We're extremely proud to announce that our very own Fiacre O’Donnell won the
@bitcni
George Dawson Award for Environmental Contribution yesterday 🥳
As Director of Sustainability for
@VidralaGroup
, Fiacre is a true inspiration to our whole workforce.
Congrats Fiacre! 🎉
Here’s a picture of the first streams of molten
#glass
coming out of our brand new 900 tonne per day furnace in Elton! Congratulations to everyone involved in the supply, build and operation of this fantastic world-leading asset!
This morning, we worked with
@DBCargoUK
, to successfully trial the use of a Hydro-Treated Vegetable Oil (HVO) fuel, to deliver sand to our Elton plant by rail. This development could reduce the carbon footprint of this part of our product’s supply chain by 98.7%! Fantastic work!
This is a monumental day for us and the container
#glasssector
as a whole. Today’s lighting of our 900 tonne furnace significantly increases our capability to meet market demand and supports our journey towards becoming the most sustainable beverage supply business in the world
Working with
@FuturesGlass
and
@beisgovuk
, we've created the world's most sustainable glass bottles🍾. Made from
#biofuel
and up to 100% recycled cullet! Truly game-changing results! ♻️
Big gob? Did you know this phrase originally comes from the glass trade? Glass blowers needed lots of breath to make a molten lump of glass – a ‘gob’ – take shape. Their cheeks blew out to push the air through, which is why someone with a big mouth is told they have a big gob.
What a night!
We took home the Sustainable Manufacturing category at the
@TheManufacturer

We've been awarded
@BITCNI
Responsible Business Awards winners 2022.
Our Sustainability Director, Fiacre O’Donnell said: "Being a responsible business isn’t a choice anymore - we all have an obligation to protect the planet."
See what else Fiacre has to say👇
"A tonne of freight transported by rail produces 76% fewer carbon emissions compared with road haulage."
Here Adrian Curry, our Managing Director, explains how the railhead at our Cheshire plant is crucial to creating an ultra-sustainable transport network for glass.
It’s our responsibility to protect our planet and oceans, ensuring they remain full of life and free from pollution. Using infinitely recyclable materials like glass helps reduce the amount of single-use plastic in our marine environments.

There may be 10 times as much
