I met up with a young woman I previously fostered, today. She has grown into into an amazing woman and now has her own children. Our kids played happily for a couple of hours; it couldn’t have been more perfect. I’m so proud of her.

🧵 At @Ofstednews we work with many brilliant school leaders who serve as Ofsted Inspectors. They are different from HMI as they are not employed by us and most continue to serve in their own schools and settings. They do receive the same inspection training as HMI though.

The local farm is in crisis. Restaurant closures mean that eggs are being wasted. The town has rallied, buying gargantuan quantities of eggs to keep the chicken’s lives viable. It means pancakes. A lot of pancakes.

@RogersHistory I think conflating poverty with objects will probably skew your view but isn’t an effective way to measure poverty. The things you don’t see have a greater impact on those living on low income.

@Trundling17 Learning about deep dives rather than the actual curriculum is about as useful as learning about driving tests without driving a car. Know your school, curriculum, pupils’ needs, staff training, agreed universal approaches/content and the DD sorts itself.

@SmallSchool_KS2 We inspect using the handbook. There is a whole section that explains our approach to inspecting mathematics para 352. We don’t comment on manipulative or CPA approaches. I think the first bullet is really helpful here. Attached below if it helps 👇

@adamboxer1 Daughter insisted being called ‘baby Jesus’ after a particularly moving Nativity one year. Lasted until around Easter as I recall. Particularly embracing when instructing ‘baby Jesus, put those hot cross buns down and get back to the trolley’ in ASDA.

I used to sail a lot from Poole, home of the RNLI. My family worked for them and I got to see, first hand, some incredible people put their lives on the line for strangers. The sea is cruel and unforgiving, changes in a moment and shows little mercy. I am grateful for the RNLI.

@LolaLovelyBones @MissSDoherty The issue is that pursuing pupils’ interests alone isn’t a curriculum. It means that each topic, lesson, year is completely disconnected from the other. Happenstance and interest can be great, but it isn’t the way to develop the overall plan.

@2tubies Fundamentally, if a school isn’t good for SEND children, it isn’t a good school. We teach inspectors to focus on this in every inspection. The enhanced training builds further on this, of course.

@_MissieBee Some of the best teachers I’ve met have moved between phases. Their understanding of the ‘whole’ curriculum really brings a lot to their work. EY, pri, sec all have their equal part to play in a child’s journey.

@MrAllington Certainly know the feeling and the trepidation. It’s tough and drawn out but necessarily so. The hoops do stack up for prospective parents but it is so worth it. If it helps, if I could go back and have birth children, I wouldn’t. My two are perfect as they are.
