periodic reminder that if you send a student to health services and they admit they have been considering suicide, they will be arrested on site (Canada/America). i have been handcuffed three times and taken to the hospital, where i am guarded by 2 officers. not care work. 1/

7/ in fatal ER cases of COVID in Korea, USA and France, schizophrenics were over-represented EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. (5x higher in Korea, 3x higher in France, 2x higher in America) that's not a biology problem, that's a TREATMENT problem. that's people choosing who gets to live.

6/ among homeless populations and prison populations. this plays back to the carceral pipeline conversation i was on about yesterday. when schizophrenics go to the hospital, they are not believed. they are arrested and given tertiary care, and start homeless/prison cycling.

8/ there is no compelling reason other than eugenics as to why schizophrenia is the SECOND highest fatality indicator after a core biological factor (age). an article said my "insight is compromised" and that's why this happens -- we don't know to get treated. that's bullshit.

5/ multiple comorbidities plays into it. reduced immunity from antipsychotics plays into it. accessing medical care keeps coming up. but this is insidiously blamed on the *patient* - we're not "seeking" care. i find that hard to believe. consider that antipsychs are common

4/ them hooked up with a SW or an ACT. get them hooked up with a subcomm that focuses on mutual aid and mental health. get them a parental figure or trusted ally to go on "weekend watch". our antisuicide policies are carceral. if you don't know that, you're not paying attention.

i make half of minimum wage, $1200 a month. i dont take courses. i dont use campus. i teach your undergrads 2/2s, while tenured fac teach less. provosts don't teach at all. grad wages are being stolen for "tuition" while i work for nothing. university is a hedge fund.

2/ it's also worth keeping in mind that when overwhelm happens, allies might have panic symptoms: hyperfocus, aloofness, not responding or over-responding, trouble staying in task. that's all okay. don't pathologize it. acknowledge its presence and cultivate comfort. how?

8/ ACCESSIBILITY: this is a robust server that hybridizes async/sync in ways that Zoom, MS Teams, WebEX etc do not do well. discord equalizes async/sync, a huge problem with aforementioned platforms is the rhetorical prefacing of synchronous content - we know this is problematic
