Attorneys, scholars will have better analyses on Kennedy v. Bremerton. But I grew up in a conservative town where Christianity was regularly invoked in class, often to the disparagement of other faiths. And I remember well the ostracization + discomfort I felt as a Hindu student.

A conversation that needs to be had- one that I think these takes frequently gloss over- is that racism and anti-blackness run deep in the South Asian community. A lot of Indian-Americans are not going to claim her because she’s half black, which will impact their turnout.

Low level offenses are moneymakers for local jurisdictions, forcing cyclic payment of fines, court fees, etc. Overworked public defenders can’t adequately help, and many folks will serve jail time when they can’t make bail. It’s a system criminalizing poverty + mental illness.
