Can we all set aside our partisan differences and join in mourning the death of Dick Weiland, one of Cincinnati’s greatest philanthropists and political geniuses? Died today but can never be forgotten.
Election Bill passed the House floor today. We've taken steps to ensure there will be fair and open elections for Ohioans moving forward, including in-person voting options on Election Day. Gone are the days of confusing and frustrating elections. Common sense once again reigns.
@ismailforohio
We refused to entertain this ridiculous amendment because it would bring shame on the House and the Republicans that would have voted for it. Very disrespectful to our Jewish and Muslim members.
@QasimRashid
@DavidPepper
I do not know why they voted as they did but Eli Lilly sells insulin for $35/ month regardless of insurance status. So maybe the bill is unnecessary. Free markets do work. Try it sometime, libs!
I look forward to working alongside
@SpeakerCupp
in the 134th General Assembly. The House has a lot of work ahead of us and we can best serve Ohioans by working together.
I am honored to have the endorsement of Majority Floor Leader Bill Seitz
@CincySeitz
for my re-election as a Speaker of the House! We all must work together to advance policies to help Ohioans.
@brigidekelly
@DavidPepper
Doug was a fine man. He will be missed. My advice is that everyone who can get vaccinated should get vaccinated. The long term consequences may still be unknown but the short term consequences of unvaccinated can be deadly.
@FrankLaRose
@ohiogop
@weingart2022
Thanks Frank for sharing this shocking video. Over 80 percent of voters agree that non-citizens have no business voting in any federal state or local election. Obviously, some extremist Democrats disagree but that is why we put Issue 2 on the ballot. All about saving democracy!
Nice to see such uplifting rhetoric from Whaley and Cranley! Let's hear another hollow cry from them for civility in politics. At least Cranley had the grace to call and apologize, which is more than can be said for Nasty Nan. Their sophomoric antics only show why neither is...
Mr. Crossman obviously misunderstands the office he now seeks. The AG must defend laws passed by the Legislature even if he personally disagrees with them. If Crossman doesn’t understand that, he probably should have stayed in the Legislature.
If elected, I will halt Yost’s attempt to reinstate Ohio’s six week abortion ban.
Ohio has a clear choice this November.
It’s a choice between
@DaveYostOH
and his unrelenting crusade against women, or someone willing to stand up for Ohioans.
.
@OHHouseDems
claim their priority bills haven't seen the light of day. However our caucuses have worked together on the priorities
@EmiliaSykesOH
identified and the House has delivered. The Majority will not be bullied into passing resolutions that haven't received a hearing yet
For those haters on Twitter who called me a conspiracy theorist for observing that the Paul Pelosi attacker was an illegal alien, maybe you will believe me now that the Washington Post itself has confirmed my accuracy, .

For over a year, we have endured Mr. Pepper’s endless whines that pro-Republican gerrymandering is the root of Democrats’ problems in Ohio. Yesterday’s election results conclusively prove what an utterly false tired trope that is. Republicans won every statewide office.
1/
@DerekMerrin
@jasoncstephens
Only two problems here, Rep Merrin. First, all signatures on a discharge petition must be witnessed by the House Clerk and these were not. Second, a motion to suspend the Rules requires a two thirds vote and the signatures you have are woefully short of that number.
Yesterday,
@GovMikeDeWine
signed legislation into law that invests $555 million in Ohio schools, communities and infrastructure. Senate Bill 4 also included two important amendments that will further assist Ohio’s coronavirus response.
@DavidPepper
Not nuts at all. We have an election to run. This court charade has gone on long enough. Red wave coming and GOP supermajority will be retained.
@CincySeitz
LaRose consistently lied that he couldn’t expand them without legislative approval.
He was clearly trying to play both sides.
We proved that to be wrong either very judge who looked at it.
You’re a lawyer, Bill. That’s not “semantics”
@Russo4Ohio
@VP
@DavidPepper
Sorry Madame VP fell for the left’s false propaganda. Ohio elections are run by county boards, each of which have 2 R’s and 2 D’s as members.
1/
Your narrative misses three critical points. First, the federal 6th Circuit Court of Appeals validated LaRose’s position in October 2020. Second, the General Assembly passed a law effective December 2020 that only the legislature can determine the time, place, and manner of an…
As we fight to protect democracy, do not let lies go unrebutted.
Don’t let history get re-written.
Don’t let vote suppressors spread propaganda without setting the record straight.
Don’t normalize bad behavior.
The stakes are too great.
@DavidPepper
Now I know it’s been a tough night for all you libs. Pour yourself a glass of warm milk and you will sleep better . The game is over and you lost.
It’s a pity that Partisan Pepper is so pompous that he disparages my legislation: “The less he legislates (since it’s not for his constituents or the public good of Ohio) the better.”
1/
@NEWSMAX
This verdict could never stand in Ohio. Nearly 20 years ago we legislators capped punitive damages as a low multiple of actual ones. We also allowed appeals of runaway verdicts without requiring the posting of a huge bond. Too bad liberal NY didn’t follow suit.
