The housing crisis is endangering and killing vulnerable people, forcing them onto the streets, stripping them of all hope, pushing out of reach participation in society – and turning our cities into landfills. We can and must do better. @CityofSeattle @MayorofSeattle @GovInslee

@vanillaopinions I think this is a somewhat insightful (in a bad-meh way) response actually. The average person has absolutely no concept as to how much 1°C increase over that volume of water represents in terms of total energy and how mind-blowing it is. How do we make the data more consumable?

If you spend any time on foot in a US city you quickly realize how insane it is that we purposely design intersections to give cars a green light across pedestrians who have a walk signal. Sacrificing human safety outside of cars to slightly decrease delay for car drivers.

Hot take, but cars in the US are needlessly overpowered and that is actually the root of many bad #carbrain behaviors. You don’t need to floor it at every opportunity and spin your tires just to get to the next red light. That’s how pedestrians and bikes “come out of nowhere”. 😡

The key thing that people fail to understand is that blocking a bike lane is not bad because it impedes the flow of bike traffic, it’s bad because it endangers the lives of those riding the bikes. Blocking a car lane does not inherently endanger the lives of car drivers. 😒

Oh my god, it’s so quiet and peaceful. I was passed by a pack of kids like 6-9 years old on bikes with no adult supervision whatsoever, having the time of their lives, and I might have shed a tear. We can have this every day all across #Seattle if we choose to not be cowards. 🥹

@miaasanomusic This is actually fantastic and I teared up at the idea of a bunch of people that don't know each other each contributing their part to make something amazing.

@QasimRashid Qasim you misunderstood, when he said to show the law he meant to show it to _someone else_; he was in no way interested in seeing it as it hurt his fragile world view.

💯 – #depression and #anxiety are huge liars. I bought this art from @tonyposnanski but it's for one of YOU. Make any donation to @800273TALK and reply w/ receipt, I will match up to $5,000 total. One donor of $20+ will be chosen at random next Sunday to receive Tony's art. 💕

I thought these might be handy tips for those doing the #AdventOfCode challenges in Ruby. There are many Array operations which are equivalent to "image" manipulations when applied to a 2-dimensional Array-of-Arrays. Illustrated here with a 5x5 array of 'A'..'Y'. Have fun!

It’s a good thing I lost all that sleep and hair and got PTSDed to keep all those databases running for years to have this… THIS… be the end for the bird site. Ugh. 😭

I was out today working on the bike path between #Seattle ’s Alki Trail and the Spokane Street bridge. Removing litter, moss, mud, and vines, and clearing the path drains. 🧹 ✨

@FuckCarsReddit This is not entirely fair. You can save a few minutes by taking public transit! You just have to walk 49 minutes + 5 minutes to take the bus for ~1 minute.

I rode with thousands (17k+?) cyclists through Montréal on an entirely closed to cars 15 mile route in the evening. Woooooot. Wild. 🚲 💪 @VeloQuebec Tour la Nuit 2024 ✅ Free Québec chocolate milk at the finish line because Québec.

Also: It’s wild (crazy really) that there is no station between University of Washington and Capitol Hill.

Why is the @SoundTransit U District station so huge? It’s like 90% wasted volume?
