“In many ways Cardiff was my gateway to the world,” says
@michaelsheen
in our Echo column. “I hope Cardiff represents to the [players in the
@homelesswrldcup
] what it did for me: freedom, hope, and the sense that something really special is just beginning.” Beautiful, mun.
An attack on Bute Park is an attack on Cardiff is an attack on us all...
Thousands of pounds worth of damage, 50 trees destroyed…
Crimestoppers: 0800 555 111.
Heath Hospital ready for 'huge wave' with more than 800 clinicians from across different departments having been given specialist Covid-19 training. (Needless to say, wishing them well and want them to know our immense gratitude.)
Awesome image by Georgina Harper of the storm raging on the edge of Cardiff yesterday. ⚡️ Taken from Garth Hill. As seen on her Insta: Front page Echo contender

To AWJ: “So you’re the number one team in the world, how does that feel?”
AWJ: “Well we’re a team of 3.2 million so you gotta be happy with that.”
Legend!
There’s a celebratory bike ride in Cardiff tomorrow in honour of
@GeraintThomas86
, starting at 7.30pm at The Senedd in Cardiff Bay and heading to
@cardiff_castle
via the Barrage and along the Taff Trail. Wear yellow!

We’re 10 years old today! For all your positivity, support, custom, and in allowing this curious, unplanned adventure to unfold, THANK YOU! DIOLCH! Have learnt so much, and have met so many brilliant people who are equally passionate about
#Cardiff
- it’s been a true privilege.
Good evening
@cardiffcouncil
, here’s the queue outside a bar on St Mary’s Street at 00.27. I asked
@SWPCardiff
why they weren’t challenging or enforcing it, and they said it’s the establishment’s responsibility under
@WelshGovernment
guidance. Can’t we all work together on this?
This is fairly frightening and bordering on the bizarre - there four different Welsh anti-20mph Facebook groups, and all have the same Sunderland-based Conservative chap as an admin. In his own town he’s pro 20mph. Worth reading
@WillHayCardiff
’s whole thread.
Though Mr Reed has seemingly dedicated significant energy opposing the 20mph limit in Wales, his opposition doesn’t seem to transfer to his home town.
He posed for this picture where he proudly announced he had arranged an “extension of the 20mph zone”.
The trouble with Chapter is, when that woman totally kicked off in a very unChapterish sort of way earlier and started shouting and making a scene, everyone thought it was impromptu performance art.
Paying our respects at
@CardiffCityFC
Stadium today. Some very moving and lovely tributes to Emiliano
#Sala
. With deepest condolences to his many friends and family. Love from Cardiff.
How are you rising above making petty comments when seeing photos from friends from sunny Penarth and other nice spots that they’ve clearly driven to – whilst you’ve just done yet another boring walk from the house? Aside from coming on yer to have a moan, I mean.
You’ve probably noticed this too but one pleasant upside to all this is the lack of planes passing overhead. No sky full of vapour trails, just pure

blue.
If you’d like to just talk to someone, there’s a person on Roath Rec with two deck chairs and a sandwich board advertising the fact that they’re ready to listen. Please share.
Bike lane, Cathays Terrace – previously a desperately dangerous street for cyclists. Weird cycling around your hometown in safety (when on these new lanes). It’s like being abroad or something.
More good news today: Cardiff will host the 2019 Creative Cities Convention after seeing off competition from Bristol and Glasgow. It's one of the UK's leading media conferences put together by the likes of BBC, Channel 4 and
@PactUK
.
Genuine question: why aren't people wearing masks when they go to Cardiff supermarkets? The argument against masks is generally: "A mask doesn't stop you getting it – it'll more likely stop you giving it to other people." Precisely. What's the harm?
This IS big Cardiff news - and something we’d wished would happen but genuinely didn’t believe ever would. The feeder canal beneath Churchill Way may one day see light of day.
Rhys, a Cardiff business owner and top fella, has bought a replacement bike for the lad who recently had his stolen. It’ll be with him early next week. Have enjoyed chatting with Rhys and wish to thank him publicly for caring about restoring the boy’s means of independence. 👏🏼
A 13-year-old lad had his bike taken from him on Wellfield Road yesterday evening at approximately 6:30pm. He was shaken up by the incident. This is the Ghost bike that the buggers stole. Please keep an eye out and DM us if you have any info. Ta.
Since it’s a buzz word right now... Anyone remember Corona pop? Came outta Porth (hence The Pop Factory studio) and used to be distributed direct to the people by horse and cart and then by lorry. pic via
@MIAmodeo
As groups of kids left school, some were forced into the road and the path of oncoming cars and a cyclist. Watched it happen. I think it’s reasonable to suggest that parking all four wheels of your vehicle on the pavement should result in your motor being confiscated for a month.
Epic turnout at the

Good to see that the rebuilding of Cardiff’s Vulcan Hotel has begun
@StFagans_Museum
. The 1853 Adam Street boozer will be reassembled over the next three years. Hopefully on wheels so it can be carted back to town on match days.

Owen John Thomas, founder of
@ClwbIforBach
, has died aged 84. "He knew the streets of his beloved Cardiff like the back of his hand and always had a story for every building," recalls his son, Hywel.
Poor Cardiff city centre, all empty on international day. No crowds, no noise, no singing, no mountains of discarded chip packaging in Caroline Street...