Every statewide Supreme Court race. The statewide US Senate race. By definition, statewide races cannot be the result of “gerrymandering.” Perhaps Pepper will now realize that his year-long misinformation message was utterly wrong. But I somehow doubt it.
2/
@BrianStewartOH
I’d note that the child care bill Stewart opposed was supported by a majority of House R’s and is already law in 26 other states including AR, MT UT and WV.
@ChairmanAlex
@HamCoGOP
Well deserved victory, Chairman Alex T!! Green Township is monolithically Republican and will crush all opponents foreign and domestic. Don’t mess with us.
@joingles
All violence and all vandalism should be fully prosecuted no matter by whom committed. That is why we passed HB 109 and why our Senate should agree with this bill.
@DavidPepper
Well, Dave, if we go back to David Pepper 2022, whatever 4 judges on the Supreme Court said was gospel truth. Now that the worm has turned, you disparage the 4 Justice majority.
If you want to stop the argument, stop tweeting. If I didn't think black lives matter, I wouldn't have engaged you. I am pointing to real bills with real laws that will help. You are fixated on a non-binding resolution that is purely symbolic.
This is not to excuse what Pelosi’s attacker did but it is to underscore the folly of California’s sanctuary state policies that interfere with the deportation of illegal aliens.

election, thus tying LaRose’s hands. Third, LaRose correctly perceives that any expansion of drop boxes that he proposes would be invalidated immediately by the General Assembly.
@DerekMerrin
@jasoncstephens
Your “motion” still required far more support than the 29 who signed it. And if signatures “weren’t even required” why did you solicit them?
This morning, their legislative counsel advised me and my joint co-sponsor of the Ohio election bill: “Thank you both so much. You are amazing champions. I am forever grateful.”
2/
@darreldrowland
@joingles
Maybe he was wondering why DePape, an illegal alien, is still in California given his long criminal record. Oh that’s right. SF is a sanctuary city.
It’s the state’s obligation to serve as a good partner to our local communities. Senate Bill 4, along with these two amendments, display our commitment to working together with our local governments so Ohio can effectively combat the coronavirus pandemic.
@RepWeinstein
Michigan Pennsylvania Indiana Kentucky and Biden’s Delaware offer no grace period at all. All AVs must be in by Election Day in those states.
@matthuffman1
I join in your sentiments, Senator! I would only add a line from Willie Nelson: live every day like it might be your last, and one day your gonna be right.
@darreldrowland
Darrell, I have seen about 4 of your posts on this. My question: if our Supreme Court swats this down , will you give equal coverage on an objective basis to why they did?
The second amendment allows cities and townships to use up to 25% of their unencumbered and unobligated TIF funds to pay for first responders and road maintenance employees. By allowing local governments to use these funds, we can keep these important personnel on the job.
@BartolettaRoman
@DavidPepper
Not scared in the least. Every statewide official is a Republican. Trump won Ohio twice by more than 8 points. Those are statewide elections. No “gerrymander “.
@KeithFaber
I join my many great colleagues in mourning the passing of Bill Batchelder. We never disagreed and he was a titan of conservative thought. We owe it to him to stop this lawless activist Supreme Court from ruining our elections. The Red Wave that is coming will be a great tribute
Proud of the Ohio House for passing HB 263, the Fresh Start bill, last week.
It’s not right that Ohioans who’ve committed non-violent, non-sexual crimes are oftentimes barred by licensing bodies from receiving the occupational licenses they need to get jobs.
@karenkasler
@FrankLaRose
@DaveYostOH
Important missing context, Karen, is that at least 2 races for US House were decided by less than 20 votes. So vigilance is appropriate in all such cases.
@dtoneil
You do realize that a full repeal of HB 6 would resurrect the renewable energy mandates and the Strickland era energy efficiency mandates which would cost ratepayers over $2 billion , don’t you? Or are you that oblivious to the facts?
@ohiomatt
You are an uninformed fool. The Fordham Foundation— one of the most conservative education think tanks— just editorialized that this is an idea worth pursuing
Cleves is not in Cincinnati, David. And where is your outrage that this map draws Rep Abrams into My District for no obvious reason other than your own partisan D advantage? Or are we only allowed to cry about Rep Miranda?
@DerekMerrin
@ronfergusonohio
It is remarkable that allegedly conservative Republicans would join the war on coal. Particularly stupid given signals from FERC and PJM that baseload power plants are retiring too fast. Happy brownouts, guys!
@HouseholderOH
wants businesses across Ohio to know that
@OHTaskForce2020
wants to hear their voices. The OHIO 2020 Economic Recovery Task Force is seeking input from small businesses across the state and listening to their stories.
@ronfergusonohio
@DerekMerrin
Totally false. Decreasing the power demand curve through voluntary efficiency programs and retaining the supply curve thru all baseload plants is the answer. You aren’t on the committee so you don’t get it.
