Naughty Dog has cancelled The Last of Us Online.
Supporting the game would have meant putting the full resources of the studio to support the title for years, impacting their single player games.
"We have more than one ambitious, brand new single player game that we're working
👋🏽Hello There! I'm Rico, an Associate Environment Artist at Naughty Dog. Previously I was a Senior/Lead 3D Artist in a different industry. Excited to be working in games now and meeting really awesome artists. I build detailed Props and Assemblies.

I took a Substance 3D Painter class at Naughty Dog hosted by the amazing Christophe Desse who provided this base model. We were tasked with coming up with a theme and texturing the model. I went with a Barbenheimer theme because I like memes. 😎

The mental gymnastics I had to perform when modeling this with limited to no reference of the massive Engine Assembly, tracing ever individual cable connection, matching the texture ref and somehow putting it all together is when I realized I might actually know what I am doing.
This is the result of todays session. 1 rendered sequence down, 3 more to go. This was 2 render passes. I separated the MJ8 and the BG to have control over each adjustment separately.
Hello There! I'm George, a 3D Hard Surface and Texture Artist looking for a career change into the Game Industry. Remote, Full-time work is preferable but I'm open to options.

I recently had the opportunity to be interviewed by an Art Director, Associate Art Director, & Lead Environment Artist with 20+ years each in the Games Industry. Spent 20 mins just on my portfolio and I have 2 major take aways. Breakdowns and Reference used are Very Important.
I have giving some portfolio reviews and a common thing that comes up is lack of brake downs. Show your wireframe, show your materials and uv mapping. Talk about the numbers at play with polys and draw calls. You need to prove you understand all of that and showing it is how.

🔁 QRT you 3D modeling a chair! 💪🏽
I decided to model a Titan Seated Stationary Bench, cuz gym equipment. It still technically a chair by definition. I spent approximately 1 hour 30 mins modeling. This was a fun exercise.

This aspect still confuses me, can I have one-mesh one-material (assume painted in Substance Painter)asset, but with several UVs, like you said, separate UVs for smaller parts?
That's totally me spinning the model, rotating the lighting, toggling shadows, switching HDR Environments, and toggling between World/Camera lighting in Painter to make sure the roughness hits just right. 🤌🏽
Today is my official first day at Naughty Dog. 🥰
Excited to be apart of this amazing team and Level Up ⬆️ my skill sets.

Sometimes the best methods are the accidental ones from FA & FO. If the end result is the same, it doesn't really matter how you got there. Forgetting how to do something forces you to learn something new to get the same or better result. Tech and workflows evolve over time.
Replaying The Last of Us Part 1 in preparation for the show tonight. I can't even enjoy it because I am over analyzing the environment art/props. I saw these AC units and immediately thought of

Reference is king!
I sometimes spend days ref gathering and researching before I start a project. The ref board evolves throughout the duration of the project as specific details are needed for modeling and texturing.

release is out with a new path tool to create re-editable splines that snap to your 3D model. Create stitches, pipes, welds, cables and all sorts of curvy details effortlessly 🧑🏭🥽
😊 I just want to say welcome and thank you to everyone for the likes and follows. I make a lot of WIP posts of personal projects so you will get to see some cool stuff from time to time.
💯 I was a 3D generalist because of the types of jobs I was getting required me to be. After many years I took a step back, looked at my portfolio and realized, I wasn't where I should be. I decide to FOCUS on Modeling & Texturing which GREALTY improved my skills exponentially.
I’m not doing any portfolio reviews this year and ending my mentorships.
Apologies to those I didn’t get to but here’s things I found myself going over multiple times:
> Most of you were graduates. Your universities failed to prepare you for the industry. Most of you didn’t know
@3DFoliageArtist
I have before in the past. In Oct 2022 my portfolio day post got me noticed by a Lead at Naughty Dog. They DM's me and skipped me right into interviews. I passed all of my Persuasion Checks in each session and got my first Games Industry job as an Associate Environment Artist.

Triple Crowed my favs. Jean was my first one. Still praying to the RNG Gods to get the rest of her Constellations. Actually lost the 50/50 to Jean on Yelan's Banner.

💯% Everything I know how to do came from experimenting. Tutorials will only get you basics/fundamentals or something very specific, but it is up to You the artist to interpret what you learn and apply it in different scenarios. Failure is the best teacher for 3D Art IMO.
Here to remind all new and learning 3D artists the only answer to most of your questions is time, patience and practice. In time you will learn what’s best for your style and flows. I can tell yea a I got here that way and hardly any tutorials cos there was not much at the start.
