meet everyone 🚀
Made my first
@framer
site. First take: reminds me of the joy I felt the first time I spooled up an app with create-react-app or the first time I deployed on
@Netlify
. From an engineering pov - I do miss direct control, but from a product pov - game changer.
Today, we launched
@Pitch
2.0 🎉
What makes this moment stand out to me is not just the features we built or new functionality we unlocked for users, but how we’re delivering on our broader vision, put simply, to help folks communicate visually.
Excited to announce a new feature my team and I have been working on
@Pitch
- focus effect! ✨
Bring your audiences attention to what matters most in the moment.
Say hello to the focus effect! 🔍
Now you can draw your audience’s attention to specific images, graphs, and other visual blocks in the player with just a click.
As I've recently joined
@pitch
, which is a remote company, I decided to turn our spare room into an office so I can more comfortably work from home. This is the room “before” (where all the boxes that haven't been unpacked from moving ended up). Below, a bit on the process 🧵
Over the summer, we built a nice little upgrade to motion in
@Pitch
- exit animations. Making this intuitive was deceptively trickier than first expected, but really loving where we landed on it.
And this is just the beginning! The world of animations is expansive. We can't wait to continue building on it from here.
Check out animations in
@Pitch
and let us know what you think! 👇
Something we called "focus effect" - a lightweight feature that packed a big punch. Like an extension of a natural hand gesture, you could click and focus on anything, anytime, to draw it front and center for your audience.
Also, after 2 years of bad lighting and Zoom angles - I've begun to upgrade my desk setup as well. It's still a WIP, but so far I am loving the sleek and simple
@OfficeStance
monitor stand and the
@elgato
Key Light Air.
So, starting today, you can animate blocks easily, beautifully, and near instantly onto your slides. We crafted the feature with a philosophy of simplicity - and instant feedback - for intuitive and compelling storytelling.
Focus effect gave people a new way of communicating their slides, but we quickly learned that folks still wanted more control and the ability to build in animations.
One 👠 Step 👠 At 👠 A 👠 Time
Animations are visual devices that can certainly enhance a narrative, but are tedious to create and often get in the way, pollute the visual frame, and cheapen the message. Now, the question is: Could we build animations to be intuitive to use and actually make better stories?
I joined
@Pitch
a little over a year ago and - like many of our users - was confused as to why a tool as good as Pitch lacked a "basic" feature that most presentation tools have.
I quickly learned that - like anything - it's because of REASONS. Most important being that, fundamentally, we're building a tool to help people tell their story. The question is: How do animations help people tell a story?
The answer is often, they don't.
Congratulations to
@Pitch
on launching v2.0! 🎉
I was able to play with the new Continuity feature ahead of time, and it makes it a breeeeze to animate decks from slide to slide 🫶
New today in
@Pitch
: recordings! 🎥
Recordings are a new way for you and your team to present together through short, expressive videos that live directly on your slides.
Head to our page on Product Hunt, give feedback, and try recordings yourself! 🙏
We know that - above and beyond all other storytelling devices - revealing one idea at a time is by far the most compelling. Building up your story, pacing the narrative, and keeping your audience's attention right where you want it are crucial.
With that in mind, we decided to challenge the existing approach to animations - the need to build slides with carefully calibrated transitions, timings, and effects - and explored something entirely new…
Up next? Block animations! 💫
Many of you have asked for this feature, and now we want your help getting it across the finish line. Join the beta to animate blocks onto slides →
I've always admired the creative synergy between my partner
@dvdwinden
and
@iiiriscuppen
-- I can't wait to see it come together in this tangible format. ✨
TRANSCRIPT is a written record of things. Of hard conversations, subtle movements, or silent encounters.
Printed in an edition of 100 issues. To be launched and shipped (within Europe) in the Spring of 2024.

The colors, lights & furniture make the room a place where I can focus on work, but also sit and relax with a book or do yoga as well. It's still *quite* sterile, but the warmth and coziness will come in phase 2: styling it! ✨
Next step: build bookshelves 📚
Yesterday was a really hard day at
@Pitch
. 50+ Pitchers are now looking for new opportunities:
This list represents the best talent I’ve ever had the chance to work with. Please share this with your networks, and help them take their next step. 🙏

Nice! I'm waiting for my new mac to arrive and then will install Detail (the OS on my loaner is too old 🥲). I'll send you an invite for coffee soon!
We bought the
@VarierFurniture
Variable kneeling chair to help reduce the effects of sitting at a dining room table for 2 years. I find at the end of the day I have much less neck and shoulder strain because it forces me to move around and adjust how I sit through the day.
We installed
@tweethue
in the spots and the main light, which has been *so* nice. I've set routines to adjust the lights throughout the day, which helps transitioning from “work” to “home” mode.

Easing and other granular controls like timing, different triggers, etc. are on our mind, but not on our immediate horizon. 😞 We’ll definitely explore ways to unlock more creativity and control for animations as we go forward.

@Fly_Norwegian
And told there's no repacking after they've weighed your bag, which is clearly a bid to increase revenue, not improve delays.
Sad to say goodbye to
@simple
tonight. I remember the bright blue rubber banded packaging they sent my solid white card in back in 2013 & have loved banking with them ever since. Thanks for 8 solid years of excellent customer service and changing how I believe banking should work
