Anybody that says that we get the fear of the uncanny valley or legends of human like monsters from Neanderthals has clearly never read or studied anything on Neanderthals. Look at these reconstructions. They didn’t just look like people, they were people.

Ngl most proposed common names for dinosaurs sound cringe. Most are something “adjective + modern animal” which is not how common names for animals generally originate. Usually they appear organically through quirks in language or are appropriated words from other languages.

This reminds me of another thing. What common names would people have given non-avian dinosaurs? We mostly call dinosaurs by their scientific names because they don't have common names like modern animals do.

Hear me out, in a PotA style ape society gorillas would be best suited as the farmers. They're the most terrestrial of all apes and they're vegetarians so they would be ideally suited for planting crops, plus their strenght is ideal for physical labor and protecting cattle.

It is valid to use Troodon as a generic name for most troodontids, same way as when we refer to most felines as “cats” and dromaeosaurs as “raptors”. The whole clade is literally named after Troodon and the name is better than 90% of other troodontid genera
