imo except for katara everyone else forgave zuko too easily, i can understand why toph and aang did, toph barely knew him and aang is a ray of sunshine, but sokka?? being civil and forgiving zuko so easily?? out of character for me, he should be hating him right besides katara
they way zuko picks on the nicest characters to mock (aang and ty lee) bc his ass knows if he did this shit with anyone else they would beat his ass to death
one thing that pisses me off about the whole "katara's motherly to aang" is that aang doesn't need a mother!! we're never given any indication of aang lacking a "mother figure", you guys are just imposing a traditional nuclear family dynamic on a guy raised in a different culture
"aang letting go of katara would be a good arc for him" avatar yangchen tells aang that the avatar can never truly let go of their earthly attachments and reach true enlightenment like the air nomads strive for bc the avatar's duties are to the world, so no, it wouldn't be good
people don't understand that aang being a pacifist doesn't mean he doesn't feel anger or hatred but that he actively CHOOSES to not act on those feelings and that's extremely mature of him and shows he has a great control of himself
if you think two characters who only were civil with each other for five episodes were more "hinted at" than the two characters who were best friends and spent the whole series together then you may as well write "i'm fucking dumb" on your forehead and let the entire world know
@lycheehive
shipping aside this scene is so heartbreaking to watch, seeing aang so emotionally closed off and not even katara being able to reach him, seeing him abstaining from hugging his best friend in the whole world, it hurt so much, the episodes with appa gone are very very painful
i wouldnβt mind if people said katara is the mom friend, that she's motherly in a way to say that she's responsible and kind, but people say that as if she wasn't a kid, as if she couldn't involve herself with kids around her age, as if she's a grown woman, and that upsets me
"zuko isn't a colonizer bc the fire nation also made him suffer" he's literally the first son of the firelord, heir to the throne of the nation that's oppressing and colonizing the world, you can't be more colonizer than that without being the firelord himself i'm afraid
mai is actually a great female character, she isn't just some pretty thing meant to be zuko's romantic pair, she has unique personality, a backstory separated from zuko, her feelings are respected, she speaks her mind, she doesn't condone zuko's actions when he steps out of line-
honestly love how she waited until the war was over, we donβt talk enough about how katara (despite being a romantic person) is very duty oriented, she focus on what she has to do before doing what she wants to do and i really love that about her
will never get over the fact katara kisses aang in the very final scene of the show. rewatching it iβm always gagged like that girl had a mission coming on that balcony iβm crying
and she was the one to lean in all the way my girl knew what she wanted π
you can't seriously call zuko a prodigy when the examples of prodigies we have are AANG AND AZULA, heβs nothing next to these two, they wipe the floor with him be so serious
the thing about this episode is that it "tried" to have a nice message of moving on and victims of war left with nothing finding a place to call home but it was so badly made that it just feels frustrating to watch
and this scene is so sad, the way she says the avatar's duty is to the world while the air nomads dedicate themselves to detach from it is heartbreaking bc she's basically saying aang can't follow his culture completely and has to sacrifice part of it
one underrated scene that never fails to make me sob is aang talking to yangchen, like that's his first encounter with a fellow air nomad ever since he got out of the iceberg
the fact that some people can only see katara's care and affection for aang as motherly makes me wonder if these people were never loved by anyone other than their mother or if they're just delibarately interpreting it as motherly bc they don't like the ship
they're Like That without even being a couple yet, imagine when those two start dating, i swear if the new atla movie doesn't capture their needy, romantic asses i'll cry
@daughterof1ris
exactly!! sokka should have been the most skeptical and against zuko being part of the gaang, i have no idea wtf he was so okay with it while only katara was against it, it made no sense to me at all
it's important to let it clear that i'm not a zuko hater, i'm a zuko enjoyer a zuko critical and a zuko-is-a-princess believer, i enjoy watching his ass do stupid shit and criticizing him for it while simultaneously imagining him in a pretty pink dress to match his goth gf
there's nothing in aang's journey that indicates he needs a mother or someone to coddle him, much less that he even wants it. the same goes for katara, she doesn't need a kid, that's a 14yo, stop talking about her as if she's a grown woman
βPeople get over love. They can live without it, they can move on. Love can be lost and found again. But that won't happen for me. I won't survive you. Youβre everything Iβve ever wanted or needed, everything Iβve ever dreamed of. I live and breathe you. For you.β
"aang shouldn't be with katara bc he's actually 112--" shut up. shut the fuck up. shut your fucking asshole. shut your motherfucking shitting air hole. shut your bitchy ass motherfucking dirty stinky stupid useless food dumpster
its the way azula also seeks her father approval and love the same way zuko did, except she only managed to be useful to him and he never saw her as anything other than a tool to his objectives, and differently from zuko, she never had anyone to show her real love and family
Iβm obsessed with ozaiβs change of expression here when azula get in the picture, like he does NOT like that girl, I saw someone on tiktok say that ozai doesnβt love anyone but azula and Iβm still shocked, you think ozai loves azula?????
