I’m calling on @VirginActiveUK to seriously review their security. And, crucially, I’ve requested Santander removes their the PIN-in-app feature (other banks - take note) as this could have prevented what happened. I don’t see why it should be there by default - make it optional

Lock that sim! - Settings - Mobile data - Sim PIN If a fraudster gets hold of your phone, they’ll hit a security wall. It’ll prevent them receiving any one-time passcodes sent by your bank to confirm your ‘identity’. #FraudPrevention

Also during the call, I was told that my new bank card - which they said they’d send when I reported the theft - was only dispatched the day before, meaning I’ve been without a bank card or access to my account for an extra WEEK They’ve acted like the financial Fawlty Towers 🙃

I’ve been contacted by so many people who have experienced the same thing - and not only with Santander - whereby their bank refuses to reimburse their fraud case purely due to the level of sophistication surrounding the use of their PIN THESEE PEOPLE NEED SUPPORT NOT PUNISHMENT

I’ve had people I’ve never met offering money, gift cards, a new rucksack, a new bike lock…it’s been incredible. One even set up a GoFundMe page, which I’ve told them to remove (I obviously declined all offers of cash but blown away by the kindness, esp in these tough times!)

I’m still receiving DMs asking about the gym theft and fraud that happened towards the end of August. Virgin Active presented the Met police with a file which it claims contained the requested CCTV footage inside the gym…but the file was “corrupted”😐 In summary, case closed😩

I hope our noise sets a precedent so people in similar circumstances without a platform are treated fairly and with the respect they deserve and need. Santander has agreed to reopen other cases where they’ve refused to reimburse someone’s money (if that’s you, do contact them).
