Jemima Levick has been appointed artistic director of Glasgow's
@PlayPiePint
. She leaves
@Stellarquines
, where she has been artistic director for almost five years
It’s out! Thanks all! I am completely overwhelmed by the love ❤️ (and I am sorry if/when I lied to you) I can’t even begin with what an honour going to
@TronTheatre
is, and how sorry I am to leave the mighty team at
@playpiepint
Merry Christmas, and big whoop for 2024! 🍾🥂
Today we are delighted to announce the appointment of our new Artistic Director, Jemima Levick.
Following the departure of Andy Arnold in November 2023 after an almost 16-year tenure,
@jemimalevick
will join the Tron Theatre team full-time from the beginning of April 2024.
My 4 year old has a new thing when she thinks something is gross, she says with total disgust “that is absolutely rankin” (meaning rank) and I’m sorry
@RikRankin
I think of you every time 🤣
My brilliant mum (who is far too humble to brag about what a total star she is) just found out that she’s been writing for
@WalkerBooksUK
for 30 yrs! AND has sold over 4000,000 books for them alone. Yep, 4000,000! Told you she was brilliant. Yes, you
@fivekingdoms
❤️❤️❤️
Public service announcement (for those that might have forgotten) Over the past week I’ve emailed, talked to and BEEN IN A ROOM with a whole load of Scottish artists and I tell ya, they are world class. Open. Professional. Talented. Determined. Fun. It’s an absolute fucking joy
For our 20th anniversary year we’ve channelled David MacLennan’s spirit by making room for a load of writers (and some directors) who haven’t been a part of the PPP family before. In this year of celebration, the spotlight is on them 🎉
As
@jemimalevick
leaves
@Stellarquines
to take over at
@PlayPiePint
, she explains why the Glasgow new-writing theatre appealed to her and how she plans to test the boundaries of what lunchtime theatre can be

News:
@Stellarquines
appoints "rising star in Scottish Theatre"
@caitskin
as its new Artistic Director & CEO
All the best to Caitlin in the new role!
We are throwing headgear in the air here - it is such good news for theatre in Edinburgh and Scotland.
Here are my lovely kids two years ago (they’ve grown!) and some fella called
@RikRankin
singing a song by that funny pair
@wearenoisemaker
It was a sh*t time. But we had a lovely time making it… thanks

Ambitious plans are in development to construct a "one-stop shop" production facility for London's theatres, enabling them to store, reuse and recycle sets. The proposals claim such a facility would revolutionise the performing arts in Greater London
It has been an honour and an absolute privilege to steer the
@Stellarquines
ship over the past 5 years. I leave behind an exceptional team and board of governors and (I hope) a legacy of productions, artist development, advocacy and creative learning...
This week we're saying goodbye to
@jemimalevick
who is stepping down as our Artistic Director and CEO after 5 years with the company. We can't wait to see what she does in her new role with
@PlayPiePint
. Good luck Jemima - we'll miss you!⭐️
Dear Matthew Warchus. If you drop me a line I might consider finding you a directing slot
@PlayPiePint
where we can teach you what ‘supremely informal’ theatre looks like. It involves pies. All the best, Jemima x
To everyone that joined
@cast_scot
and
@PlayPiePint
this week, a giant THANK YOU. Your commitment, passion and talent inspired us all. Exhausted tonight but tomorrow will be ready to leap into the season and compile 100 lists full of new names. Until next time 🙏 🙏 🙏
So having waved goodbye to the
#MaggieMay
company today for the final time (well, I hope it isn’t, but you know what I mean) I’m feeling immensely sad so I’m giving myself a
#NewProfilePic
to remind myself of that happy, happy rehearsal room 💛💙
I tell you what twitter pals, I did some directing this week. It was over zoom and weird and all that, but it was FUN and I feel a teeny bit giddy. When we get back to making again, we are going to have an absolute ball 😊
Spent a whopping 4 hours making dinner tonight. Shan’t bother again. Very nice, but frankly, life is too short. Not least as my 7 year old described eating it “like when you have to do a really hard poop and the hairs on your arms go ping ping ping - but not in a good way” 😏
Today is my two year anniversary
@PlayPiePint
and I’m rehearsing this all day, and that makes me very happy.
(that I started this job on April Fool’s Day should probably be dissected at some point, but I can’t quite bring myself to go there just yet…) 🎭🥧🍻❤️
#SCOTS
is back from next week! 🏴
Tickets are selling fast for

Anyway, so this week PPP has 3 fab shows playing across Scotland, 2 ace shows in rehearsal, I’ve got ALL the paperwork to do in the world and a show to prep for rehearsals starting next week (excited!) my kids need world book day outfits, and well it wasn’t enough. So I got Covid
Congrats to
@GlasgowWEToday
for launching their first IRL magazines. Had a lovely chat with Ian. And managed to demonstrate on their front cover just how tired you look when your organisation is as busy as
@PlayPiePint
is 😂
Almost exactly two years ago to the day, I was filming this little lockdown film for
@NTSonline
with the outstanding pair that make
@wearenoisemaker
This week, we are opening a very, very silly musical musical
@PlayPiePint
I am very lucky ❤️ (
@RikRankin
was pretty good too)

