Tech nerd and father. Bikes, mobility, food security, compassion, and building better cities. Sometimes work/nerdy stuff: MySQL, Kubernetes, Ruby, Rails, etc.
The housing crisis is endangering and killing vulnerable people, forcing them onto the streets, stripping them of all hope, pushing out of reach participation in society – and turning our cities into landfills. We can and must do better.
@CityofSeattle
@MayorofSeattle
@GovInslee
The
@EPA
should really be involved in pushing forward solutions to the US housing crisis. The entire country is rapidly becoming a massive superfund-type site due to so many desperate people living rough with no hope. We can do better.
@vanillaopinions
I think this is a somewhat insightful (in a bad-meh way) response actually. The average person has absolutely no concept as to how much 1°C increase over that volume of water represents in terms of total energy and how mind-blowing it is. How do we make the data more consumable?
@AkilahObviously
Their position is better stated as "are afraid to enforce any rule which does or primarily may affect white, especially jock-type, boys"; I think this has been the case since the beginning of time in this country. 🤮
If you spend any time on foot in a US city you quickly realize how insane it is that we purposely design intersections to give cars a green light across pedestrians who have a walk signal. Sacrificing human safety outside of cars to slightly decrease delay for car drivers.
@theblackcowgirl
@MarikaShavaughn
There’s a reason this sign exists 🤣
On the other hand I doubt she would mind later having that as a permanent tattoo, it’s rad.
Can someone explain to me like I am five why it is the responsibility of the city to, at no cost to the user, provide, pave, and maintain space used exclusively for long term storage of privately-owned automobiles? Everywhere, at the expense of all other productive uses?
@KyivIndependent
This is kind of brilliant to publicly offer to exchange him so that Russia has to publicly rebuff the offer and make it clear to everyone else aligned with Putin that their loyalty to the Kremlin is worth nothing.

Hey

how do you feel about rotorcraft wash being intentionally used as a weapon/nuisance – hovering at low altitude / zero airspeed,the helicopter's most dangerous flight regime – immediately over non-crew.

Everyone’s “the law is the law” about bikes and scooters until you suggest zero tolerance and zero margin enforcement for speeding in cars and the it’s “well but the speed limit is too low” and “exceeding the limit is akshewally legal when passing donchaknow”. 😂
Hot take, but cars in the US are needlessly overpowered and that is actually the root of many bad
#carbrain
behaviors. You don’t need to floor it at every opportunity and spin your tires just to get to the next red light. That’s how pedestrians and bikes “come out of nowhere”. 😡
Not a mini-roundabout. And this is creating a deadly fixed object (DFO) for errant vehicles. There are better and safer ways to calm traffic for all users, such as an actual mini-roundabout.
This person not only ignored the traffic control devices but then was moving at such a speed that they drove straight into a giant hole. Their driving privileges seriously need to be re-evaluated and/or revoked. There is just no way they are a safe driver the rest of the time.
So…NB 405 to NE 85th is closed this weekend for construction. This driver went around the cones designating the closure and ended up like this. No impairment and no injuries. Driver explained they “forgot” it was closed.

😳 No,

It might be hard for you to comprehend but if you’re getting continually re-overtaken by the same person, *you* are the slower traffic and you didn’t need to overtake at all.

This is not the future nor is it public transit, just a privately operated car on a private road. All while being incredibly inefficient and wasteful.
At least 150 vehicles collided on 1-55 outside of New Orleans Monday morning amid a "superfog." At least 7 people were killed, and more than 2 dozen were injured.
Smoke from nearby marsh fires contributed to the dangerously low visibility.

BREAKING: Nevada GOP electors cast ballot for macaroni and cheese and applesauce for lunch declaring themselves winner of the fight against meanie-poopoo-head Mommy and her totalitarian broccoli rule.
This type of designed-in traffic conflict drives me nuts in the US: knowingly risking the lives of the people on foot by forcing them to cross while cars also have a green light to turn across their path, to save drivers a few seconds. We can do better.
The key thing that people fail to understand is that blocking a bike lane is not bad because it impedes the flow of bike traffic, it’s bad because it endangers the lives of those riding the bikes. Blocking a car lane does not inherently endanger the lives of car drivers. 😒

Mr. Mayor, I’d be happy to take you on a little bike tour of the city if you’re unclear what the problem is (car drivers, cars, car-centric design, and lack of enforcement of *anything* illegal that cars do every day). You can even ride as passenger in my cargo bike. Let’s go. 🚲

Hear me out, instead of spending $240k per parking space we just buy 60-120 e-bikes per parking space and give them away. Subsidizing car parking at a rate of $21 per day per space is ridiculous.
“Assuming costs don’t continue to escalate — a big if — Sound Transit will pay about $240,000 per parking stall. The best case scenario is that, amortized over 30 years, this will cost about $8,000 per year per driver…”

It's really hard to take 9/11 "Never Forget" jingoism seriously in the midst of a pandemic that has killed 200+ 9/11s in the span of 18 months and we're still willing to entertain half the country mocking and trivializing the loss, and actively furthering the catastrophe. 💔🇺🇸
Every residential street in
#Seattle
: three car-widths wide with cars parked on both sides. Theoretically two-way, but barely enough space for one car to drive, let alone two cars (or car+bike) to pass. Such an absolute waste of space and city budget to subsidize this mess. 🤯
Sorry, I don't know my history here, so I don't know that this configuration is entirely new, but I find it funny that clearly nobody did any analysis/rendering of the offset lettering + off angle lighting combination used here. The readability is awful for basically no reason.
@FuckCarsReddit
What's incredible is that this is a very shitty way to shop, too. You basically end up having to drive from one shop to the next because the parking lots are all so big and far apart.
My toxic trait is that I will absolutely park my bike (especially the cargo bike) in a car parking space for as long as I want, and I will apologize to absolutely no one for it. It's a space to park the thing that got you there, and the thing that got me there was a bike. 🙃

Carroll had access to the school district's system due to her working at an elementary school, yet she or Grover accessed 372 high school students' records (which she had no legitimate need to access) including literally hundreds of them to cast these fraudulent votes.

I am enjoying these threads as all the Americans try and fail to piece together that the rest of the world is actually in the 21st century and all the rest of the world isn’t sure if the Americans are kidding or not.

Kaz, uh… the west was built a lot more by colonialist exploitation and slavery than any supposed “work ethic” of Protestants. China’s growth, well… this tweet is full of bad takes. If you really believe this, ugh.
I would really love to be positive about this but seriously why would we build this intentionally super narrow obstruction for pedestrians? That zig zag is insane.
Plank by plank, our work on the future Park Promenade is progressing! Here is the boardwalk beginning to take shape looking south near Seneca St.
The rendering shows the boardwalk looking north near University St.
Making any sort of comment or observation about being a pedestrian or bicycle rider in the world somehow draws out the absolute dumbest people society has to offer.

This is not entirely fair. You can save a few minutes by taking public transit! You just have to walk 49 minutes + 5 minutes to take the bus for ~1 minute.
