And there it is. Well played internet, well played. The fundraising goal has been achieved, so no small "40/40" tattoo for me. Going to keep the fundraiser up for a week or so just in case anyone wants to donate. Blown away by the support, love you all.
This Freddie Freeman thing is getting weird. Either he already has a deal he likes in hand or his agent really underestimated how quickly his market was willing to move on to other options.
If the Braves want a huge public relations win this week, announcing a contract extension for Freddie Freeman at the parade festivities would be nearly impossible to top.
I am sad that Freddie is sad and wish he was still with the Braves.
I also think that at any point, he could have stepped in and made those negotiations better. Worst part is that it seems like he knows it and that stinks. One of those mistakes that haunts one for a while.
The Braves just won a bullpen game in which they did not throw Luke Jackson or Jacob and had to scratch Ynoa at the last minute and were up against one of the better pitchers in the National League this year.
And it wasn't close.
Splits from September:
Mookie Betts: 42 PA, 1 HR, 4 R, 5 RBI, 3 SB, .226/.429/.335, 133 wRC+
Ronald Acuna Jr.: 57 PA, 7 HR, 13 R, 14 RBI, 4 SB, .316/.391/.702, 187 wRC+
Ronnie has been better almost across the board and it hasn't been close.
This is not hyperbole...
@BrandonGaudin
is the best thing to happen to the Braves broadcast in a long, long time. Has made his partners in the booth better, actually loves baseball and it shows, and his calls are on point. Also, great sense of humor. A+++
The national media's coverage of this World Series has been embarrassing. I get that they have no clue how to cover baseball games that don't include the LA, Boston, or NY markets, but you would guess the Braves lost last night based on their coverage today.
Presumably this means that the Freddie Freeman era in Atlanta is over. I hope he crushes it wherever he ends up and, since someone is going to ask, he absolutely a Braves Hall of Famer. Thanks for everything, FF
MLB absolutely needs to improve diversity in its staff at all levels.
Also, Angel Hernandez is objectively terrible at his job and is an awful face for this discussion.
Umpire Angel Hernandez alleged in a legal filing that MLB manipulated its internal umpiring metrics to disadvantage minorities, thereby excluding them from becoming crew chiefs.
@dankaplan
with more:
For real, though....sit Ronnie tomorrow. He just savaged the Cubs in basically a must win game for them. Wrap him in bubble wrap if you have to.....just keep him out of the batter's box.
The Braves lost Austin Riley, Ender Inciarte, Brian McCann, Dansby Swanson, and Nick Markakis have still have a 14-7 record in the month of August and are riding a six game winning streak.
Freddie Freeman owns and I will never forget what he did for the Braves when he was with them. Ever.
I also hope the Braves hang 10 runs on the Dodgers each game and he goes 0 for the series.
That pretty much sums up my thoughts.
A big thank you to the Atlanta Braves organization for allowing me to be a part of your family. Last year was an incredible ride with a perfect ending. I will never forget it. Braves Country, thank you for all the love and support. See you soon ⚾️
There is a lot more work to do to be sure...but I want to take a moment and say that I am thrilled that another generation of Braves fans gets to see a run like this. What the Braves did in the 90's/00's built a generation of baseball fans. Savor every moment of this.
That should be it for Spencer Strider and he may have just put together the best regular season start in Atlanta history.
8 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, and 16 strikeouts.
Just insane.
Whatever happens in this division race, I hope fans really appreciate just how remarkable the Braves' run this season has been. They are already at 97 wins with a slow start, Ronnie and Ozzie dealing with injuries, and Olson underperforming. That is objectively insane.
Just for the record, I don't want to hear from any of you that the Braves/Liberty Media are cheap/don't care/won't win again. We can differ on the details, but there is no question that they are going for it.
I have covered Soroka longer and closer that almost anybody, so I will say this: I have never wanted a guy to succeed more than him, never doubted that he had what it took to make it back, and I've missed him. That said, that this is even a possibility should blow our minds.
Not going to discount the rough starts from Fried and Strider because they were obviously bad, but it was probably always going to hard to win any postseason series with just three hitters doing anything.
If I am Snit, after the inevitable 15 minute delay that Alvarado causes to have the mound rebuilt, I have the umpires check in his shoes for foreign substances right there on the mound after he throws his first pitch.
Braves still lead the series 2-1 and the Dodgers just used nine pitchers. Absolutely brutal loss, but the Braves have hung a pair of those on the Dodgers already in this series. It was never going to be easy.
