many wondering if my dad has yet seen Stuart Little - he sadly died in 2015, but i can confirm he was a lovely man and amazing dad who loved the beach, the farm, the park and - of course - kissing mum
i thought about 10 people would see this, so FAQs
- OBVIOUSLY this list was made for children's eyes, my dad did not call my mum "mum" alone lmao
- yes baseball is played all over the world
- yes he was an electrical engineer
- i am in fact potty trained

yesterday i passed my viva and became Dr Martha O’Brien!!! first doctor in my family and I couldn’t have done it without them & everyone else who has so generously supported me❤️❤️ ymlaen!
after nearly 4 years, I have submitted my PhD thesis! ‘“Wee wenhonourGhosetrayn”: The Spectres of Welsh writing in English 1989-2019’. still got the viva to go before it’s done and dusted but feeling v happy and grateful to be here ❤️
saw a dead rat outside my house on my walk this morning and when I got back someone had laid a flower on him, if anyone's wondering how the people of cathays are doing
today I found out I've got PhD funding for a research project in Modern Welsh Writing in English!! I'm gonna be the first doctor in my family!! AND my daily walk was this pretty!! some lockdown days are much better than others 🌻🌸🌳🌞
hi to everyone who followed me because of my dad's spreadsheet. i usually tweet about Wales and dead rats in my local area. i accept your soon-to-be unfollows graciously ❤️
not going to debrief 2020 but a lowlight was when my tweet went viral, got reposted to Facebook and everyone in the Facebook comments was just saying "WHO calls a baby Martha"
This is the most painful cancellation I have had yet. From someone I spent 10 years working with, many lovely family dinners and lots of laughs. Someone I thought was a friend.
rain can’t stop us! we’re on strike for fair pay and fighting to be recognised as vital members of staff that keep this uni afloat. end casualisation now!

what's the most deluded thing you've backed yourself on? last night i suggested I could run 20mph "if under pressure" before learning the world's fastest woman runs 21mph
came to my brother’s house spontaneously after the pub and discovered that he has had my undergrad graduation photos (that I’ve never seen) in his room for 2 years . he doesn’t know how he came into possession of them
it was nice to officially graduate from my Master's yesterday two years after finishing the degree, but the real achievement of the day was my mum putting on this monkey mask in the three second gap between photo booth pictures
it's so weird having grown up working class and seeing things like buying second hand, wearing clothes for years/until they wear out etc. being marketed as "sustainable fashion trends". like, it's good (and true) but i truly thought that was just what you do with clothes
when i was 17, i was doing sixth form 5 days a week, working weekends for Primark for £4.87 an hour, my dad died two weeks into me working there and my manager used to ask me mid-shift "why I looked so sad". idk susan you tell me xx
sometimes I think I'm sensible with money and then sometimes I go to the shops and come home with an geometrical yoga garden gnome because it's so ugly I felt sorry for it
as a kid i pointed out a house by roath park lake that i liked, and my Dad told me that in the 90s Pringles had run a competition called 'Pringles Dream House' where the winner would design their dream home, and that house had won. unreal fast-paced lying skill
When I was a childz my dad claimed he'd never heard of the Easter bunny because "he doesn't operate in Northern Ireland", as if it was Granada TV or Waitrose.
In that same spirit, I would like to know:
WHAT'S THE BEST, WORST, OR MOST MEMORABLE LIE YOUR PARENTS EVER TOLD YOU?
Very exciting to film for ITV Wales's new program Backstage today, chatting about Welsh arts, nawr & our upcoming summer festival! Look out for the episode in a few weeks! 🥳
though i always miss my dad, it's not especially on days like father's day, but mostly when I randomly see things like "Microsoft SwiftKey" and picture him sat with his big fingers tracing his way around his phone keyboard, wishing I could take the piss out of him again
At 22 I have,
•A podcast with over 200,000 downloads
•A social media following of over 13,000
•A net worth of over $75,000
•A group of friends all over the world
This is just the beginning🚀
i am in love with my new niece but can't believe my sister now won't have the time to have 30 minute text conversations about what sandwich filling I should have for lunch
last night i put a hot water bottle in the fridge for a few hours then took it to bed and had a blissful heatwave night's sleep - i am tweeting this to both help you and to showcase myself as 2020's greatest innovator*
*if anyone has done this before me i don't want to hear it
'Welsh work often holds a marginalised position within the UK publishing scene'
In turbulent times, Martha O’Brien looks at the rise of Welsh publications and the impact this has on feelings of cultural identity

my boyfriend James is currently working on a short film with BBC Wales & Ffilm Cymru and is looking for a house to shoot in - if you know of anywhere suitable give me a shout!! 🌟
my fave part of 2023 so far has been finally turning demos I’ve had for years into proper songs thanks to a nudge from my far more talented brother, Kieran 😎 who knows, maybe we’ll even share stuff soon(ish)
nawr is asking for submissions from Black creatives in order to lend the platform we have to their voices - please share and encourage other grassroots media to do the same.
i think "kier starmer is a wet wipe" is harsh to wet wipes, which can be helpful. he's more like the wipe at the top of the packet that's been left out and is now dry and useless

accidentally dried a load of my clothes without the heating on last week so now they smell of damp and every morning I'm spraying Febreze Fabric Refresher on myself like it's Marc Jacobs

I have had the busiest 2 months ever with uni conferences + other PhD stuff, barely been in Cardiff. I feel like that Lady Gaga "no sleep, club, another club" clip except the "clubs" are like, Tregynon, Lampeter, Llantwit Major
not disappointed but v confused to realise 'I Loves the Diff' has blocked me on here?? i have never mentioned them?? they once actually nicked my photo of that cathays chicken?? did they just pick up on my negative vibes??
