And this is one of the main reasons that women "say nothing" and "put up with" creepy men sitting next to them because they fear what will happen if they say anything or move. Can't go upsetting men. Their behaviour is too unpredictable. We learn this from an early age.
@addicted2newz
@jk_rowling
I wonder how old the student is? His ability to read aloud with fluency and meaning and then go on to understand what's been written seems woefully weak. This, l guess, is why students simply repeat what they've been told. It's a fascinating few minutes.
@thinkx
@Kirsty_Hulse
Yes - far too many "man-children" around. I always thought travellers were required 'legally' to sit in their allocated seats so crew and airline know who's where in case of emergency.
Can't help but notice the number of men who are very concerned about transwomen's "rights" vastly outweighs the number who speak up for transmen. I wonder why that is?
Claire Balding putting significant emphasis on the word "women" (women in sport, women's sport) several times when speaking about her CBE. Interesting.
@NeoUnrealist
@Riley_Gaines_
I understand why you're saying this. It's often suggested. But why should these young girls be responsible? Where are the adults, the coaches, the athletics federations. Girls/women are yet again expected to take the flack for boys'/men's actions. It's unfair and it's cheating.
@MartinSLewis
No. I'm from the era when we actively stopped putting Miss/Mrs (as well as Mr, Esq) when writing and signing correspondence in favour of the more modern and equitable Firstname Surname. I'm not going to go half a century backwards.
Listening to a young man who's transitioning on BBCRadio4. He now takes more care of himself. Chooses his clothes more carefully, has a skin care regime, takes more photos of himself. Are those actions for women only?
Who knows what trauma this woman may have experienced in the past? Why was male GP blind to her distress? Friend understandably furious. Women need compassionate healthcare every time. /End
@MissUniverse
Never thought I'd live in a time when it was taboo to say the words "woman" and "female". "Listen* to what you are saying, it doesn't make sense.
@Telegraph
@CCriadoPerez
Because women are rarely listened to by the medical profession, whether that professional is male or female. As women we are very "tuned in" to our bodies. We know when something's not right, but we're treated as hysterical. We have only so much energy to stand up for ourselves.
Missed this in yesterday's
@thetimes
and curiously it doesn't come up on a Web or App search. Maybe l should search on Man Shortlisted For Women's Prize???
Chatting with girlfriend, an admin person at local GP practice. Last week she was asked to chaperone vaginal exam carried out by male GP. Woman, in her 50-60s, visibly terrified. Nearly hyperventilating, shaking, sweating. Friend not "supposed" to touch patient. /1
Oh F-off. Alexandra is planning to return to a career in finance. ... it's not going to be easy ... she may be ... the very woman to ring real changes. No-one does woman as well as a man 🙄😶
You can't make these things up. Friend who follows ice-skating sent me TikTok of opening of European figure skating championships in Finland. Shows a 50 yr MtF, took up skating 2 yrs ago. Had special spot in ceremony, but fell and couldn’t get up again.
@LunarLemonade
@ReduxxMag
The more you watch it, the more ridiculous he becomes. His "jumps" are "hops" and his posture simply shocking. If he wants to learn ballet, fine, but let's not fawn over his inability.
she had no idea lesbians are expected to include trans women in their dating pool. She knows now, though. Even reasonably well informed people don't understand how destructive this ideology is. 2/2

