Ok ok, so hear me out.
Adoption is a child rights issue not a parent rights issue. Any narrative that centres parenting over vulnerable children is oppression. Make a note of that one so you, too, don’t end up looking like a fool one day.

And worn down by absurdity. They should be at home in bed and everyone knows it. The protester is making that point in a very sophisticated way. They are in a pantomime and he lifted the curtain by entering the stage-or something. Impressive.
@PepePierce
The idea that family separation is good for children is one of colonialism’s greatest achievements—
Thee majority of conservative justices deciding this are themselves adoptive patents and this isn’t even considered a vested interest.
@jacobkornbluh
I can’t get over how cruel, sadistic and terrifying it is to leave children maimed from bombfire without anaesthetic. I will never look at this man without thinking of that.

Re: kid care.
The non-covidy carer (Cummings’ mum or dad?) should have been the one to make the journey.
This isn’t complicated.
He risked all those on the way, the community in Durham, and both parents-instead of no one on the way, no one in Durham, and one parent.
Shocking.

My dad was a priest and it was only when he passed that I found out the funeral directors called him when they did funerals for people with no friends or family because he’d take it seriously, make it special. The funeral director cried and told us when collecting his body.
@PoetTPetty
I visited when I was 8 in 1984. Etched in me. Esp seeing adults whom I respected and who were so wise and caring become tense and fearful of violence and the indignity of public humiliation; the quiet joy of a teenager travelling in a car with us bc they might not be harassed.
@JoshuaPHilll
I genuinely think he has no idea of the political milieu he’s navigating. There’s a lot of sophisticated analysis & he’s engaging with it like an old man hindered by the darkness of fascism. A somber time for the USA.
He should read this thread 👇🏻
Watching everything that’s happening as a Gen Z-Millennial cusp (born in ‘96), I see what’s happening to youth on college campuses as, on top of everything else, the logical end point of decades of neglect of and vitriol towards children and young adults. 🧵🪡
@PepePierce
Perhaps in part because white progressives are actually quite invested in the outcome of this case:
That whiter, richer families are better; and, that moving infants and children from poor, brown families to rich, white families is ethical.
This is white culture.
@katiedimartin
Best thing I learned was to replace the comma with a dash; it disrupts meaning with *punctuation* and messes with the whole semiotic system. Why do with words what you can with a dash?

It was life-changing when my partner was diagnosed with severe pre-verbal separation trauma caused by being separated from his mother just moments after birth. He wondered around the house mumbling “pre-verbal” and “severe separation trauma” for weeks. Lotta things made sense.
@moorehn
The 4th Geneva Convention, which the USA is a signatory to, has “universal jurisdiction” which means anyone who has committed war crimes can be tried in any signatory county for the rest of their life. Getting prosecutors to press charges is the next step.

's talk about the Ukrainian military and especially how they have rooted out corruption and become a modern force over the last decade, while RU forces are riddled with it. UK politics (and ports) riddled with it, too. Not good.
@JalalAK_jojo
@vivafalastin
It’s a serious breach of the Geneva Conventions and they can therefore be tried in any country in the world until the defendant has passed.
@brihindthescene
Let’s talk about how adoption normalises isolating (practically and legally-both human rights abuses) vulnerable infants and children from everyone who knows them and then telling them they are “lucky”. Lotta abuse flags 🚩🚩🚩
Oh holy shitters. Those involved are so massively morally compromised. The peak journalism body covering up war crimes committed against journalists…a disgraceful low.
@fortesalatifi
(And, yes, this was said to be “for the best” because he was being adopted from a single woman into a nuclear family. No one told him that, as with all infants, separation from a gestational parent would cause a secret, inescapable trauma.)
@akela_lacy
I heard we should start using the words “arms embargo” because “ceasefire” has become the new nothing word, like “two-state solution” is a nothing phrase.
@TelePolitics
You’d think they’d take the hint, but they’re obsessed with whining.
If someone called me racist, sexist etc, I’d wonder why. But they seem to think they’re entitled to be these things without being called out. It’s all ‘poor me wahhhh’.
They lack critical thinking skills.
@ShaiDavidai
Reading your tweets, you seem a big driver behind anti-Palestinian racism & incitement to violence on campus.
Seeing you call students who oppose war crimes pro-Hamas & terrorist to dehumanise them has been awful.
To oppose genocide is decency; to support genocide is evil.

Refugee camp? Internment camp? Ghetto?
I agree that open-air prison isn’t the best word as it implies those inside it’s walls and barbed wire have committed a crime.