@AndrewJTobias
@jpelzer
You are more likely to see pink unicorns and pots of gold at rainbow’s end than you are to see an “ independent commission”. Who picks them and who advises them Re- injects politics into a political exercise.
@darreldrowland
Why not ask the Ds about their House map for Hamilton County that gives them 86 percent of the 7 seats when the County is only 56 percent D? Proportionality my ass.
@BrianStewartOH
Brian your facts are incorrect. As I pointed out yesterday, zero dollars were allocated from this pot of money to either my district or Rep Abrams’ district and the two of us are painted by you as part of the Blue 22. We do believe in the greater good though so we voted yes.
@RepWeinstein
@DavidPepper
Better check your newsfeed Weinstein. The coal plants are now returning credits on Ohio ratepayers bills. Germany is rushing to reopen their coal plants and China never quit building them.
@jbalmert
My hope is that lines will be redrawn based on last year’s erudite dissenting votes, now that the dissenters are in the majority. After all, don’t the leftists believe we should follow the rule of law?
Hats off to the U.S. Supreme Court for vindicating Arizona’s voting laws. This ruling portends clear sailing for our Ohio Election Modernization and Security bill that we will take up again this fall. Election integrity is as important as election convenience, as our
@DavidPepper
- your tweet about 2020 court decisions re drop boxes and online applications overlook that those decisions were made irrelevant by HB 272, effective December 16th, 2020. That bill says that only the legislature determines the time, place, and manner of any
The fact that I only know about this because of a news story and office gossip is completely outrageous. No notice from House Admin or the Speaker to our Dem staff. No worker in any setting should ever be treated with this much disregard for safety.
@MorganTrau
@DavidPepper
@WEWS
@WCPO
@OhioCapJournal
Let me offer a prediction which I do not often do. All these scrums will be reconciled and a great bill or bills will be passed. Just a matter of time. I know and like both leaders and they and we will get it done. We don’t need the drama.
The first amendment eliminates competitive bidding requirements for counties, townships, and municipalities for personal protective equipment. This gives our local governments the freedom and flexibility to quickly purchase PPE as needed.
@StatehouseGhost
The last 3 commenters are correct— I am term limited. I am also not fighting with Rep Cross. Another stupid Ghost post with no fact basis.
This is simply not true.
The House aide identified by
@JessicaEMiranda
was in fact given the option to WFH.
It was later determined this individual had not had close contact with an individual who tested positive for COVID-19.
My Aide was sent home abruptly He was put on leave w/o the WFH option leaving the
#Great28
’s over 121,000 constituents hanging.
Long story short, they had the wrong Tom. Wasn’t even in the realm of coincidence. The lack of leadership from the majority party is appalling. 👇👇👇
@darreldrowland
Best news of the week. Now we get the NEW Supreme Court to weigh in and hopefully eradicate all the ridiculous decisions from the Maureen O Connor Court
@DavidPepper
The decision will stand because it is a logistical impossibility to have any other map by August 2 and also impossible to have a primary after August 2. Just ask the bipartisan Ohio Assn of Election Officials.
@Ralph__King
@jake_zuckerman
Our Hamilton County Party was way smarter than you clowns. Censure motion was defeated 3-1. You all have only succeeded in making yourselves irrelevant and Cuyahoga County more blue.
Racism is a moral failing. I generally think that non-binding resolutions are eyewash and prefer to deal with real bills that make real differences for Ohioans.
@DavidPepper
That is the beauty of America. People are free to move to where they feel comfortable. Even to California Oregon and New York where they will be overtaxed and overregulated. Have at it!!
An example would be House Bill 263 that removes barriers to occupational licenses for previously convicted persons who have not reoffended in the last five years. Passed committee unanimously. I look forward to voting with you on this bill.
@darreldrowland
I think Rep Click’s main point was that when the new Supreme Court reverses the prior Court decisions on redistricting, will the Left be so solicitous of the new Court’s decisions?
@darreldrowland
I was subpoenaed. Fact. The bill saves ratepayers $2.3 billion over its life, per the Leg Service Commission. Fact. I didn’t need Householder money to get elected, unlike my “fan Club”. Fact
For those who have criminal pasts and want to re-enter society as contributing members should be able to do so. Nearly one in five Ohioans need an occupational license to work.
This bill prevents licensing boards from blanket restrictions when it comes to past convictions.
As someone with a Master in Public Health, one would think you would have more of an interest in ensuring these bills, co-sponsored by your fellow democratic members, become law.
@KatyAShanahan
Unfortunately for you, the Legislative Service Commission disagrees. LSC is the nonpartisan official arbiter of bill fiscal impacts and they concluded in June 2019 that scaling back these mandates would save ratepayers billions.
@DavidPepper
Yes that Court. His Dad’s vote matters not since the new maps are unanimously approved by all Rs and Ds on the commission. And you still haven’t answered my simple question about what is wrong with the Hamilton County map.