@SECAmb_Pride
Great - do we see ambulances wrapped for other "groups" - pregnant women, disabled folk, the elderly, the mentally ill. Why are LGBTQ+ singled out? You're not being inclusive. You're being exclusive. No problem with that, per se, but let's have some equality.
Young man tells me that a friend's mother (in her 50s) has just discovered that "Chix with Dix" are a thing. She's incandescent. She doesn't follow any social media. Doesn't work. How many more woman are in "blissful" ignorance. Important to reach them.
A fascinating read from Jan Morris's daughter. "Now I have read more of Jan’s books, I have come to the conclusion that, other than the portrayal of place, all her accounts are pretty much fantasy.:
@jojo_garden
@100_born
I'm so sorry. There's a reason men and women have different sex hormones. This is not your daughter's fault but those who, knowing better, aided and abetted her. The law suits will be tumbling in soon.
@Femi_Sorry
That's cos you ain't got no skin in the game, mate. How might the birthing vessel who brought you into the world react? And how about the menstrator who gave your chest feeder life?
Chatting to a girlfriend this morning. Retired lawyer and judge. She's aware of the sports and lavatory debates, girls having masectomies, yrans widows. For someone who's following from the sidelines she's well informed, but 1/2
Today l sat with 3 other women for lunch. Our ages were 75. 65, 55 and 45 (genuine coincidence!). Every one of us felt that in terms if progress for women we are going backwards. What is happening? How has this happened? We must stop being nice.
@lascapigliata8
@Schereeya
I think not.🥺 I do, however, feel it's very important to check pronouns daily. It's part of our breakfast routine at home. I include the cats, too, of course because they are family and have an equal voice. I'm surprised how few people do, though.
A friend bought me a "black rose" for my birthday and this is the first flower. The petals are like velvet and it's getting darker each day. She's visiting me tomorrow so I'm delighted she'll be able to see it.
After exam, woman still shaking, sweating. Friend asks if she'd like a hug. "Yes please." Later Dr emails (!) friend to thank her for helping. Next week woman returns, sees female GP who tells my friend that woman SO grateful for friend's support. /3

"There are clearly anatomical boundaries when it comes to trans women but these are problems that I believe can be surmounted and the transplant into a trans-female is essentially identical to that of a cis-female.”
No words!
Today's lunchtime discussion. Companion's friend has 2 daughters 16 and 21. 16 yr old and her friends "obsessed" with identity - are they trans, bi, queer, etc? Never had this discussion with 21 yr old. "All of this has happened in 5 years and she's very frightened." We all are.
@sarahstuartxx
God love him! Questions? Terrifying things. I've been on the receiving end of many myself. On the plus side, he's no longer an NHS Doctor. That's hot to be a good thing for us all.

There are always people missed out of "lists". What's more concerning is the people, men, who seem to have slipped in by mistake. Of course, women are used to being marginalised but it's disingenuous to have a list of 100 women and include only 96.
@DrRosena
Excuse me - "It's their *right* to self identify". Really? And how exactly does that affect everyone else's rights? And where does self-identify begin and end? Luckily, I'm not a Labour member so you can't

She asks woman if she'd like her to hold her hand. Woman says "Yes". Friend says she's never had hand held so tightly. Dr says "Put your heels together and assume the position." Woman freezes. My friend explains. No explanation from Dr about what will happen, to say if hurts. /2
@Rebeccasaysno
Excellent. It seems this is phasing out just as I've decided what to say if someone asks me my preferred pronouns: "I don't have preferred pronouns". Why didn't l think of that simple answer before?
Watching

I don't believe women of my generation shaved or waxed the whole of their public hair. Having a bikini line done was quite novel and cutting edge (pun not intended). Is this porn/religion inspired?

Second time was stranger. At a business exhibition. Door marked M/F/Disabled. Went in. A queue. Row of cubicles some M some F some M/F some M/F/D. No-one speaking. Heads bowed. Awkward. See an F empty. Man in front of me. Do l queue jump? All ages, no-one happy.

Joyce, they're men. Pure and simple. They're not even hiding that fact. Male emails and not turning on cameras, etc. You'll have to be tough. I recently did a speed awareness course. One bloke didn't abide by the rules, and he was shut off. The rest of us welcomed that.
@JamieFookes1
James - sounds to me as if you might not have been around during the time of s28 and HIV/Aids. Had you been, you'd know exactly where those who set up LGBA were. Campaigning, supporting. That kind of thing.

I'm straight. I don't go round introducing myself with my sexuality. Why should anyone else. I usually call my husband my partner. I've gay and lesbian friends. I've friends of other nationalities and religions. They're all people whose company l enjoy. Simple.

@Openly
Could you show us the transmen who are reaching the top, too. There seems to be a real equality gap for trans people. I'm at a loss as to why this isn't sending out alarm bells to the trans community.
@glumirror
I never understand how strong, often feminist women, bring up misogynistic men. Group think/bonding seems to override nurture. I don't believe for a moment it's the women's fault.