Vaughn Grissom has hit grand slams in back to back innings in this Rome game.
No, that is not a typo. In the eighth, he hit a grand slam...and then in the ninth....he did it again.
If you want to know where my thoughts are regarding Spencer Strider's Cy Young chances are at the moment, here is my thinking:
He is the only pitcher in the league that can go six inning and strike out nine guys and folks go "oh, thought he would have gotten more"
The Braves are now 12-4 and have the second best record in the entire league. They lead the National League in runs scored and are on a six game win streak.
This pleases me.
We are an hour away from Game One of the World Series...the Braves' 1st appearance in the Fall Classic since 1999. I'll repeat some advice I've given elsewhere: savor and enjoy it. Win or lose, you'll be talking about this for decades...so cherish this experience. This is a gift.
My 10 year old daughter came downstairs once she heard that the Braves had won and asked how Flowers did. Told her that he was a defensive replacement so he didn't get to hit and I didn't want to confuse her with the nuisances of catching. She then asked, "How was his framing?"
I am blown away. AJ Smith-Shawver was newish to pitching and a senior in high school in 2021.
He started this season in high-A Rome.
Now he is a big leaguer....unbelievable.
y'all pulling the trigger on this trade?
#Braves
facebook says "HELL NO"
lol lots of emotional attachments and not enough number attachments over there.
His agent literally gave AA one hour to respond to an ultimatum and got the Braves response. What was AA supposed to do, call Freddie and say "did you really mean it?" or risk a trade leaking by telling him beforehand and potentially getting the deal torpedoed?
Fred Freeman’s father, who was with his son at the time of the Matt Olson trade ending his Atlanta tenure: ‘He was in shock. He said, 'I can’t believe it. Why didn’t they tell me? How did this happen? Out of nowhere, they didn’t tell me they were moving on. How does that happen?'
Cristian Pache's second hit in Triple-A in his debut is an RBI single. Both Pache and Waters have multi-hit games in their Triple-A debuts. This pleases me.
Good morning.
The Braves will face the Houston Astros in Houston for Game Six with another chance to close out a World Series victory.
Win or lose, we will all remember this series for decades to come and that makes me smile.
Altuve was out.
If MLB wants to get serious about increasing the pace of play, they need to have a mandatory training session in the minors where they share Luis Garcia's wind-up and they say, "Don't do this"
Good morning.
Acuna made a mistake baserunning that ultimately didn't lose the game. He was also a main reason Atlanta had a chance late.
Snit throwing him under the bus for it when this was on the pitching while excusing mistakes in other games by other players is telling.
Prediction: The
@Phillies
will win the NL East. If they don’t, I’ll run the Rocky Steps in a Joe Girardi jersey. I expect an MVP year from
@bryceharper3
, and
@TheCUTCH22
is back. Here are my thoughts on the best overall division in
@MLB
.
@MLBNetwork
If you are wanting a silver lining from this series, Ronald Acuna Jr. is looking much better at the plate. RBI double from him gets the Braves on the board.
Alright, everyone...I have some news. Today I accepted a position as a full-time baseball staff writer for Fansided which means that, on the writing side, I will be covering the entire league and will be leaving the Braves-specific grind behind.
It is May 3rd and the Braves have the second most wins in the league and the largest division lead in all of baseball.
Do those things matter much this early? Nope, but you sure do love to see it regardless.
Can't say I am surprised. An umpire literally applied the rules of the game incorrectly to give the Mets a win the other day, admitted that he was wrong, and nothing was done. All a part of the "human element" that is so sacred I suppose.
Both Cristian Pache and Travis d'Arnaud are both not in Gwinnett's lineup tonight and I have seen the entire range of takes from "this is actual nothing and the Braves will never trade anyone" to "MIKE TROUT SZN CONFIRMED"
Never change, Twitterverse.
Just putting this out there into the void...there is no way Ozuna should be DHing every day and batting 5th in this lineup. I know that it isn't likely to happen, but something really needs to change there.
I know the Dodgers lineup is insane and they are rightly being projected to win a bunch of games, but I don't think there is enough focus on the fact that their rotation as a whole doesn't inspire the most confidence.
Good morning.
The Braves had a tough loss last night but still earned a road split in Houston against a very good Astros team.
Good vibes only.
Kent Hrbek should have been ejected.