In an act of self care I’m off on holiday (self care is the thing we all talked about through lockdown and forgot about more recently).
I’m going to hang out with my family on a beach (yay us!). So. While it’s extremely unlikely I’ll see your Fringe show…
An artist in a major leadership role! Whoop! A woman in a major leadership role! Double whoop!! A Scottish woman in a major leadership role! Triple whoop!!! Congratulations 🎉
Today I am delighted to have been announced as the Director Designate of the
@edintfest
, beginning the role on 1 Oct 2022. I am proud to become the first Scottish and first female since the Festival began in 1947 1/3
At 9pm on Monday Richard Rankin stars in The Longest Summer a lyrical, life-affirming musical journey written by Noisemaker - aka Scott Gilmour and Claire McKenzie - and directed by Jemima Levick. (2/4)
So, does anyone know if Scot Gov have reviewed (as promised, by 7th June) the reopening guidelines for performing arts audiences (i.e. social distancing reduced from 2m)… asking for a friend… and a whole lot of pies…
Date night!
Did we spend it gazing into one another’s eyes? Or, did we spend it (half cut) getting the kids back to bed, persuading the cat to get off the roof and searching for a toy polar bear, Dogger style?
YES!!
Living the dream
While there are a lot of new-writing initiatives in UK theatre, the lack of opportunity for that work to be staged is a big cause for concern, says

Twitter doesn’t have enough space for me to go on and on about how INCREDIBLY EXCITED I am to be doing this amazing play again ⭐️ AND how absolutely magnificent it is to be IN A REHEARSAL ROOM with this gorgeous bunch ⭐️ it’s as good as we remember it people ❤️

A formal thank you to the people that reintroduced the following phrases to me over the past few days
“suffering fuck”
“rough rough rough as a badgers arse”
“for the love of fuck”
These will herein be part of my daily lexicon
Don’t lose hope. It might be complete carnage, but from carnage comes revolution and ultimately change. It can and it must. We must make it happen....
I’m am clearly not going to bed anytime soon....
I’m late to

party, only on episode 1 and I’m intrigued... Mirren Mack is brilliant but I’ve got to ask... why is it in

dramas, is the lead woman always English? Was the same in Guilt and Deadwater Fell... 🤔

Shocking news: the Scottish Government is breaking its promise on arts funding.
In February, thousands joined our campaign to speak out against a £6.6 million cut to Creative Scotland.
It worked. Ministers abandoned the cut.
But now they're bringing it back.
Our Spring season begins with a timeless classic from one of the 20th century’s greatest playwrights, Arthur Miller, with his powerful American play All My Sons. A gripping story of a family in crisis.
Beautiful night in honour of Pauline Knowles, staged beautifully by
@PearlfisherScot

All those incredible actors paying tribute to her with their talent. So moving and so indicative of the Scottish theatre community ❤️
So pleased to share this research and work with such fantastic collaborators to bring it to life

Hi
@BBCr4today
I’m going to try listening to you again tomorrow morning, but if you reduce
@NicolaSturgeon
to (and I quote) “a one policy minister” again, I’m leaving you.
It’s week 6. We need things that make us happy. I give you: the list of mini-beasts my 6 year old found and drew from our garden.
We must learn from their happiness

Breastfeeding is permitted at KLM flights. However, to ensure that all our passengers of all backgrounds feel comfortable on board, we may request a mother to cover herself while breastfeeding, should other passengers be offended by this.
We're seeking an Artistic Director and CEO to lead us in the next stage of our journey.
If you're a theatre-maker committed to intersectional feminism in the arts, we'd love you to apply. Or please share with anyone you know who'd be brilliant in the role
Really so many things to say about
@Emiliatheplay
you should just go and see it. BUT here’s just one. Not only is there a cast of extraordinary women on stage, the entire creative team are women too. Oh and look, the Producers... See! Not so hard, is it?
Come then writers* …let’s be having you. No need to have written a whole play for submission. David wanted PPP to be a home for people ‘giving it a go’ for the first time - is that you…?
*also applies to people that might not consider themselves ‘a writer’ just yet…
New writers, we want to help you find your voice...
Submissions are now open for The David MacLennan Award 2022! The winner will have their work developed and produced, before being presented on stage as part of our Spring 2023 Season

So, we drove to South Wales this wkend to see my nephew in his 1st school play, and obvs I thought he was the best and no, this isn’t a ‘my nephew is gonna be a star!’ tweet* but it was a giant reminder of the magic of drama & arts depts in schools and the importance of them…
On a very dark day for artist lead theatre, for kids and disability focussed work

Much much much to say about this article, but for now… we have no new models because no one invests in the future of leadership anymore. And also

Who wants to run a British theatre in 2023?
Fewer and fewer qualified people, it seems, says

. Theatre needs to work harder to support its existing leaders.
