As a Jew I’ve literally never experienced anti-semitism in left spaces, including at dozens of pro-Palestine actions. Every instance of anti-semitism I’ve ever experienced has come from white (usually blonde) Christians. This effort to blame anti-semitism on the left is absurd.

Truth is that California IS a cautionary tale -- even when Democrats dominate, the oligarchs win, the poor lose, nothing meaningful is done about climate change or poverty or police violence or mass incarceration, etc. California is the best argument against the Dem Party.

It'd be cool if the 'socialist' councilmember was advocating for public housing rather than the privatized "affordable housing" model that relies on for-profit financiers jumping through 100 different hoops to put together the funding.

For years in LA, affordable housing projects on public land have been forced to jump through way more hoops than private developments. Yesterday, we introduced a motion with @mhdcd8 and @CW_HeatherHutt to finally change that. (thread)

This is a perfect example of how tenant protections aren’t actually real. The legal system is so inaccessible to the point where most regulations do almost nothing. The people writing policy need to get this.

A @houstonpubmedia reporter went to four different courthouses last week to observe about 100 eviction cases. Only one renter was able to use the CDC's new ban to block their eviction. So, in 99% of those cases, the order was having no effect at all.

Wrote about how Los Angeles is a cautionary tale and is failing tenants: "Even under the best conditions that liberalism and the Democratic Party have to offer, those who don’t own property will be exploited by those who do." @MayorOfLA we see you.

Beware of "progressives" (or even "socialists") who just want to be the next generation of gatekeepers for left-leaning electoral politics. That shit is classist and racist and we should have no tolerance for it.

It's FUCKING OUTRAGEOUS that @GavinNewsom and @MayorOfLA are opening things back up right now. COVID-19 is spiking in California and LA right now. They are murdering people. Their actions will lead to thousands of more deaths. They should resign.

It is very bleak for tenants trying to find lawyers to fight evictions. Basically every nonprofit law firm is completely at capacity. The Stay Housed program has surely helped a lot of people but it’s also enormously inadequate.

The best thing LA could do to get the state or the federal gov't to CANCEL RENT would be to do it at the city level. Even if they're not sure it's legal, they could go out on a limb for tenants, and put pressure on the state to do so. @MayorOfLA and @CD6Nury are not excused.

If @MayorOfLA becomes Housing Secretary it’s not because he’s done well at addressing homelessness Los Angeles but because he’s done well at serving the interests of the rich and powerful.

Everyone in LA knows homelessness has exploded under Garcetti’s watch. He may soon be in charge of housing for the entire country.

what is this @MayorOfLA . A pastor who's been outside Garcetti's home protesting inaction on housing residents of Skid Row was arrested on "felony stalking" charges and had bail set at $150,000.

There's no cleaner indicator of the priorities of LA's ruling class than shutting down the largest COVID testing site in LA so the Dodgers could play an intramural game.

Cutting bus service is an attack on poor people, period. Could be completely avoided if we defunded the police and/or taxed the rich.

With the extreme housing crisis after World War II, LA allowed temporary veterans' housing to remain standing for 6 years, finding that "emergency conditions" still existed. There's no reason to end COVID eviction protections so soon.
