NEW: Residents of LMHA properties have been unknowingly living in buildings with lead paint for decades, despite federal disclosure requirements.
Now, LMHA is pushing residents to retroactively sign them — and has even threatened eviction if they refuse.
@baileymeyers
Chasm. I learned it while reading a book on vacation. We were driving around the coast of Oregon and I decided to flex my new vocab word when I said, “Wow, look at that chaz-em!” Haven’t been able to live it down since.
hey guess what!!!
in about a week I will be moving to D.C. to work at
@USATODAY
! I’ve been lucky enough to get a year-long fellowship with the fact-check team in the climate division.
basically, I’ll be finding climate misinformation, investigating and writing about it! whoop!
🚨 Dream job alert!!! 🚨
So unbelievably excited to announce that I will be returning to the
@courierjournal
as the Metro Government reporter.
While I’ve loved my time at
@USATODAY
, my heart has been pulling me back to Louisville and local news.
See you June 19th.
Got a request from a reader to give him a call. I was expecting to be yelled at.
Instead, he just wanted to know when my next story would be coming out.

If you know someone who needs a new phone, access to Wi-Fi or charging cables, T-Mobile is currently set up outside the
#WolfeCounty
high school shelter offering them for free. When asked if she wanted a phone, one older woman said, “Yes, I don’t have nothing left.”

I ran 8 miles today.
It was hard and I stopped for water a lot and my pace was slow.
But then my running app reminded me that a year ago today, I had just hit 4 miles for the first time since high school. 8 miles would have sounded unfathomable - and I’m so proud of myself. ❤️
It's my first day as the Metro Government reporter for the
@courierjournal
! I'm so excited to be back in this incredible city and newsroom.
Any tips? Reach out at EMcCrary

Today is my one year anniversary at the
@courierjournal
!
It’s been a year full of council meetings, interviews, investigations, deadlines, breaking news, collaboration, joy, stress and adrenaline.
Very lucky to be a part of this newsroom and to get to do this work.
at the beginning of summer i made a deal with myself - instead of getting an internship i would spend my time building my freelance business. today i got a job that quadruples my freelance income. after three years of working to earn more consistent work, i freaking did it.
So excited to say that as of yesterday, I have officially accepted an internship at the
@courierjournal
in Louisville, KY for this summer. I am so thrilled to be working with a newspaper in the
@USATODAY
and
@Gannett
network! Let’s do this.
🚨 Journalism internship news! 🚨
The Louisville, Ky.
@USATODAY
affiliate
@courierjournal
is looking for their next batch of summer interns and I can’t recommend it enough. The people there treated me like family, trusted me + helped me grow so much as a reporter. 🧵

Last night,
@byconnorgiffin
and I received 1st place in health reporting for our investigation into childhood lead exposure in Louisville.
Incredibly grateful to have had the time and space to delve into this topic. Thank you
@JFauGFX
and
@RobertJByers
for bringing it to life.
i will be requesting that in the re-hiring process
@Mizzou
continues to hire people who are representative of the centers they work for. i have seen that the firing is to get rid of “holistic identity-oriented” employees in favor of “task-oriented” ones.

Me 30 seconds before this: I hope I don’t get stuck in the elevator again
*proceeds to get stuck in the City Hall elevator with

Shoutout to the City Hall security guards for getting us out fast. 🤣
Had a friend from college come visit me a few weeks ago.
After the first couple of days here, she confessed to me that she was surprised and a little confused when I first told her I wanted to move back to Louisville.
“I get it now,” she said.
❤️
excited to announce that I’ve officially accepted the invitation to join the Walter Williams Scholars program in Mizzou’s School of Journalism ☺️ I can’t wait to be surrounded by other ambitious students who are passionate about journalism 💛
It was an honor to attend this year’s White House Press Correspondents’ Dinner as a
@whca
scholar. Cheers to press freedom, the First Amendment and all of the incredible journalists covering the White House - you are doing such important work for our country.
And 55 Bardstown Road lights.
Jokes aside, I’ve been on the phone with Mayor’s Office communications director Scottie Ellis. She said there was an error and that all 55 lights were supposed to be listed individually.
To my fellow LGBTQ+ students attending MU - I am investigating the experiences of queer students seeking healthcare at MU and around Missouri. If you or a friend have had any experiences you'd like to share with me, please DM me!
The couch saga continues.
Got a message this morning that my delivery was 10 minutes away.
5 minutes after that, I got a call that it’s been delayed another week.
When. Will. It. End. 😭
psa: it’s okay if the thing you love feels scary at times!! putting your whole heart into something is an act of courage, and sometimes that is REALLY HARD. it doesn’t mean that you don’t actually love what you do. in fact, it probably means that you love it with your whole being
So glad this issue is getting national attention - but I also wanted to give a shoutout to my girlfriend,
@marie_mac99
, a law student at the University of Mississippi who covered this story back in April for the
@OxfordEagle
.
Support local journalism! ❤️
There are only 32 full time public defenders in all of Mississippi. The result: Thousands of people who’d otherwise be free who are trapped incarcerated pretrial w/ no lawyer to argue for release.
Found out today that my blood helped save more than one life at Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton, Ky. ☺️
Donate! It’s free and can help your neighbors. ❤️
Me at the beginning of writing a story: Oh good! This one seems simple and like it shouldn’t take too long.
Me two days later: *has conducted numerous interviews and written over a thousand words to show the nuance of said “simple” story*
UPDATE: Piagentini has been found in violation of 6/7 of the ethics charges brought against him. He has been recommended for removal from Metro Council by the commission. Piagentini plans to fight this, he told media following the verdict.
Headed back to
#BreathittCounty
today. This is about 9 miles outside of Jackson, Ky. and from here the drive only got worse. Since yesterday evening, the main route into town has closed. Another area of highway has water covering one lane and is making its way onto the other.
to the woman who petitioned the whole security line at DCA to let me get in front when I accidentally went to the wrong terminal: I hope both sides of your pillow are cold every night and your skin is always clear and you make every flight you ever have.
BREAKING:
@GovAndyBeshear
says he will veto HB 18, the bill that would block local governments from adopting ordinances to ban source-of-income discrimination.
I have never started an interview feeling like I was talking to an old friend. That changed in 2022 when I talked to Nick about an internship for the
@courierjournal
.
I had to remind myself that I should probably get to my qualifications, but Nick was just so easy to talk to.
Cannot describe how excited I am for
@bloosemore
to be my editor.
She’s been someone I’ve looked up to since I was an intern at the CJ. Now, I’ll get to learn even more from her as one of her reporters.
Some news: Tomorrow is my last day as a reporter at the
@courierjournal
.
Starting Monday, I'll be the CJ's Government and Accountability Editor.
I've had so many opportunities here over the last 10 years, and I'm excited to get to keep growing in this newsroom. 1/
When I decided to major in journalism my dad was proud of me, but teared up because he was afraid for my safety in the future. I couldn’t understand why at the time.
We are so lucky
@byconnorgiffin
has decided to stick around at the
@courierjournal
.
Cheers to more excellent reporting, 3 p.m. coffees and long desk chats. 🕺🏻
A little personal update: After two years, my time as a reporter with
@Report4America
+
@AgWaterDesk
is at an end.
I'm staying at the
@CourierJournal
, where I'll continue to cover environment with the enterprise and investigations team.
We've all seen the photo.
On March 1, first responders acted quickly and bravely to rescue a semi truck driver dangling off Clark Memorial Bridge. That driver is alive today because of Bryce Carden’s heroic actions.
Thank you Bryce and

for your dedicated service.
