So so sad to hear about Dave Myers. Our Zoe loved him so much that she wanted to go to the School fancy dress day as Dave of @HairyBikers she was only 10 years old then. She started getting interested in cooking all because of him. She'll be devastated.

If you hadn't noticed we've been closed this week. Tommy my 19yr old Autistic Son was tested postive for Covid last weekend so we are all isolating at home. Tommy seems O.K., I keep asking him "how you feeling Tommy" ?? his stock answer is "I can't taste my Mars bar."

Very proud of Kim & Kev who have the cafe across the road, they haven't been able to open for 4 months but instead of doom&gloom, moaning&groaning they have put money into their fab cafe and having a total bi-folding, flooring, and painting refit. Good luck on the re-open.

@RoseUnwin Our Tommy is Autistic and has had the most wonderful education throughout his young life but will never sit an exam. We are still teaching him how to do his laces, shower him properly and put a hat on the right way round, but he teaches us a few things about life too.

Just had Michael Sheen in the shop, he's dead handsome even under the bushiest beard you've ever seen. He was having a nice quiet 5 minutes to himself looking at the cards, it must be a proper pain in the arse being recognised all the time. Glad I'm just Pete the cardshop.

The wiring in Tommy's Autistic brain is incredible. We just drove past a pub in Marshfield, he turned to me & said "we went there on Sunday 18th of November 2007 with Uncle Jeff, we had Pork & I didn't like the gravy." He was 6 yrs old. I can't remember where I left my car keys.

Yes It's a wonderful dream, but when you put your heart & soul into your bookshop, the passion in display, the careful selecting of titles, then you see someone on their phone ordering a book from Amazon that they have just seen in your shop, it breaks your bloody heart. Unfair.

My Mother is nearly 85 and works 9-5/6 days a week, as a child she was evacuated from Burma to Calcutta when the Japanese invaded, she is as tough as old boots. So when things get tough in the Gift trade she thinks nothing of eating a week old croissant from Spar.

I've been quiet on twitter this week as Tommy had a cluster seizure on Monday & had a nasty fall with it. However we received the most amazing help & care from the Epilepsy Nurses at the Alan Richens unit U.H.W. They really are Angels, efficient Angels too. @NHSMillion we 💘 you

As a parents of a special needs child we always wanted Tommy to fly the nest, go to college and let the experts teach him essential life skills to help him live an independent life as an Adult. However it's been 5 days now and we miss him dreadfully, BUT it's not about us. 💔

Mum & Dad sold their house in 1979 for 44k then bought a shop for 33k, with the change they 'did it up' creating a bookshop, they didn't have a clue about books, but loved the idea. Come and celebrate 40 years today 6pm-8 pm for bubble and nibbles, @garlofllandaff are open too.🥂

One of the best parts of our holiday to Florida was at the start when a wonderful member of the @VirginAtlantic crew (Gemma) noticed Tommy's Autism & made a real fuss of him.When we landed she took him to meet the Captain & he got to sit in her seat. Thankyou @Gatwick_Airport ✈

Tommy has always loved trains. As a little Boy we would walk him down to Radyr train station and spend hours watching the trains go by. Now 20 and in @ColegElidyr we took him out for pizza, chips today and popped to see the trains on the heart of Wales line. @walesrailtrail

Funeral arrangements are now finalised for my dear Mum Jen. It is to be at the Wenallt Chapel at Thornhill Crematorium on Friday 23rd of December at 2.45. She will leave the High Street around 2ish. May I take this opportunity to thank you all for the kindness you have shown us.

My Parent's split up (amicably) in 1992 & although my Dad remarried Mum never met anyone else. However there's new Man in her life, they've been inseparable for days, they are both so happy, they're together all the time, he's just asked for the day off on the 24th of December.

I don't normally watch Tellytubbies, Thomas the Tank or Fireman Sam in the evening BUT Tommy is off to the fabulous @ColegElidyr (residential college for special needs adults) on Friday and we are making the most of every last second we have with him before he flies the nest.

This Month 27 years ago my Mother said "you can't start working with me in the shop until April coz my old age pension doesn't kick in till then". At 87 years old she's still going strong 6 days a week and I have just awarded myself a medal (the size of a bloody frying pan)

4 years ago I put a base down for a deck in our outdoor space, but never finished it off Lockdown meant that I had the 4 days to complete the job. When this weird situation is over & I realise I no longer have a #HighSt to go back to, I can always start the Garden carpentry work

Llandaff Chemist & ourselves share a community award for efforts during Covid (we get this trophy for 6 months). During lockdown we put cards in our locked doorway & asked people to donate through the letterbox. A lush customer doubled the money & we got 2K for Breast Cancer.