people hate bad mom characters meanwhile i be collecting them like dolls bc there's something so satisfying having a woman not liking/being a good mom be it bc of external factors or just her personality, it's such an interesting thing to explore, not all women should be mothers
the way this scene is all about zuko's moral conflict, katara's kindness and compassion and this moment being a turning point to zuko's journey but people try to turn it into something else fucking annoys the crap outta me
every time i think about this i break into tiny little pieces of grief and pain... aang is the most tragic character from the show and it pains me that many people don't get that
@katara_solos
canβt stop thinking about this like itβs all people talk about are the ships or aang not killing ozai at the end but like the air nomads are gone for good NONE OF HIS PEOPLE WERE THERE
People in the quotes acting dense on purpose (as always) when Zuko and Katara's bond and relationship (whether romantic or platonic) is one of the best written and developed relationships on the show. Every single one of their scenes together is meaningful and important
βlove is a form of energy and it swirls all around us. kyaβs love for you has not left this world. it is still inside of your heart, reborn in the form of new love.β
can't believe there are actually people who daydream about aang dying and zuko facing ozai as if he could in any shape or form win, i cannot emphasize enough how he didn't defeat a mentally unstable azula, he would have no chance defeating a fully powered and mentally stable ozai
these people don't understand katara doesn't owe the fire nation anything. they say she would help them etc but that's NOT her fucking problem, she lost almost everything to the fire nation, it's not her duty or moral obligation to help them, stop giving her that responsibility
i cannot believe there's people who genuinely think aang being 112yo bc he was FROZEN FOR A HUNDRED YEARS means he has the mind of a 112yo person, like, it's not possible to genuinely be this stupid, c'mon
i'm willing to be whatever you want me to beοΌ whether it's friendsοΌ loversοΌ or both. i just know that i want to be in your lifeοΌ exist in your orbitοΌ as long as you'll have me.
i personally find it amusing when people don't ship two characters and every time they interact with content of the two they feel the need to go all "omg i love their PLATONIC BROTHERLY NON-ROMANTIC FRIENDSHIP!!!" like why are you so threatened?π
my hypothesis that zks don't watch the show and only rewatch the same three scenes on youtube is constantly proven right with every comment they make about the show and the characters
I made the mistake of opening one post of theirsβ¦saying Katara is likely to be cheated onβ¦by Aang, who worships the ground Katara walks on? Sokka becoming a combustion bender or Toph regaining sight would be more likely then Aang cheating bffr
@ilyizzzy
i can kinda get toph forgiving him bc she didn't have any particular conflict with him and despite her being tough outside she's very kind and soft inside, but i do think she should have been more skeptical
man, i understand not liking that every female character becomes a mother, but there are some people who confuse things and treat "being a mother" in itself as something bad that "ruins" the character, like, zero ability to separate things
canβt take these people seriously at all bc they don't see katara as a character of her own but as an extension of themselves they can ship with the guy they think is hot, worse of all, they paint that with supposedly "feminist" arguments which is a disservice to actual feminism
you think after mai and zuko got back together (from their break up in the comics) that zuko went to aang asking for advice on how to be more romantic?
