Clearly the message has not sunk in yet so let me repeat. Demonstrating outside of Jewish institutions to protest against Israeli actions is antisemitism pure and simple. It should not be happening in Thornhill or anywhere else in Canada.

It's typical that people deny their own complicity in genocide, deny genocides their nation perpetuated. It happened in Germany. It's happening in Rwanda. Those are the two genocides people point to as being undeniable. If you are denying genocide in Canada, you fit a pattern.

It's not anti-German to oppose the Holocaust. It's not anti-Turkish to oppose the Armenian genocide. It's not anti-Canadian to oppose the genocides of Indigenous peoples. It's not antisemitic to oppose Israel's genocide in Gaza.

Whoever hides behind this account has never read the piles and piles of peer-reviewed published history on residential schools in good faith. Instead they pick and choose tidbits that support their desired interpretation and latch onto the few anecdotes that fit it.

It is false that indigenous children were forced to attend residential schools. Even when compulsory attendance was introduced in 1920, parents had a choice of day school or boarding. Lots of false narratives are going unchallenged by non-objective media. @NCTR_UM @CBCIndigenous

Thread on settler colonialism as moving into homes of people who were expelled. Reminds me of the New England settlers who didn't have to clear land to farm because it was already being farmed. And the gall, then, to justify it by saying Indigenous ppl didn't work it properly.

Was listening to a descendant of a Holocaust survivor retell their story of persecution and when their grandparents moved to Israel and were offered keys to a home - they found plates set on the table. Realizing it was someone's home they immediately saw (con't)

🧵We followed the dump trucks unloading soil on Mohawk territory. We found was construction sites across Laval using Indigenous land to dump their refuse. Experts say this persists because Quebec refuses to enforce its own environmental laws.

In Canada it is well-known that residential schools for Indigenous children were infested with rapists. Less well-known: residential schools were used as boot camps for missionary recruits who then went abroad.

I think we’re going to see many more cases of sexual abuse on the mission field breaking. A missionary doctor whose family attended one of my childhood churches was arrested in a foreign country for sexually assaulting young female patients. This is the tip of the iceberg.

@C_Stroop @katiekelaidis "Paul is awful" was also a key emancipatory revelation to me as I emerged from evangelicalism. It was so freeing to be able to say that parts of the Bible suck after having tried so hard for so long to make sense of the whole thing as God's Word.