As your kids get older they slowly need you less & less, so when it's time for them to leave home you've got used to them not being around. But for parents of a special needs child you go from full-on care & attention to nothing, suddenly they're gone" I'm still finding it hard.

Jen has been poorly lately, the Doc sent her to Llandough hospital for an M.O.T. oil change, & greased her joints, they plugged her into a machine to find out what the problem is. They've adjusted her tablets so thats good news, just hope there's a tablet to stop her shrinking.

'The road long' from Llandovery to @ColegElidyr its about 5 miles uphill & winds through beautiful countryside.Tommy is in the front of the car on his way to college, he suddenly breaks into song, it's "He ain't heavy " by the Hollies, he sings it word perfect, Nicks in bits.

The story so far:- March 23rd closed for 3 months, End of June re-opened (very quiet) July & August 10am-4pm only (even quieter) Then:- Schools went back & K2 Coffee ho opened & we start to get busy again. So with this in mind our opening hours will now be:- 9.30am - 5pm 💖

With Mum's funeral this Friday I've forgotten to mention the dress code for the occasion. Mum was rarely seen without jeans on, jeans in work, jeans watching the soaps & I'm sure she wore them to bed, so if you are thinking of popping along please wear your jeans, as we are.

Busy decorating this week but the Girls in Blush hair and beauty (opposite the shop) called me over. 'Oh' I thought maybe they've got a bit of gossip or a joke or maybe they were going to give me one of their lovely coffees. BUT NO.. All they said was:- I look like where's Wally

If you told me at the start of the year that by the end of April I'd be on my 40th day of a virus lockdown, killing time making a wooden model of Tenby Harbour in the garage and dreaming up new pizza toppings with leftovers and stale wraps I would think you were barking mad.

I have time to watch & admire my Mum as we wait for the Doctor to ring, it's painful to watch her slow recovery from what ever she had in 2020. However we still have humour, we laughed when said that her soup eating reminded me of a worn out Hoover sucking up an old sock.

I know here in Wales we are still in lockdown & no essential shops like ours are open, BUT I just want to thank @cardiffcouncil for the help with the rates grant And of course @HMRCgovuk for the self-employment payment support, you have made it the whole thing far less stressful

Take a 17 year old Autistic Boy to watch @CardiffCityFC promotion game & when the tension got very high early in the game I pulled back Tommy's headphones & asked what he was listening to?.. he replied..."Mozart". Perhaps he might start a trend. @CardiffCityLive @cardiffcitymad

25 years running the shop & I always worried about taking a break. However with the lockdown, camping in France & then the subsequent quarantine for a further 2 weeks has made me realise there is a chance to become a garden and outdoor space carpenter after all.

We are not allowed to open & I'd never break the rules BUT there's nothing to stop me putting some Mothers day cards in the doorway. Should you want one just pop a contribution through the letterbox, in this way I am not officially selling anything. Stands out from 10am to 3pm.

Tommy is 21 in a couple of weeks time. He doesn't ask for much (only the odd Mars bar) So when we asked him what he wanted for his birthday he said that he wanted a "Tommy Brock" He is absolutely beautiful, thanks to @HamleysOfficial London for such amazing service. #Steiff

We dropped Zoe off at @UWEBristol yesterday. She's a funny, confident, friendly & sociable Girl but dumping her in a strange (but lovely) City she'll have to draw on these personality strengths to get through this 1st week. It's not easy for kids leaving home for the 1st time.

We still help Tommy to put his socks on, shower him properly, give him his Epilepsy meds, drive him everywhere & hold his hand to cross the road.But he batters me everytime on his Music choice & knowledge on the Alexa. He chooses music from all decades and all genres. #Autism

It's been a bit of a year!! Sorting Mum's probate, selling our house, dealing with Tommy's return from special needs college, Zoe off to Uni, renovating the flat & the big move in. However the commute to work is fab. Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Running out of things to do with the kids in lockdown?? Well, there's a fab thing going on in Danes Court woods De Braose drive, someone has started a chain of painted pebbles snaking through the blue bell wood, you are invited to paint your own pebble and place it in the line.

Just to let you know with lighting and heating now costing me £550 a month I have taken the sad decision to close down the back two rooms . Slightly less Welsh cards, less kids stuff & less wrap, but we still retain 4000+ card images which we are excited to try and improve.

Well this weird, unusual, scary, mostly pleasant, & fun lockdown has come to an end, we re-opened the shop thismorning. So to celebrate the occasion here is a video from one of the first mornings back in March when Zoe thought it was a good idea to give me a buzz cut. #CovidCut
