RIP Gerry Marsden. The Beatles weren't the only great songwriters out of the Merseybeat scene - Gerry was often undervalued in that respect. "Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying" especially is a totally beautiful record. A sad loss today.

I’ve got into listening to elvis podcasts and the gulf between them and other music podcasts is nuts. beatles podcasts are like “this music is great and a gift to humanity”. elvis podcasts are like “I can broadly tolerate this track. he sounds roughly 60% committed to the vocal”.

60 today, maybe the best Beatles single. Certainly the most mysterious. The session tape and documentation are gone; we’ll never know for sure if it was sped up, or the number of tape edits. We’ll never hear it in true stereo. Just as well it’s perfect.
