Look at this photo memory from 2015 — Willow Creek’s anniversary at the United Center, Chicago. I’m absolutely stunned at this now. Humans are not made to be put on a stage and adored. (I was there and participated, so I’m to blame for this celebrity culture, too.)

People do not need to justify their decision to leave. People have agency and freedom to switch churches or to leave a church and take time to heal. This is damaging and weaponizing language. Church scandals should not be equated with seeking to “justify” leaving a church.

Two more thoughts this morning. (1/2) Churches that push NDAs in exchange for a severance package are in thick with a toxic culture. Tov churches tell the truth. Tov churches do not use NDAs to prevent the truth from being told.
