Pretty clear the showrunners didn't write Sage to be a villain. Much of the criticism of the series is that they telegraph this stuff the same way they made it obvious Maeve and A-Train would get redemption arcs. The politics are way too transparent to allow for many surprises.

This actually reflects poorly on everyone in the industry but Sandler and Scorsese. If I were a casting director and knew no one else was taking Pacino seriously, I'd have threw in bids just because.

I think it had more to do with the money that sent her to Oxford in the first place, but keeping blaming the world's problems on skin color. It'll win you a couple friends, at least.
