My beautiful 14 yo daughter has had ME for 3 yrs. It’s heartbreaking to watch her endure it with no support from drs & to deal with problems that no teenager should have to. I am in awe of her determination to reach her goals & to still see life’s positives.
#CloseToME
My darling daddy died last night. He was the OG and the best. He inspired so much I do and was so proud of me. It makes me even more determined to support all dads because they are so vital, so important. I can’t imagine a world without him in it. ❤️
I had the huge honour of speaking to Modern Wisdom about my research into fathers. A really in depth exploration of who dad is and why we need him. Take a look.
For those of us who have loved ones with ME this is our ultimate fear. That the lack of engagement by the medical profession will show itself even when they are our only hope. It is inhuman and should be a bigger scandal.
As

let’s commit to really get to know who these men are, how they want to father & recognise them as true players in the parenting journey. It’s time to bust the myths, recognise their unique role & work to support them.
What a decade 4 dads. From knowing nothing we know that the hormone & brain changes new dads undergo make them an instinctive parent = to mum. That dads have a unique input into their kids development and are the no 1 protector against poor mental health in their kids.

George should stick to what he knows which is quite clearly not the science of parenthood. Men are as biologically primed to parent as women & the bond with their children is just as powerful and vital. It’s time these myths stopped being perpetuated.
Hello you lovely lot! I need to pick your brains. I am thinking of writing a handbook for dads. What questions or advice would you like it to answer or give?? It will be completely dad centred and aim to tell you everything you need and want to know.
We’ve known for some time that dads have a unique role to play in the development of their pre school child. Now we know the same is true for primary school too.
#powerofdad
Today I have been married to this wonderful man for 20 years! He is my dad inspiration and the reason I started to research dads. Here he is doing what dads do best. Helping his kids gain independence and resilience. 🥰🥰
This is definitely my daughter’s experience. We need to understand the influence of female hormones and the menstrual cycle on ME. Her ME coincided with starting her periods and she would crash horribly every month.
Would anyone be willing to be interviewed via zoom for my new book on love? I need all genders who would be willing to talk to me about their friendships & any fellow dog people who would be willing to talk about dog love. These might even be the same relationship! 😍 🐶👫👭

Hello new followers! Thanks so much for your follow. More info about my work can be found at and if you are here for dad science it’s all in my book Life of Dad.
And this sort of scenario is precisely why I do my research. Dads are just as primed to parent as mums and just as competent. Why do we still have this stereotype? It is getting very wearing.

Dad: Called GP surgery this morning to check children’s vaccinations are upto date having read article on anti-vax.
Receptionist: Ok - has mum asked you to double check?
Dad: No, I’m capable of thinking for myself & prioritising my children’s best interests.

How you father is strongly influenced by your environment and work is the most common hindrance to being the dad you want to be. We need to offer the same parental rights to dads as well as mums and empower them to be hands on if that is their choice.

description of what love is in this article is spot on. The profound moment of realisation that It is life, it is the point, whoever you ❤️. It is at once so startlingly simple and so mind glowingly complex. I love it.
Clear evidence that dads want to be hands on and invest in their children. The onus is now upon us, society and government, to support them to do this. We need a radical change in culture and ring fenced, funded paternity leave.

It is so important that dads get to be fully involved in neonatal care as well as mums. Research shows that a hug from dad eases pain and reduces stress for premature babies.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there - biological, step, adoptive, social.... being a dad is not about genes but stepping up and dads do it magnificently!
Yes the BBC does have a science problem but so do all the channels. I have lost count of the number of meetings where an initial idea is dumbed down so far it bears no relation to what I entered the room with. There’s also a female presenter problem.
Today is International Fathers' Mental Health Day and to mark it here's my new blog on the importance of involved dads and how we need to support all parents regardless of gender.
‘I feel men are willing and wanting to be more involved as dads’
@samclaflin
you are so right, society & government just need to catch up & support them properly. Equal paternity leave would be a good start & would benefit baby, dad & society.
The secure attachments we strive to give our children are the foundation for all else that follows, lifelong. Be sensitive, be loving, give time and they will become sensitive, loving & resilient in turn.
Absolutely. Just like us babies are social beings and get huge developmental benefits - as well as lots of joy and fun - from engaging in a relationship with you. And it is a cuteness overload!
Did you know babies have wellbeing too?
Taking the time to tune in & respond to your baby can make a huge difference to their wellbeing & development!
We ❤️ this video of a dad babbling away to their baby. It might feel silly but it's their way of interacting with you!

Listening to the founder of the Father Project here in the US. “I have worked with 25000 dads in the last 20 years and all of them regardless of how the kid came to be wanted to be active in their kids’ lives”. Breaking the deadbeat stereotype.

Absolutely. Skin to skin allows the baby and dad to come into bio behavioural synchrony meaning their brain and bodies are completely in sync, calming both and developing a deep bond. It’s an incredibly powerful mechanism.

Wow it’s a good day for dad news today. So glad that they are fighting the fight for parental leave in the US as we are here. Only with shared leave do we get equality for men as parents and the increased chance of closing the gender pay gap for women.
Absolutely. And don’t forget you can begin bonding before birth too. Talk and sing to bump and try to imagine or day dream about your future with your baby. Visualise them. All this makes the bond after birth even stronger.
As the baby's father or other significant caregiver, here are some things you can do to help form an attachment with your baby as soon as they arrive.
1. Talk to your baby
2. Connect through skin-to-skin contact
3. Make eye contact

A question for my health visitor and midwife followers. Is it now routine (In non covid times) to send all antenatal invites to mum AND dad? And does dad have a space now on the postnatal health visit form? Thank you!
The evidence is there that when given the chance dads want to be hands on parents. Let’s hope this exceptional moment in time leads to a shift in our culture but we all need to get on board to demand that change.

I cannot emphasise enough how critical this is. For the man, his family and our society. Dads have a key role in child development and need to be supported fully in their role.

Dads are THE parent when it comes to influencing the ease with which their child transitions into preschool and for developing mental resilience in their teens and young adults. Dads scaffold their child’s entry into the world beyond the family.

Sometimes my work is misinterpreted but so many have grasped that it isn't denying the minority but celebrating the majority, those wonderful dads who scaffold our development & make us laugh.
And dads are the key parent to support their children’s good mental health by teaching them mental resilience, often through play. Dads have super powers.
