My beautiful 14 yo daughter has had ME for 3 yrs. It’s heartbreaking to watch her endure it with no support from drs & to deal with problems that no teenager should have to. I am in awe of her determination to reach her goals & to still see life’s positives. #CloseToME

As @katlay reports here in @thetimes , two more patients with Severe ME are at risk of starving to death in @NHSEngland hospitals. My daughter Maeve died with ME in 2021, it seems the NHS has learned nothing since. @SteveBarclay .

What a decade 4 dads. From knowing nothing we know that the hormone & brain changes new dads undergo make them an instinctive parent = to mum. That dads have a unique input into their kids development and are the no 1 protector against poor mental health in their kids. #dadpower

George should stick to what he knows which is quite clearly not the science of parenthood. Men are as biologically primed to parent as women & the bond with their children is just as powerful and vital. It’s time these myths stopped being perpetuated.

Yes the BBC does have a science problem but so do all the channels. I have lost count of the number of meetings where an initial idea is dumbed down so far it bears no relation to what I entered the room with. There’s also a female presenter problem.

Absolutely. Skin to skin allows the baby and dad to come into bio behavioural synchrony meaning their brain and bodies are completely in sync, calming both and developing a deep bond. It’s an incredibly powerful mechanism.

Wow it’s a good day for dad news today. So glad that they are fighting the fight for parental leave in the US as we are here. Only with shared leave do we get equality for men as parents and the increased chance of closing the gender pay gap for women.

Absolutely. And don’t forget you can begin bonding before birth too. Talk and sing to bump and try to imagine or day dream about your future with your baby. Visualise them. All this makes the bond after birth even stronger.

This is an unbelievably valuable piece of research which shows, as we expected, that both men and women can suffer PTSD following a traumatic birth. Both my husband and I experienced a traumatic birth, only I was offered support. This has to change.

The BMJ has reported on a case of male postpartum psychosis. The fact that men can experience this severe form of PND makes it even more clear why we MUST diagnose & support these dads. This is a real phenomenon, time to take it seriously.

Isn't this the most beautiful image! Not quite what it seems however. It is a real MRI image of mother and baby. In fact, neuroscientist Rebecca Saxe from MIT who worked to create this image, is also the mother in it, curled up inside the tube with her infant son.
