Coalition Builder. Environmental Lawyer. Mom x 3. LA City Councilwoman. This my personal account. For my official city account, please follow

No one in that room should keep their job because they have forfeited the trust of the people they were supposed to represent. I renounce the endorsements of Councilmembers Martinez and de León. Their words do not reflect my values.
I am so proud of the campaign we ran. Now, thanks to your support, we are leading by a significant and growing margin. I’m optimistic that I’ll have the privilege of serving as the next Los Angeles City Councilmember representing District 5.
I’m supporting Measure HLA because it will help make our streets safer. I hope you’ll join me, the LAUSD School Board, the LA Times, and thousands of parents across Los Angeles in voting YES on HLA.
The anti-Semitism perpetrated against communities across Los Angeles over the last half decade – and this weekend, in particular – is horrifying, wholly unacceptable, and unsurprising.
CD5 Primary candidates
@jimmybiblarz
and
@scottforla
got to know the entire field through dozens of forums and events. I'm grateful to have earned their support as we head to Nov. Both ran authentic, ideas-based campaigns, and I look forward to working with them!
Thank you to the LA County Bicycle Coalition and the UCLA Bike Coalition for taking me on a ride through parts of Westwood yesterday to highlight the lack of safe bike infrastructure on our streets. 1/2
Most women don't even realize they're pregnant at six weeks. Which is, of course, the point of the TX law.
If it wasn't abundantly clear before, it should be now: We need more pro-choice women in elective office everywhere. When we're not at the table, we lose in countless ways
I'm proud to have the endorsement of Assemblymember Isaac Bryan, who exemplifies what it means to be a champion for change and a tireless advocate for his constituents everyday.
Senator Maria Elana Durazo is a champion for working people and families – and one of the most effective elected officials in Sacramento. Senator Durazo joined UNITE HERE Local 11 in officially endorsing my campaign this morning. I’m deeply grateful!
@MariaEDurazo
@UNITEHERE11
Excellent constituent services for residents and businesses are integral to the job of a Councilmember.
I'm committed to proactive community building and creating new programs and partnerships with the communities of CD 5.
Please join me on Sunday! To accommodate those who plan to also attend Mayor-Elect Karen Bass’ historic swearing-in on Sunday at City Hall, we’re moving the start time of my swearing-in up an hour to begin promptly at 10:00 AM. Please plan to arrive early.
Happy + proud to support Streets for All's LA 25x25. It calls for expanding Slow Streets, Al Fresco outdoor dining, plazas, green space, bus shelters, tree planting, pedestrian space, and bus and bike lanes. All things that will make LA safer, greener + more vibrant.
Announcing LA 25x25: a challenge to LA's leaders to build a more accessible, safer, healthier and more productive city by giving 25% of street space back to people by 2025.
So far, 50% of major candidates running in 2022 have already signed on.

I had a great time yesterday walking precincts with Jimmy Biblarz. We're down to only four days left to reach CD 5 voters. Join us as we close out the campaign season strong. Email patty

