@SpaceTurtleArt @Xxsethmonsterxx That used to be the case for food ads as well as other ads, but a number of countries passed laws to ban the practice in food advertising. There's still quite a bit of trickery, but the food in the ad is technically the actual food they are trying to get you to buy now.

@chronicleflask @thisishannahkim @nsharma101 Yeah, my mom had one like this. He ultimately cornered her in her office, threatened her, & campus security had to remove him. He was banned from campus, and then brought a *human rights complaint* against the school and my mom, claiming discrimination on the basis of disability.

And then came to my mom.

@ContraPoints On the one hand it does sort of grant a particular intellectual position (which many right-wing people disagree with) primacy, but on the other hand deliberate misgendering of trans people is almost entirely used as a means of harassment, not a mere expression of a belief.

I hate to be the historical pedant, but John Brown didn't just kidnap and murder random people in Kansas. He was pretty specific in his targets, and at every step in the Harper's Ferry raid OP is referencing attempted to avoid killing people. John Brown had actual morals.

@OrielleVanya @Kazel_93 @squinln The staff-person who set up my back account made a bigoted joke when I brought up the lack of neutral gender options on their form (this was shortly before I admitted to myself I was non-binary). I keep meaning to switch away. Probably will once my name change goes through.

@michaeljswalker Yep. People lie about us. A LOT. If you haven’t been engaged and a careful reader/listened to a lot of trans people, it can be hard to believe the scale of complete nonsense that gets put out there to smear us every day. I’m glad you’re starting to figure it out.

@whstancil Tbh Canadians actually have reasons to say the economy is kinda crap. We've been just on the edge of recession for a while, and our housing crisis is an order of magnitude worse and pretty universal. The indicators here are iffy. But that's us, not you.

@CartoonsHateHer @dissproportion Mine kept me far away from it because they didn't want to "medicalize" me, and that caused its own problems. Happy mediums. Always happy mediums.

@Hughsie28 @sgrif The problem I have sometimes is that Apple stuff is very much their way or the highway. I say that as someone who happily owns an iPhone and iPad. But I use Linux on desktop in particular because it’s a heck of a lot less opinionated, or at least there are alternate opinions.

@RealSexyCyborg @3DPProfessor @Fjoslarz A consistent frustration I have is that an observation of fact is often taken as a normative statement, a statement about how things should be, in part because a lot of people in the Anglosphere do use them that way.

@eigenrobot Soffit vents. They help air circulation in your attic, can prevent moisture build-up. Can help the roof last longer, apparently. There are likely some insulation downsides in the winter but they’re good other times of the year, when you want your attic cooler.

@halomancer1 Does he not realize that the bones are almost the last thing to stop changing? Tail end of puberty is pretty long.
