Thanks to the DOJ for incentivizing the development of privacy tools that don't rely on centralized coordinators. 🫡

Everyone loved Muun from 2019 to 2022.
Self-custodial, user-friendly, and Lightning-powered.
But as on-chain transaction fees hiked, people dropped it. 🧗
Still, their legacy lives on. Here are 5 ways
@MuunWallet
innovated:
🧵
just found a company selling *paper* wallets made of *metal* 🤦♂️
it's so stupid that it looks like a parody
can you think of any bitcoin product that's dumber than this? 💩
Muun hasn't received major updates since 2022.
But I truly hope
@esneider

@sebareca

They were ahead of their time before, and I look forward to seeing them at the forefront once again! 👑
Funny how 24-word seed phrases feel safer than 12.
(probably a cognitive bias 🧠)
Doubling the word count offers no real advantage. 🤷♂️
And it's twice as cumbersome to backup.
12 is enough, don't waste your time with 24.
Muun hasn't received major updates since 2022.

It's been nearly a year since
@MicroStrategy
announced their Lightning Platform with rewards and more. Haven't heard any updates since. Does anyone know if they're still working on it?
One day, our great-grandchildren will hear stories about the fiat era.
They'll study history through our memes.
They'll question why humanity tolerated central banks for so long.
They will own everything and be happy. 🥹
I just set up my Swan Vault, and the user experience was incredibly smooth! 🔐
Using

You don't even need to install companion apps like Trezor Suite or Ledger Live.

Thumb 👍 Unlocks main wallet
Index 👆 Opens decoy wallet
Middle 🖕 Bricks the device
We need more opinionated Bitcoin products like
@TwentyTwoHW
's Portal.
Don't overwhelm users with a million choices on how to use your product.
Enabling people to do everything diminishes the UX for everyone.
Most products should guide their users, not the other way around.
Altcoins, tokens and NFTs aren't scarce. Anything issued on PoS networks is copiable because the cost of copying it is close to zero. There can't be digital scarcity independent from physical scarcity. A digital asset only becomes scarce when it also obeys the laws of physics.
Relying on swaps was never sustainable in the long term.
As a business, Muun probably lost money subsidizing fees.
Yet, users voted with their feet and flocked to Muun.
Unsurprisingly, people prioritize ease of use over a "true Lightning experience".
Fuck mask mandates, fuck lockdown, fuck compulsory vaccination, fuck concentration camps for unvaxxed. All this unethical nonsense that didn't end after the vaccine made me deeply regret getting vaxxed. I'll disobey and sell fiat money until all the slave masters starve to death.
Introducing the

Hardware wallets should feel more human:
🗣️ Read your seed phrase out loud
👕 Pin your life savings to your shirt
🤖 Select and label UTXOs with your voice
🤌 Verify transactions with your bare hands
Not your pin, not your coins!
5/ Muun's seedless backup was one of the first of its kind.
Users back up their email and password, not 12 words.
@Bitkeyofficial
took some notes. 📝
Muun also pioneered output descriptors.
Did you know that the first release of Bitcoin's source code included a poker game? 🃏
People have speculated about Satoshi's intentions for years.
Thanks to recently uncovered emails, we finally learned what happened.

4/ Muun was one of the first wallets to implement Taproot, improving privacy and reducing fees.
Taproot activated on November 14, 2021. Check the date on this post 👇
1/ In 2019, wallets like Eclair Mobile (by
@acinq_co
) and Lightning App (by
@lightning
) required users to understand payment channels.
Muun enabled you to pay Lightning invoices without knowing anything about the protocol.
2/ Muun was early to adopt submarine swaps, a recent invention by
@alexbosworth
and
@roasbeef
.
Rather than sacrificing user-friendliness to stay self-custodial, Muun opted to compromise on fees.
This tradeoff was reasonable during a time when 1 sat/vB was the norm.
Beware of security nihilism when reacting to
@Bitkeyofficial
.
@TankredHase
raised a valid point when introducing his 2-of-2 seedless cloud backup scheme:
In 1974,
@vgcerf
and Bob Kahn published a paper titled "A Protocol for Packet Network Intercommunication" describing a protocol for sharing data between network nodes. Eventually, it became known as TCP/IP, or, formally, the Internet Protocol Suite.

It's harder to be toxic speaking than typing! ☣️

@jack
Isn't their decision at least reasonable, considering that LSPs are closer to money transmitters than coinjoin coordinators?
Phoenix is more trusted than Whirlpool and will soon offer privacy properties that are pretty effective for money laundering.

True, I wasn't fond of their approach either. Still, I hope this event will bring more attention to JoinMarket, PayJoin, Silent Payments, etc.

The Silk Road intermediated over 9,519,664 BTCs in sales, contributing to the surge of the Bitcoin price from $0.91 to $128.36.
Poker was never needed to generate demand for Bitcoin.
Deep down, people already demanded freedom.

Satoshi designed bitcoin so that he or anyone independently wouldn't mater.
Satoshi didn't want to be sanctified or worshipped, Satoshi didn't want to be known.
Satoshi faded away, respect his wishes.
@muneeb
As developers in the Bitcoin ecosystem, we need to be careful about marketing. Most users are not technical and can take the wrong message. With
@Stacks
, we saw marketing messages like "A Bitcoin layer for
smart contracts," whereas Stacks was nowhere close to being a layer.

Congratulations on the launch!

Crypto is short for cryptography. When referring to unregulated securities issued on inefficient public databases, use "crypto", with the proper demeaningful quotation marks. Don't let pump and dumpers hijack such an important word.
Funny how
@xapobankapp
's example "address" doesn't resemble a Bitcoin address at all: aEKsdokf23ASDFKLerweñm2 😂
Seems like someone slept on the keyboard while designing this 😴
But does that immense number make 24-word seeds safer?
Well, guessing 24 words is harder, but a supercomputer would find a 12-word or 24-word seed equally out of reach.
Whether trillions or quintillions of years, it's a time frame beyond comprehension. 🧠