🚨 LA County Board of Supervisors just voted UNANIMOUSLY to start the process to phase out existing + new oil wells in LA County. This is a big deal, but it's just the start of a long process that must include labor partners to ensure a just transition. Now it's City of LA's turn
Saw this civic art/plaque at a busy intersection in my neighborhood, and my first thought was, "Cool! Civic Art!" Which was quickly replaced by deep frustration / anger that LA doesn't do more to make intersections + streets safer for pedestrians + people on bikes + scooters. 1/
This endorsement means a lot. Thank you
@LATimesopinion
for your faith in me and for highlighting my “track record of forming coalitions, listening to people, and negotiating complicated issues.” Read the full LA Times endorsement here:
Every Angeleno deserves clean air to breathe, safe water to drink, a place to live, safe and efficient transit systems, and a park within walking distance.
I have the experience and, more importantly, the results needed to lead the fight for a more sustainable LA at City Hall.
I’m honored to be the Democratic Party’s choice to represent Council District 5 and to have many local grassroots Democratic leaders coming to support me for a GOTV rally and canvass this Saturday. I hope you can join us!
Another successful "Women for Katy" event is in the books, this time at Cathy and Len Unger's home in Westwood!
I shared my vision for District 5 and the City beyond, the importance of electing more champions for women and girls, and the critical issues impacting all of us.
🚚🚛Diesel trucks are a big contributor to LA's air pollution, responsible for 70% of smog-causing pollution + 80% of carcinogenic diesel soot. Most of this pollution ends up in low-income communities of color, causing disproportionately high asthma + cancer rates. 1/
I am proud to stand with healthcare workers who deserve to be paid enough to live and given enough time to sleep and to take care of themselves so they can better care for all of us. CIR resident physicians, who are at the center of patient care need fair contracts now.
🌎 Ending our reliance on fossil fuels today is essential to ensure a livable planet tomorrow. I'm honored to join the Jane Fonda Climate PAC corps of endorsed candidates committed to finding science-based strategies to lead on climate action!
I'm running to be the first woman to represent CD 5 in 57 years — and I'm incredibly proud to have the support of Planned Parenthood, the National and CA Women's Political Caucus, Emily's List, and many other groups fighting for women to have a seat at the table!
It’s an honor to serve as the next Councilwoman for the Fifth Council District, a district that I’ve called home for much of my life. You are my neighbors, my friends, and my family and I hope to make you proud.
Thrilled to earn the endorsement of the Los Angeles County Young Democrats! LACYD works hard to elect problem solvers who are committed to making real progress in LA. Looking forward to partnering with them to win in November and then get big things done at City Hall.
I'm proud to be
@LosAngelesFwd
's choice for CD 5. We share a commitment to public policy that ensures all people can live in dignity, have access to good housing, transportation, jobs, schools, and green space, and reach their fullest potential.
A proposed 131-room, 7-story hotel on Robertson south of Pico is coming to the City Planning Commission for a vote this Thursday. The site currently houses several one- and two-story small businesses and a dozen rent controlled units. 1/
Roz Wyman was a true force of nature who blazed trails at City Hall and across the State. The youngest person ever elected to the LA City Council at 22 in 1953, I got to know Roz in her later years as an LA County Arts Commissioner... 1/2
Proud to be the Democratic Party's choice in this race. TY to all the Democratic and community leaders who came out this weekend in support. We knocked on a lot of doors and met a lot of voters who agree it's time for experienced, ethical leadership. Two days left to vote!
Thanks to everyone who came out for a great event at Alandele Circle hosted by
@scottforla
,
@park_brea
, and their President, Bob Shore. We're a month away from ballots being mailed! If you want to get involved, check out !
LA should be one of the great biking cities of the world, and I'm looking forward to partnering with cyclists, residents, commuters, and LADOT to make it happen in CD 5! 2/2
This endorsement means so much because
@AdamSchiff
is an exemplar of what it looks like to stand firm against lawlessness and be resolute in search of the truth. Together, we’ll work to make our communities safe and give regular people a fair chance.
Happy
#LaborDay
! Today we celebrate workers coming together to organize for better wages, conditions, and lives. LA is more livable for all Angelenos when labor is at the table.
I'm honored to be the overwhelming choice in CD 5 for working men and women across LA, including:
We had a great time this morning at our Volunteer Kickoff at Cheviot Hills Rec Center, followed by door-knocking across the district.
The best way to reach voters is through face-to-face (or over-the-phone) conversations. Sign up to join us next time at !
I stand with UTLA and their decision to suspend their support of Kahllid Al-Alim. Anti-semitism has no place in our classrooms, and it’s clear Mr. Al-Alim has no business serving on our School Board. I urge UTLA membership to fully rescind their endorsement as quickly as possible
After the polls close tomorrow night, we’ll be gathering at All Season Brewing at 8:30. The beer’s on us, and I’d be grateful for the opportunity to thank you in person for your support over these last 26 months.
Today's the day! Voting is our collective super power. Please choose to wield it. Find a vote center to vote in person here:
or a drop box here to drop off your vote by mail ballot here: .
Either way, do it by 8 pm.
🚨🚨 I'm honored to have earned United Steelworkers Local 675's endorsement, and I look forward to collaborating with them to create economic opportunity and help working families — and our City — thrive.
At this crucial time in our nation's history we need experienced leaders in seats of power to ensure the rights of all women and girls in our city are protected no matter what happens at the Supreme Court. Thank you for your faith in me when the stakes couldn't be higher.
I absolutely refuse to accept that my daughter will grow up with fewer rights than her grandmother. The draft opinion is Exhibit A, B, and C for why elections -- and electing pro-choice warriors -- matter.
This leaked opinion is dangerous but we have been preparing for every possible outcome in this case — and are built for this fight! Our health centers remain open and make no mistake, we’re fighting like hell.
Everyone in LA County needs access to clean, reliable water during this crisis.
@LACountyBOS
just unanimously voted to ensure all residents & essential businesses have water access -- regardless of ability to pay. Thank you
@LAANE
for the quick research to help make this happen.
I'm thrilled to have the endorsement of key community leaders who serve on neighborhood councils, build parks for a greener future, organize for social equity, and lead the movement for safer streets!
The next City Councilperson will have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to shut down the Rancho Park Drill Site permanently. As an environmental attorney with deep experience in land use matters, I'll make sure this happens.
I voted. Have you?
With only one week left, we need all the help we can get to reach CD 5 voters. PLEASE reach out to at least five friends in the district today to help spread the word!
🌎🚚🚛Huge day today for clean air, public health, and environmental justice in Los Angeles: South Coast AQMD Bd. just adopted the region's first Indirect Source Rule (regulating the pollution impacts from diesel trucks coming to/from warehouses in Metro LA)!
I'm honored to have earned the support of
@SEIU721
– SoCal's largest public employee union that has long been a driver of progress for our communities.
We rise, we fight, and we win together!
Controller Betty Yee has been a game changer for California and a lifelong champion for equity and transparency. I'm honored to be her choice for City Council in CD 5!
🛢️Active oil wells are all over LA. 580,000 Angelenos live within a 1/4 mile of an active well, and proximity to wells causes significant health impacts to surrounding communities in the form of high rates of childhood asthma, lung disease, and premature death, among others. 1/
I’m honored to be endorsed by
@MRodCD7
because she's a staunch fighter for people who need us most and a great example of someone who turns the concept of a more just LA into real solutions that work. I look forward to working together to create pathways to opportunity for all!
Putting aside neighborhood concerns about height + massing, the permanent elimination of rent stabilized units without provision for replacement is unacceptable.

