PWD-UNFRIENDLY PHILIPPINES Part ∞ Impossible to navigate sidewalks while on crtuches; hit my head & tripped serveral times. In the MRT, staff kept asking me to give my seat because I’m not visibly injured—so I made a big sign telling people I just got surgery & need to sit 🫠

In Taiwan, I even had to be on wheelchair! But the big difference—the ABUNDANCE of wheelchair infrastructure in Taiwan! My ankle healed WAY faster because I did not have to suffer in crutches & navigating Taipei was relatively easy; LIGHTYEARS ahead of the PH

OH, may mga “don’t buy your story”: 1.) I had surgery back in May 7 since I fractured my foot in Taiwan 2.) They placed a titanium plate in my ankle + a screw. Screw was removed through minor surgery last Jun 29 3.) Yes, I already have a PWD bc was diagnosed w/ major depression

To be fair, Taiwan has had over 300 cases of mpox since last year. I can’t say much about awareness programs and mitigation done by government, maybe because of the language barrier. No such thing as banning or lockdown or singling out the 🏳️‍🌈 community.

I’ve been on crutches for 2 days now due to ankle injury, & had a hard time getting on the bus. I sat down & realized too late I forgot to pay. An a-ma (👵)saw this & got up (despite her weak knee) to swipe my card. Such small gestures help me feel a little less pain each time 🥹
