Just happened to be at Elland Road today to see

dominated and the crowd was magic. And yeah, the American’s were damn good as well! Here is the second goal off the set-piece.

👀 Some personal news to share 👀
After an amazing eight-plus years, I have transitioned from
@upfrontvc
and today joined consumer-focused TCG (Chernin Group) as a Partner and will continue to work out of Los Angeles.
#LongLA
Well. For a non blue check this take blew up. And I 100% stand behind it. FTR I posted this before game got out of hand and obviously the play on pitch was worse than the Hamptons look of the broadcast crew. 99% of people with real jobs couldn’t wear these clothes to work.
I am excited to give the play-by-play of TCG’s new strategic investment in Unrivaled Sports, a multi-sport platform for premium youth sports experiences. This one is right down the middle of the strike zone for us.
I am thrilled about my new role and pinching myself that I have the chance to help build upon an amazing platform alongside
@PeterChernin
,
@MKerns
, Jesse Jacobs,
@Luke_Beatty
,
@MaureenS9
while partnering w/ the other 50+ TCG team members in LA, SF and NYC.
The chance to join TCG ($1.3B fund) right now is a unique one. Our focus is ~100% on multi-stage consumer investing at the intersections of brands, community, commerce, culture, sports and storytelling. Each area I love and have had success w/ as both an operator and investor.
PayPal paid $275M for Happy Returns just 2.5 years ago - when the investment world was a different place. Doesn’t sound too bad for either party or the founders and management.
Follow up to the news earlier this week that PayPal was selling Happy Returns to $UPS for an undisclosed amount.
We are now told in $PYPL earnings call that the price tag was $465 Million in cash--meaningfully higher than the acquisition price.
A huge positive outcome! 📦📦📦
🙏🙏 I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work directly w/ dozens of companies, founders and teams on the early-stage venture side
@upfrontvc

Had my first colonoscopy today.
Honestly, have been dreading and putting off for years. It’s all true. Prep sucks (like being forced to drink warm Rumple Minze and dealing w/ consequences). But the procedure is pretty easy.
If you are in LA and a need a referral, I have one.

What Upfront has built here in

is greatly unappreciated. While it's a privilege to be an investor, it's more competitive and difficult than anyone is willing to admit. Regardless, I wouldn’t be where I am today without Mark (and Yves) and for that, I am forever grateful."

“There is no one more dedicated or loyal that is working for the benefit of partners, entrepreneurs, LPs and LA tech ecosystem than Mark. You can argue about style or even results, but the reality is building and growing a firm in a historically unappreciated market is damn hard.
The Chernin Group is one of the most exciting funds in the world.
There are very few funds that understand the power of niches, the future of media, and consumer better than TCG.

In addition to its global core business, Classic Football Shirts has one of the largest known football shirt archives in the world. The incredibly unique “Vault” as it is known, possesses over 6,500 unique or match-worn jerseys that have never been made available for public sale.
Chernin has invested $38 million into Classic Football Shirts, a Manchester-based soccer jersey retailer.
The company’s vault of game-worn and rare jerseys is one of the largest on the planet.
The USA represents just 15% of current sales for Classic Football Shirts, but it's the fastest-growing market. Maybe the largest opportunity with what competitions are coming? 2024 CONMEBOL Copa America. 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. 2026 FIFA World Cup. 2028 Olympics in

I am thrilled to announce TCG’s growth equity investment in Classic Football Shirts, the global destination for all things football shirts (soccer jerseys). Based in Manchester UK, CFS has largest collection of authentic club and country products for sale anywhere in the world.

TCG's investment will help expand the Classic Football Shirt audience, assortment, brand and aggressively move into new geographies like the US (both online and via retail) including the opening of a new store today in NYC on Canal Street with more to come starting with LA soon.
Football shirts could be the next sneakers, showing similar global and market characteristics to when GOAT launched nine years ago. CFS's social following of >2 million on Instagram, TikTok, Twitter and YouTube indicates the level of audience and excitement they have amassed.
Here’s a

PE firm The Chernin Group invested over $35M in Classic Football Shirts. It’s the first outside investment CFS has received since its inception in 2006.

Ben. If you would have reached out to me in regards to this profile, which seems logical considering I was a partner of Mark's for over eight years at Upfront, you were working on the story for months and we know each other fairly well, I would have told you the following:
@micahjay1
It was great while it lasted. One of the most sudden drops in service levels I have seen from a premium consumer service business. Has to be a mix of huge subscriber growth, inability or unwillingness to hire more people and no additional TSA resources to service all travelers.
Congrats to the

Currently, averaging about one spam call to phone per hour. Has really picked up over the last 10 days. Anyone else seeing this happen? I use

There may not be many of them, but know what it costs to be a hardcore Los Angeles sports TV content consumer? ~$3,000/year!
Now, we can add another $500/year if looking to replace ESPN w/ Spectrum Cable removal. Not to mention the crappy experience of toggling between providers.
@MidwestGolfJake
Cancel your tee time and hotel reservations. I will take the spot. It’s March and the fees and dramatically reduced vs spring, summer and fall. Be better.
I'm biased as a Brentwood School and a 49ers fan but I think of Brock Purdy! Most importantly, last Friday Boone stepped up in leading the Eagles to a 43-24 comeback win over rival Palisades High (after being down 24-14 at halftime). A school with 5x as many students. Big fan.
Live video shopping works in the US for collectibles as the demand side hasn't been as expensive to acquire and the engagement is compelling. The cost effective aggregation of intent based demand just hasn't been there for much else.
