This past saturday the Storyteller artist, co-designer and my ten year gamedev partner Jeremías Babini has died unexpectedly. Beyond making Storyteller beautiful, he poured his humor into every character, every animation, every detail. He gave life to everything we did.
[ANNOUNCEMENT] Today we start working on Storyteller, the videogame about building stories! We partnered with Annapurna Interactive to help us make the highest-quality top-tier game possible (and now we *have* to finish it).
Here's some fun internet drama: Storyteller has been bombed with "it's short" bad reviews and has "mixed" score now, which is bad news on these platforms
Argentina Only 🇦🇷
TLDR:
Massa en la única opción viable para atravesar lo peor de la crisis que todavía está por venir.
Milei/JxC pudieron haber sido un gobierno con propuestas diferentes pero eligieron armar el peor equipo posible.
Este es mi 🧵 al respecto
I quit my day job when I was 30 to start making videogames. I live in Argentina, a third world country. Now that I'm almost 40, I made a game that won an IGF award and I'm friends with the creators I respect the most in the world

Fidel Dungeon Rescue, a puzzle crawler where you are a dog. People who played it like it *a lot* but many missed it when it came out!

My observations about people who teach/learn OOP confirm this: you can talk about object architecture and patterns forever without teaching any programming. OOP is about making up a puzzle to solve and then cram the actual code that solves the problem as an afterthought somewhere
Hypothesis: actually teaching programming is extremely difficult, or maybe impossible, but universities have to offer programming courses which have to say something, and OOP was a savior because it has tons of unnecessary complexity to lecture on.
In a couple hours we release Storyteller for Steam and Switch, the first version we'll put out in the world. We put a lot of effort into making the game worth your time. I hope you like it enough so we get to keep making more of it!
I wish we'd all agreed to stop using the word "content" to mean creative work, it is applied to make our work feel indistinct and unimportant, as something that goes in a jar so someone can sell it
the death of flash is a precedent that show that a disaster can happen: losing a giant ecosystem of games, absence of a competent emulator AND the tech itself being replaced by an even wonkier, unreliable and less accesible toolchain (HTML5+whatever)
Storyteller is played just by drag and dropping characters into a comic strip. This is made possible by a "continuity simulator" that makes characters react to each other, building up a plot that makes sense. The challenge is to come up with a story that satisfy the title!
Storyteller is really worth your time, regardless of whether you like puzzle games, play games regularly or not. If it's too expensive for you right now, wait.
And one last thing: if you are reading this, chances are you have been following me for a while or feel disappointed that this is happening because my twitter followers have always been an outlier of awesome people. I am writing all this because I know that. Thank you!
Nobody on our side is suprised Steam players are finding the game too short, since it is not designed for the kind of players that are vocal steam users. But it is sad that the flock behavior can succeed in getting Steam to bury it, preventing other people from finding the game
Storyteller is designed for people who value their time a lot and are not gaming regulars. Puzzle games almost always have you learn some abstract logic in order to play them, while Storyteller lets you play with the common sense and instincts you bring from outside videogames
Storyteller is a puzzle game where you build stories and you can play a preview right now.
It's the first one of its kind.
Please wishlist it if you are intrigued!
Storyteller comes to iOS and Android through the Netflix app in two weeks on September 26, along with a new content update! Switch and Steam users will also receive the update for free.
The new Storyteller update releases this tuesday! If you haven't played this puzzle game where *you* build the stories, people seem to agree it's very good, and if you have hesitations about the price I strongly suggest you wishlist it today
Steam: why give awards to games that are already selling like crazy and permanently at the top of every list? How about an event where for a week unnoticed great games take over everything? Who knows... maybe you'll get sleeper hits...
Enjoyed The Witness? Like roguelikes? If you own The Witness on Steam, Fidel Dungeon Rescue is 50% off **only for a few days** (discount shows in the cart)
News: We are working on adding new stuff to Storyteller and on September 26 everyone with a Netflix subscription will be able to play it on their phone and tablet!
STORYTELLER is coming to Netflix on September 26 with an update full of new stories and characters to play with! The same update will also be coming to Nintendo Switch and PC.

Jeremías was an unmatched illustrator, animator, he could model, draw, paint, do embroidery, program shaders, he made an entire NES game by himself that runs on the console. He was our Da Vinci. I can't replace him. I will never be the same.
I feel very lucky that I managed to fulfill the promise I made during the hard times, and that he lived and left on his own terms. I believe if he could say one last thing he would say "I am fine with this". Now it's up to us to figure out the rest.
Fidel Dungeon Rescue is a highly praised puzzle roguelike where you are a dog. Carefully designed, with many secrets to discover! Recently updated to 2.5, now it's bigger and better.
Storyteller demo has been played 20000 times already and we didn't need to do any updates. It's running the same version we shipped to Steam before launching. There are minor bugs and design stuff that could be improved, but it's pretty solid!
My "design postmortem" of Fidel, where I dissect how we solved design issues ranging from how we procgen interesting levels to solving baffling ui problems. I crammed as much game design as possible!

why not take a look at this? (Full Disclosure: Fidel is on spot 45 here)
I'd be happy to talk about why the game is not 10x the size or why it does not have a sandbox mode out of the box, but that would mean having a real conversation and not internet shouting.
Next week, Fidel Dungeon Rescue will get bigger, better and more accessible to new players. New worlds, monsters, more tolerance to mistakes/taking your time to optimize the levels!
For those of you still around waiting for Storyteller, wondering what the game is really about and what does it looks like now, I tell you: very, *very* soon.
Late to the party, but Outer Wilds was a worthwhile journey once I was convinced by
@bembidiona
to overcome my initial frustration (I bounced against this game a few times)
We've hit our fist breakthrough since we restarted working on Storyteller. One of those wonderful solutions that fix several problems at the same time, without losing expressive power. I'm so happy to be back to work on this game...
@spectrebrown1
it is valid to say that you wanted more game, the problem is that it's convincing Steam that it's a crappy game and it hurts the possibility of funding more development