First time l used one, l didn't realise. Neither did the man who came in immediately after me. We both looked a bit puzzled, wondering which one of us was in the wrong place. Odd feeling.

Yes. Research has shown girls are asked to do household chores to be "good girls / helpful". Boys get paid to do these. Any wonder there's a pay gap?! We give entirely different messages on how value is judged/rewarded. Worse, girls ostracise girls who break away from the norm.
Just a thought. If, instead of "identifying as" as "Self-ID-ing", we said " Pretending to be" would that help some men understand that men cannot be or become women?
@OkBiology
Another cake, cream, jam, icing and a cherry on top.
As a born female who's never wanted children - simply don't fancy the idea of being pregnant - l find it difficult to understand how someone who wishes to identify as male would want to do something that only women can.
I've supported the

I was recently in conversation with a couple of American academics. The subject of geography came up. "Oh, there's no such thing as geography in America. It's not something that's studied at any level." They were serious.
That explains a lot. A lot.
You'll recall my OH recently received a work email signed "Sue Smith (she/her)" and responded "Dear SS (she/her)". Emboldened by his new wokeness he's considering volunteering his own pronouns. He feels, however, that ze/zim is a little too conventional. Suggestions welcome.
@uracontra_
I never wanted to be one of those people who says "it wasn't like this in my day" but you know what, it blooming well wasn't. Maybe that's because l was born within a decade of the Holocaust and it was real and raw in people's minds. These kids need to put down their devices.
@VictoriaPeckham
OK, let me get this right. This is a surgeon who, by posting a patient's "child like" drawing, is signalling that he's proud of mutilating healthy young bodies.
Mmmmm. Very troubling. (Kerching. I smell £€£_$£££€€$$)
@fairplaywomen
@dstlmod
Of course they have. No-one celebrates all that's best in a woman than a bloke. Honestly don't know how that officer can stand there grinning. Tbh, right now, not sure whether to laugh or cry, so getting angry instead. It's what keeps me going.

I know! I'm not into writing threads, but this has been on my mind and l needed to get it out of my head. My friend couldn't believe the GPs language: "Assume the position". And when we're at our most vulnerable it can be difficult for even the toughest to stand up for ourselves
Today someone I've known for years through business connects with me out of the blue. She follows me on this account, but doesn't know it's me. It gave us the opportunity to share concerns. She tells me: "I don’t use the term ‘women’ anymore - only female. .... /1
@sidewayssIeeper
Came across this calculation a while ago on Min, Max dating age: (it works!)
1) Minimum age: half your age, add 7
2) Maximum age: take 7 from your age and double it
Take a 20 yr old = (1) 17, (2) 26
A 26 yr old = (1) 20, (2) 38
If you are 14:
Min age 14
Max age 14
... or try to, and I won’t be bullied into pronouns or the other nonsense that belittles my sex." Looking forward to having a more in-depth conversation in a couple of weeks. /End

WOW, Vicky. Bookmarked in case l should ever need to write something along these lines. You've said it so eloquently and passionately. But this isn't something we should ever have to write.

When he's dancing and prancing around, he's just a joke ... but this ... THIS is a different thing altogether. This guy is a menace. A level of creepiness that's hard to express. I'm sure a psychiatrist would have a word for him/it, though.
@jo_bartosch
2015 was a turning point for me in that l knew "something" wasn't right in the world of Diversity & Inclusion. Women's issues were getting sidelined. In 2018 the fog lifted and it was clear what was happening, but l do think there are cracks in the wall.
Just had devastating news. 20yr old daughter of friend just died. She was due to have a very large, benign brain tumour removed in 10hr operation after graduation this year. She'd been epilepsy free for 2 years, just got back her driving licence. All going well. So sad. 💔

When my 93yr old late MIL suddenly became incapacitated we had social care services for 10 days. Intimate care often done by young men. I didn't think l could complain and too much going on. I regret that now. She used to shut her eyes. She deserved dignity in her last days.
