The more I learn about the spiritual rights of Muslim women, the more I realise that we’re not taught our rights in the same way or with the same emphasis that we’re taught how we have to be of service to men.

Let's not forget that days before Sarah Everard was kidnapped, raped & murdered, her killer was reported for indecent exposure and nothing happened. The excused actions of men become death sentences for women because we live in a society that lets men get away with their crimes

Just a few days ago, men were falling over themselves to say that @elondonmosque was protecting women by excluding us from qiyam prayers. Today, that same mosque had women pray on the street whilst men took the basement that’s usually allocated to women. All about safety, eh?

the basement, the gallery - had become allocated to the men. So while women waited for 8 rakahs to finish, and some of us (many women joined us) were praying on the street, the men were comfortable inside. Taraweeh is a nafl prayer, meaning it’s better for *everyone - women and

I just feel so failed by the little Islamic education I’ve had within mosques, and I firmly believe Muslim women scholars are the future for teaching today’s generation of Muslim girls their rights, how to worship God and that we are entitled to His mercy and love.

I want to see Muslim women creating organisations which prioritise the faith of women because we genuinely have been failed by mosques, ‘leaders’ and organisations who have utterly disregarded our right to access our faith in the way God intended

Also is it deliberate that we aren’t taught this? That a whole body of scholarship has just not been mainstreamed in the same way other scholarship has? Idk but we have a duty to platform this and teach God’s faith as He intended

@indigojo_uk @phenomenal_nisa There are plenty of women who have family members who might already be at the mosque, women can drive, women can get a ride from other women. There are lots of options - a blanket exclusion is not okay

For all the trolls, my local mosque is about 1/10th of the size of ELM. It has qiyam facilities for women during the last 10 days. Plenty of women attend with other women, their husbands/ sons/ brothers/ dads. It’s not that difficult

Every so often we see certain Muslim men reveal themselves and show they do not care about the faith of Muslim women. It’s why women led faith spaces are so important We shouldn’t have to justify or fight to have access to a place of prayer in the Holiest month

@ummxsma what we aren’t going to do is project our trauma onto other women. Plenty of Muslim women have parents who have instilled a love for the mosque in them. Just because you don’t want to go, or aren’t allowed to go, doesn’t mean other women are in the same boat

the biggest scam we've been sold is that there's only one way to God and that way is always sold as a rulebook, devoid of mercy, love and compassion. God is literally accessible to anyone who wants Him to be accessible to them

The debates around women & taraweeh reminds me of the time Amaliah published a piece by a woman on 10 things she can't reconcile in Islam. The backlash to this ignored the utter tragedy that this woman had to turn to the internet because she couldn't access a scholar

Really important that off the back of this video, a woman spoke to her husband and explained the issue, he challenged their local mosque on the decision, asked them to open for women's taraweeh and they've agreed. Men, you have SO much power in this situation, use it.

I was off twitter for most of yesterday evening but saw there's been some controversy about women wanting to pray taraweeh prayers and the work @MyMosqueStory is doing to help with this. Taraweeh prayer isn't fardh so the argument that it's more important for men isn't valid. 1/5

For those who can’t see a connection, Sarah’s murderer has a history of indecent exposure, which is a crime, that he got away with repeatedly. When women are not believed or these crimes deemed unimportant and not fully investigated, it is women who suffer the consequences.

We know that the exclusion of women from mosques is unIslamic & we're trying to build a space for women to connect to Allah. This is why our Scholarly Works campaign exists - to educate & debunk the narrations thrown at us to justify seeing women as lesser believers than men. 4/5

a lot of people, particularly women, come forward with their experiences of the Muslim charity sector but they're gaslighted, ignored & silenced. It comes at a huge reputational & mental health risk- the issue isn't always coming forward, it's that the 'community' doesn't listen

Thanks to lockdown, I've been working on The Female Mosque Experience 😊 If you're a woman in the UK who attends a mosque and you want to share your experience, you can do here: Read how it'll help other women: @Amaliah_Tweets

If you order a cake from Chaims and she quotes you a price, please add £20 to the price bc she is consistenly underselling herself and, I for one, am SICK of it🤦🏾‍♀️

I thought starting a cake business would be a walk in the park. It is a walk in the park with thorns and stinging nettles. I drove for 2 hours today to get the silliest cake board which didn’t arrive in time when I ordered online. I also undercharged for this cake😊😊😊😊😊

@SadiqDorasat This definitely applies in many cases but for Muslim women, they don't have access to the mosque for Fajr let alone switching on the lights. Those uncles in many cases won't accept women in the mosque to pray let alone anything else. Important to nuance this discussion.

To anyone who may have booked a wedding venue pre-covid, my sister and her husband have now had a full refund after @RoyalNawaabUK initially refused to provide one. We got a solicitor involved as they were using bogus legislation to avoid it. We got 100% of the money

This is why, in Ramadan, we're running the Tadabbur Series - to help women connect to the Quran. Tickets have sold out but support our work if it resonates and keep us in your prayers because we're hoping to do more iA 5/5

Mick’s work doesn’t get enough recognition, and he deals with some shocking abuse. I don’t say it enough but congrats @miqdaad , you’re smashing it and ruffling the right feathers and I’m super proud to know you and be able to make fun of you 😊

Very fortunate to have the @Guardian 's long read do an in-depth look at my work on Islamophobia in sections of the British media.