Thank you,
@momsinoffice
, for your endorsement! At a time when so many moms are out of work, and the economic fallout from Covid has fallen particularly hard on women more broadly, we need moms in office advocating and pushing for more opportunities for women in the workforce.
Moms in Office is proud to endorse Katy Young Yaroslavsky for LA City Council, District 5. Katy is an experienced policymaker and coalition builder, climate attorney, and a mom to three young children.
@KatyForLA

This is what good governance looks like: LA County Board of Supes just created the WHAM Committee to coordinate & leverage the $1.5 billion per year approved by voters via Measures W, H, A, and M-- including workforce development, education programs, and the projects themselves.
I am deeply disturbed by last night’s indictment alleging abuse of the public trust. This alleged behavior cannot be viewed in isolation; it is part of a larger pattern of corruption and yet another indication that our local politics is deeply broken.
Join me + some of my favorite people tonight at 7 for an LA-themed trivia night, complete with legitimately great prizes for the winners. It's also a campaign event. I'd love to see you there! It's free, but you need to RSVP at
I’m grateful and excited to have the endorsement of Assemblymember Laura Friedman. I look forward to partnering with her to make progress for all Angelenos.
❓ How do we ensure issues impacting women and girls are front and center at City Hall?
✋ Elect more women committed to making LA more just and equitable for all.
Big thanks to

