Re Strauss and Vaughan: Shroud waving is such a good sign that people are losing the argument. "Do what I say or else" Those who know 14 f-c games a season are possible must keep fighting for it. No weakening now, please. I hope you're enjoying the return of the Championship.

It's a lie and an insult to think those opposing the Strauss reforms don't care about England's success. We're keen as AS to see England win but ten CC games hinders this aim while harming the 18 counties. Awareness of English cricket's holistic health is absent.

"Attempts" is bang right. I walked through Taunton last evening and almost every conversation was about county cricket. I've just come up from breakfast and the talk on each table was of ties, pitches and Tres. Not bad for a format apparently dying on its arse.

15 counties are members clubs. The next week or so will be vital for those who want to express opinions in binding votes before changes are imposed upon them. Playing 14 CC games is perfectly feasible if the will is there and most CEOs / Chairs are reasonable people. Good luck.

Players at 12 counties now have 12 free days. Good, they need rest and you can't know the sides who'll progress in the RLODC. But this break comes after 8 List A games in 26 days. Surely it suggests there's more give in the schedule than the doctrinaire reductionists insist.
