Further to my previous tweet: referencing is choice and clearly a power relation. Much of what I’ve learned is due to senior scholars who add substantial notes to their texts that include ‘further reading’ - often quite telling if these don’t include Global South scholars, ECAs

In my ongoing, not-so-secret work of writing a sociology of academic profile pages, I’ve now come across two senior academics who mention their spouses on their academic profiles (not because they’ve worked together but just to, dunno, “authenticate” their research?).

Lots of caveats but you know what? It’s quite nice to wake up to election results and not feel utter dread and defeat/fear for your loved ones. Seeing Jacob Rees-Mogg lose his seat to someone who wrote a book analysing violence against social workers was not on my 2024 bingo card

(This is not about me) infuriating to see a reputable department in a reputable university advertise a permanent position after they let an ECR they dumped all their teaching on go and didn’t even tell them about this job coming up, let alone encourage to apply 🤬