The rise in anti-semitic hate crime in our community is horrifying & must stop. It fits within a sharp & broad rise in hate crimes against all minority groups both within the City of LA & nationally & it reminds us of the gaping space between where we are & where we need to be.🧵

Thank you so much,
@momsinoffice
,
@simonagrace
and Laine Siklos for hosting today's family-friendly campaign event! So great to discuss how we make our communities more family- and kid-friendly: safer intersections, more parks, protected bike lanes, and on and on.
When celebrities, including former presidents, spew hatred to their millions of followers, bigots seize the opportunity to take their hate into our streets and neighborhoods. Last weekend’s anti-Semitic acts weren’t the first and, sadly, won’t be the last.
LA working families have my back, and I have theirs! These frontline workers put themselves at risk every day, making it possible for us to put food on the table and access needed medicine in these challenging times. Proud to partner with
@UFCW770
in our fight for a better LA!
Lots happening in the 5th Council District on the oil drilling front. The City's Zoning Administrator issued a decision to allow the operator of the Pico Drill Site (Pico + Doheny) to keep drilling despite significant violations of their settlement agreement for 20 yrs. 1/
Thank you
@FundHer
for your endorsement! Looking forward to becoming the first woman to serve the residents of Council District 5 in nearly sixty years.
Fund Her recognizes the barriers that emerging women leaders face. That’s why we launched Build the Bench, a program to give proven women leaders running in down-ballot races in CA the support they need to win.
We’re delighted to endorse these four Build the Bench candidates!
🦋LA County's Natural History Museum launched a great online education resource for kids of all ages, including COVID19-geared activities for the backyard or on neighborhood walks, like counting/classifying butterflies and learning about other urban wildlife. 🐾🐿️🌎

The City's existing Rent Stabilization Ordinance that allows this to happen all over the city, a few rent controlled units lost here and a few lost there, is partly to blame for our affordable housing crisis. 3/
This Saturday, 10/2 at 10 am, I’ll be joining the Women’s March for Reproductive Rights in DTLA as a guest speaker, talking about the fight for women’s self-determination & the pernicious effects of gender inequity more broadly. Join me by signing up here:
I look forward to representing all the communities of Council District 5 and working with you to make our city better no matter who you supported in this election.
In its 171 year history, only 18 women have served on the Los Angeles City Council.

LA City Council voted yesterday on an anti-camping law making sleeping on the street illegal across large swaths of LA. The law focuses on where camping will be illegal, but lacks specificity as to how the City will offer unhoused Angelenos viable alternative housing options. 1/
I am so incredibly honored to have the endorsement of Senator Sydney Kamlager, who is a progressive champion with a proven track record of fighting for all Angelenos. I look forward to working with her to create a more sustainable and just LA.
🗳️📢Californians of good will!
Today is an excellent day to vote NO on the recall. Unless, of course, you want an anti-choice, anti-vax, climate change minimizer to become governor. In which case, keep ignoring the mail-in ballot sitting on your kitchen counter.

I'm thrilled to have the early support of former Culver City Mayor and Council Member
@M_Sahli_Wells
She's such an accomplished leader for environmental protection, housing, and transportation policy who I look forward to continuing working with to build a more sustainable LA!
🗳️☑️Today’s the day, folks! It’s your last chance to vote NO on the recall. Find your nearest drop box at or drop it off at a polling place or the post office. Thanks
@grassrootsdemhq
for making it so easy to canvass this morning!
I thank our community leaders, as well as our law enforcement and religious, secular, and educational institutions for their efforts to keep our communities safe and free of hate. We have a lot more work to do.
I’m INCREDIBLY honored to be supported by Congresswoman Karen Bass, a leader who boldly and effectively works for change.
I look forward to working with her to help Los Angeles recover and emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic stronger.

Climate Resilience Investments in Southern California: The Implementation Question
Each of us must be part of the solution. I'm fully committed to doing the hard, necessary work of fighting hate through education, deepening relationships, and building trust. I’ve contacted the Anti-Defamation League and the LA Human Relations Commission to take action together.