it's time we start praying that they won't nerf them, give them some spiritual or political adventure/conflict, do NOT make them weaker just to make a villlain seem strong pls pls plsπ
the fact aang only accepted that he had to kill ozai after yangchen's advice (which came to the same result as the others) shows just how much heavier her words weighted coming from another air nomad, someone who deeply understands where aang's hesitation and conflict comes from
Even tho Aang didn't take any of past avatars advice, it's important to notice that as Aang expected, only an Airnomad was able to understand and comprehend his situation, but since Yangchen didn't know energybending, it was the BEST advice she could give
if you think complex is only when bad character turns good then you don't fully grasp what complex means. in fact i would dare say "bad guy turns good" is a very simple character arc
"Zuko is the only complex character" in avatar is the most boring and stupid take in this fandom
Seems people can't recognize complex/good characters if they don't have a redemption arc
if there's one thing i'm confident in it's on kataang's soulmatism. nothing can be said about them that makes me doubt their love and story together, they were meant to be from episode one, their feelings were genuine, developed and mutual, everything led to their union
hating female characters just bc they're liked (or disliked) by men is so stupid, why the fuck are you letting men influence your opinions girl have an original thought
I hate Zuko's redemption arc, because it's really good, but everyone who talks about it or tries to replicate don't understand why. They'll make a character with childhood trauma and think that them healing from that trauma, usually through friendship or a love interest, will
got a hc that suki is appa's favorite after aang. appa's always happy and goes straight to suki when he sees her and likes to rub his face on her whenever they're next to each otherπ
SAVING APPA. this was appa's darkest period. he'd been abused and neglected for weeks. suki immediately recognizes appa's fur and remembers that aang has lost him. she tells the other warriors to be quiet, give appa space. they nurse him back to health.
but relax, that does not diminish or invalidates the changes and developments zuko has gone through, he grows and gradually becomes a better person who learns from the mistakes of his people. that just doesn't negates the fact that he's a colonizer, these two facts can/do coexist
if they had simply lived there and made minor changes to feel cozier and more homely to them it would work but they were basically destroying the placeπ€¦
isn't it crazy how katara found a boy frozen on ice and innocently decided to save him and he not only turned out to be the avatar bound to end war and bring peace but also her best friend and the love of her life? almost like fate
seeing appa be called aang's pet upsets me so bad, like, that's his life companion goddammit!! they're best friends, joined through their souls, to live and die together! put some respect on their bond!
@mirapakaya69
every time someone says that i know they ship zuko and katara and pretend to care about aang while just wanting him out of the way lol, it's pretty obvious even
@EclairDawnlight
katara is not just "his crush", she's his best friend and family after he lost his entire community. don't diminish katara's importance in his life just bc you don't like kataang, katara is canonically aang's earthly attachment and that's literally said and shown in the show
there's no way someone can possibly say the last agni kai was better than aang vz ozai, it was good but come on, aang mastering the avatar state and hunting down ozai was peak in so many ways, child me was out of my seat with excitement during the entire fight
overcome with aang love tonight, this sweet little guy is my baby, my friend, my bro, my bald lesbian, harbinger of joy and love, carrier of wisdom and pain beyond his age, a silly little man with too much fun and silliness to share, the avatar, the last airbender, aangie, aang
sometimes i try to decide who suffered more with aang's death but i always end up giving up bc aang was undoubtedly important and special to each of the gaang, he was a best friend and a family to all of them and they all suffered deeply with his death, i'm sure of it.
atla fandom is actually not that bad when you have experience in other fandoms, especially of famous shounen anime or something gigantic like sw (now those two are annoying afπ), if you ignore the shipping wars (that sadly exist everywhere) atla fandom is quite chill i think