To equate Palestinian rights with Holocaust denialism is deeply racist, inaccurate, and disturbing.
Selina needs to lay off the propaganda and read a book.
@DamonLinker
Is the sub-culture actually “people who have personally experienced adoption” by any chance? Perhaps they don’t enjoy the same basic rights as you and are saying the next generation of vulnerable infants and children should have those rights respected? Just by any chance…?
@ShaiDavidai
Your own quote tweet is an example of what you’re pretending to call out.
All I’ve seen from your discourse on this is: incitement to violence; duhumanisation; anti-Palestinian racism; and, a clear lack of ethics and morals at both a personal and geopolitical level.
Not good.
I live with someone who suffers trauma from a "good" adoption.
I'm not sure progressives know how important their solidarity + belief is in managing that trauma.
Whatabouts + disbelief are as traumatic for adoptees for other trauma victims.
Belief + solidarity matters.
Maybe unpopular opinion: Many good people won’t support the rights and voices of adopted leaders, elders and emerging leaders for fear of hurting the feelings of adoptive parents.
It’s 2022, let’s acknowledge that a child’s rights are more important than an adult’s feelings ✌🏻

I did 🙋🏻♀️
But I wasn’t remotely impressed by the racist regime.
I was impressed by the markets of Nablus and the ice cream in Ramallah, the beauty and dignity of the Palestinian people—their love of spices, their tea and coffee rituals, their famous multi-religious culture 🇵🇸🫶🏻

I bought most of my Xmas presents (and more) at Indigo in 2022. Was a paid up member. Haven’t spent a cent there since I learned owner is a Zionist. I returned two items and have two mugs that I can hardly bring myself to use because they have the logo on the bottom.
Being an ally means listening and believing.
If you only believed there was an issue with infants in “supply chains” when you saw it in that document but you didn’t believe it when adopted people told you…
…well, that needs to change.
Believe adopted people.
@emrazz
I think the most powerful thing non-adopt people can do right now is:
- start believing adopted people
- remind your friends to believe adopted people
- remind your friends who are adopters and hopeful adopters that they aren’t the experts, adoptees are
Change who you believe.
@kenklippenstein
If they wanted peacekeepers, they should have sent them when Israel started the genocide and stopped that. But, no, just like Zionists they want to be there but they don’t want Palestinians there. It’s a colonial sickness.
Can we normalize being polite to unexpected relatives? All of us should be aware our parents/grandparents/uncles/aunts/siblings/cousins may have secrets—be prepared to be a friend+not an arse who traumatizes isolated people at their most vulnerable. Denormalize this; it’s not ok.
I'm gutted. Blocked by 1/2 brother. Didn't even have the common courtesy to acknowledge my attempt at contact. Well guess what? Same blood flows through our veins and there's not a damn thing you can do to change that.
Adoptees have been saying non-stop for months if not years they’re getting ready for another baby scoop era and no one listened to us. And now “domestic supply of infants” is in a draft and people still won’t listen to us.

Oh, Palestinians are very focussed on education and leaning. Watch some of the videos where Gaza kids get their high school results — they’re so sweet. I despair at all racist tropes; it says something about your education, I’m afraid.
@cmclymer
From what I’ve seen in the adoptee community, the lack of understanding from progressive/liberals about adoption trauma and human rights is actually incredibly hurtful. Having “takes” that aren’t based on listening to people with lived experience is hurtful.

The fact that SCOTUS is packed up with adoptive parents wasn’t a 🚩 ?Everyone listening to adopted and trafficked people knew this was coming.
Let’s not forget that there are 3 adopters on the Supreme Court and ACB is making money from anti abortion organizations. This is all public information and a complete conflict of interest. They are looking out for themselve$ not anybody else.

Read a tweet from an adopted person who is making an anon account because they need to say things they can’t say to people who know them…so sad. Think about that when you say “my adopted friend/relative says xyz”

The UK courts just found that anti-Zionism is a protected opinion like any other form of anti-racism. I wonder what the Supreme Court would say if pressed to make a decision.
@LTCPeterLerner
I’m struggling to understand the relevance of what you’re saying. Would it be a problem if a civilian ambulance treated an IDF soldier?
Red cross/crescent can treat the wounded but cannot participate in hostilities. This is key feature of the 1st Geneva Convention.
@Mashouf
Also today and also after 38 years of imprisonment, the Palestinian writer Walid Dakka died in an Israeli prison.
The fascist Minister, Ben-Gvir, said he wished Dukka had been executed by the Israeli military instead of dying of cancer.
Remember Palestinian hostages.
denormalise adoption as a goal. it’s cruel and unusual to take a child from its mother so you (richer, whiter, more heteronormative) can have a ‘parental experience.’
forget that shit. it’s ok to not be a parent. you’re not saving anyone.
