I’ve honestly been afraid to bike in DC for years now. This week I hopped on the capitol bike-share for the first time since 2017&felt so safe with those protected bike lanes in my neighborhood. In my plans of becoming a car-less individual, these bike lanes are a game changer.

I get sad around school lottery season because no family should have to feel the need to apply to a school for their kids. They should have access to great schools in their neighborhoods. We have been decreasing ed funding&more flashy lavish schools are becoming more appealing.

First full weekend living in Michigan Park/Brookland=we had both Zeke’s&Cool Coffee (multiple trips!), lunch at Taco City II, frozen margs at San Antonio, epic salmon and grits from Brookland’s Finest, take out from Masala Story, and a gazillion trips to Annie’s (Ace Hardware).

I was 23 when I had an abortion&it honestly saved my life. I don’t think I would be here if I didn’t have that abortion. My partner was abusive, he threatened me, caused harm unto me&he would have killed me (he literally hit his next GF w/ a car). My abortion protected&saved me.

Literally why I left DCPS mid year. They cared about the damn RCTs&tests, but didn’t care about the COVID tests that got me ill&my family ill. I ran out of sick days&my mental health took a beating. I was constantly told that my students weren’t improving on their RCTs or DIBELS.

Definitely a scary scene-I was walking to the metro (Potomac Ave is my station), and I realized I forgot my metro card&had to go home to get it, walked back over and was advised to leave because there was a shooting. A lot can happen in a matter of minutes.

HAPPENING NOW: Shooting at Potomac Avenue Metro Station 🚉 DC Police and Metro Transit Police say there are 3 victims. One adult male, unconscious and not breathing and two additional adult males, both conscious and breathing. 911 call came in around 9:21 am. On my way to scene!

My 1st apartment in DC was located in Forest Hills, and I loved it. I lived there for about 5 years&was incredibly connected to my community. I learned tonight of the passing of Sameera Daniels-one of my dearest neighbors in my building. To have known Sameera was a blessing (1).

@tomsherwood @kojoshow @wcp It’s frustrating how expensive it is to set up a SUCCESSFUL classroom. I have spent now about $500 on my classroom supplies, thankfully most was donated, but I shouldn’t have to ask for donations to set up a safe&appropriate learning environment.

Unpopular opinion: if you are running for an elected office, I don’t care if you have had 10+ years doing the work-I care about what type of work you did, was it successful? Were you able to strategize to successfully achieve a goal? Did you listen to all parties in the process?

I just don’t get how we are in 2023 and think that standardized testing will determine a school or students success or ability to thrive. We have to account for critical needs of our students&our schools. We have buildings falling apart that are not safe for anyone.

I sprained my ankle&broke a toe yesterday after running&tripping over after seeing a DC rat yesterday. If that ain’t a way to get an injury, I don’t know what is. However, man, my ankle is swollen&c’mon, DC rat population-can you just not?

Today marks year 3 of marriage. We went to a chapel in Warrenton, VA 3 years ago, eager to get married when there was a backlog of DC wedding licenses. We did it&had a speedy halogen light chapel ceremony, followed by a Wegman’s 6 pack run (for each of us) with cannoli dip.

Look, pay is personal. Wage theft is real. Politics can get nasty-but if you respect your people on board your campaign, show them that. This is unacceptable and frankly disturbing.

@MurielBowser I was hired to lead a team of my people to canvass and hang signs for your campaign. My people which consists of @HowardU students, DC Natives and residents, people who traveled from all over at my word that they would be paid by your campaign, $22/hr.

In the spirit of sharing the proudest accomplishments of 2022, I take leaving the classroom&finding a new role in education where I felt represented, heard&respected to be my top achievement. However, w/ that same notion, I hope in 2023 our ed system can improve to bring me back.
