Litigator by day, cinephile/pop culture nerd by night. Not your lawyer. Sylvia’s dad. Views != employer’s. Jumps btw Law Twt, Film Twt, & Cat Twt. 日本語OK. He/him
Both. On that note, if you liked Twin Peaks: The Return & The Curse, I HIGHLY recommend Paranoia Agent. Film Twitter never considers anime “TV,” yet Satoshi Kon’s masterpiece made me feel the same dread. It totally fits in the same box, despite being made almost two decades ago.
Is The Curse really that good or is Twin Peaks: The Return the only piece of tv that people have seen that is even remotely challenging and that gets referenced every time a film/tv show that does something slightly different?
A24 simps are incredibly annoying, but don’t let that distract you from the fact that they’re not part of the AMPTP and they agreed to all of SAG-AFTRA’s demands. Credit where it’s due.
Most tone deaf reading of a movie I’ve seen on here in a WHILE. The role of Naomi made Robbie a star for a reason - she’s the only sane person in a film filled with men engaging in dick-measuring contests. I think of that one TikTok with the real Naomi recounting the time (1/2)
All you people pretending you like
#TheWolfOfWallStreet
and saying it’s the greatest movie in existence are lying. Y’all only liked the movie cause Margot Robbie was nude and you sexualize her. Y’all don’t truly care for that movie. This is all fake outrage. Y’all can’t fool me.
She met Margot Robbie, who was a little afraid of filming the sex, and the real “Naomi” (Nadine Macaluso) told her “That fear, of speaking your truth to powerful men? Embrace it!” And she very clearly did. Like I said, the only sane person there. A TERRIFIC performance, even now.
@DevTalks_nz
I’m not saying it isn’t. In fact, I love a lot of their work. But there’s a difference between appreciating a studio’s work and stanning a corporate entity. People shouldn’t make that a part of their personality.
@notlipglosse
And never forget that he got his cinematic start in a film with an important message about being mindful of stereotypes—Attack the Block!

Among what’s been said already, he helped restore The Chess of the Wind, an acclaimed Iranian film once thought to be lost forever because the revolutionary regime almost immediately banned it. So, yes, I think he has.
@RuthWobbles
Sylvie loves making air biscuits, silent meows, Churu, and having crazy dreams. The mild CH only really comes out when she’s excited or frightened. She’s my everything.
@JohnDiLillo
The only thing that would make this worse is if instead of doing the right thing and getting someone like Kavinsky, Gesaffelstein, Sebastian, or Justice to score it, they assume “all French house is like Daft Punk” and get David fuckin’ Guetta
Which performance changed your opinion of an actor or an actress?
I’ve always liked Sally Field, but wasn’t ever wowed by her. That is, until I saw Sybil in a college class. HOLY FUCK. I know the true story has been discredited, but IDGAF, this is a top 5 all time performance.
Which performance changed your opinion of an actor or an actress?
I wasn't a fan of Aaron Taylor-Johnson until I saw Nocturnal Animals. Dude is talented.
@theLordeEnjoyer
On top of that, most of Scorsese’s recent financial flops can be chalked up to mismanagement. Paramount’s old brass had the bright idea to open Hugo against a fucking Twilight movie and gave Silence an advertising/awards budget of $0.0001. I think they’ve learned their lesson.

Agreed. TWOWS is in the Fight Club/American Psycho school of “hypermasculine men exposing their lack of self awareness by idolizing the protagonist,” but not even those were inspirations for rap songs - being in college when “Jordan Belfort” played at frat parties was a dark time

@C4ptin_B
Nope. It’s from the highly infamous All Star Batman & Robin The Boy Wonder, a pretty big contributor to the decline of Frank Miller’s career, but absolutely so bad it’s good.

You Were Never Really Here and it ain’t close, IMO.
Honorable mentions: American Psycho, Point Break, No Longer Human (Ninagawa), Italian for Beginners, The Loveless, The Matrix Revolutions (specifically that one because of its complex views on masculinity)

…respectfully, I don’t make hating hardcore stans of a corporation a big part of my personality. I only prefaced it with that because I was stating an observation.

Pretty much everyone in My Cousin Vinny, but ESPECIALLY Marisa Tomei. It’s honestly not shocking she won an Oscar (rare for a comedic performance these days).

@dykeules
Oh yes. No one gives him enough credit for playing similarly freakin’ unhinged secondary antagonists in musicals (quite an impressive niche even when said musicals are a bit mixed in quality), I think he’d absolutely bring that energy to the Joker
This blew up, wow.
Hi. Trust me, I’m not this aggravating in person. I’m a lawyer who likes movies and I’m in the realm of “love the work, hate some parts of the fanbase” when it comes to A24. If you have the guidance to follow the account, have at it!

Superjail!, Gravity Falls, Gumball, and Chowder are also beloved in these circles. As well as the obscure Hanna-Barbera show The Impossibles.

Oddly enough, it’s not. That honor goes to Golden Door, an underrated romantic drama that is practically PG in every other way. The nudity in question occurs during a strip search when the characters arrive on Ellis Island.

Hell, one of the definitive documentaries on the history of queer cinema to that point, The Celluloid Closet, was released in that era.
Also, several of the best sapphic comedies of all time came out in the ‘00s.

Sylvia, my beloved, is another special little wonky girl, her back legs were in a cow hock formation and she has very mild CH. We both love you, Ruthie!

I kid you not, this is the same judge and prosecutor who were sentencing someone for driving with a suspended license and no insurance, and the guy appeared in court FROM THE INSIDE OF HIS CAR FROM THE DRIVER’S SEAT. 🤦🏻♂️

They did recently approve Vyvanse (which is HUGE considering how stigmatized/highly illegal amphetamines are). Ritalin/Concerta, pemoline (an old stimulant that’s been off the market in the US for a while), Strattera, and I think a few kampo/Chinese medicines are used as well.
