I have opened a Book of Condolence for Shane MacGowan at the Mansion House today. It will be open until 5pm today, and then 11-5 Friday and Saturday. It will be available online also and I will post a link once ready.
For clarification. The Israeli Ambassador contacted the Mansion House for a meeting with me as Lord Mayor.
I raised this at Group Leaders (Meeting with Leaders of all political parties and Independents) I expressed that I was happy to refuse this request,
Terrible news today on hearing of the sudden passing of my good friend from Meath, Cllr Damien O'Reilly. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very sad time. Sleep well x
Announced my intention tonight to have the first ever monthly meeting of Dublin City Council fully in Irish as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge in March. Lots of work ahead!!
On behalf of all the citizens of Dublin, I would like to express my sincere condolences to Charlie’s family and his very many friends and former colleagues on his passing overnight. This is terribly sad news that we are all waking up to this morning,
Delighted and honoured to second the motion tonight that will confer the Freedom of the City of Dublin on Jim Gavin. So richly deserved to such a humble, generous and gracious man.

We talk of O’Connell, Emmett, Tone and Pearse and future generations will speak of Hume. He promoted the values of mutual respect and accepting difference in order to bring the people of Ireland closer together. Ireland has lost a great patriot. John Hume. Peacemaker. RIP
Honoured and delighted to have been re-elected unanimously by my fellow Cllrs to once again become Chair of the Dublin City Joint Policing Committee. Lots of serious issues facing our City through crime and anti social behavior. I look forward to tackling these issues head on
@oconnellhugh
Hugh I am a huge fan of the Sunday Business Post, its journalism and I have a yearly subscription. I am not voting for SG, but I feel this is a nonsense piece and the tee up it got. It references his car going 5-10mph and tipped someone else and his insurers paid out. Relevance?
As Chair of the Dublin Joint Policing Committee, I want to extend thanks and massive congratulations to each and every one of our 1,400 or so
@GardaTraffic
on duty today. A magnificent job carried out by each and every one of them. Well done!!
It was great to chat all things Dublin and the United States with

today. Long ancestral ties bound by friendship and shared values. I look forward to a positive relationship throughout the year.

It was unanimously agreed to go ahead with the meeting by all present and that Group Leaders of all Parties and

Nowhere has Constitution the term Prime Minister. You were elected Taoiseach. Please use correct terminology as befits the office you hold.

It is time we treat addiction problems as a health issue. When will we learn that we lost the war. Shocked and disappointed with this decision. Did a lot of work with this through the JPC I chaired, including having the Minister in to the Committee. Moral cowardice from planners.
Frances will consider her position over the weekend, speak with her family etc etc and decide to walk. Press release will say “in the interest of the nation blah blah blah” and everyone will step back from the brink.
Proud of my Taoiseach tonight, along with everyone working on the front lines to keep us safe. We are a great nation when we come together. Big bro love to my little sis in UHG ❤️

Saddened to hear the news this evening that SF Cllr Criona Ni Dhailaigh will be stepping away from DCC. She is one of the most passionate and caring reps that I have come across. One of the most hardworking people and without doubt she will be missed greatly.
Huge privilege for me last night to turn on the Ballyfermot Christmas Lights. Many thanks to
@LordMayorDublin
Nial Ring for the honour of deputising for him. Great night and everyone was in fine voice after the Ballyfermot Christmas Fair
What a fabulous morning with Lar from
@DublinPortCo
spending time at Poolbeg Lighthouse. A real thrill to get to see inside and hear the history. What a way to spend a bank holiday Saturday.
The influence of the DUP on Ms May and her Government illustrates clearly the worry we had when they entered the Confidence and Supply agreement. As a co-guarantor of the Good Friday Agreement, this shouldn’t be allowed continue into the future. Peace and stability too important.
Last nights images of Children asleep in a Garda station. Is this an Ireland for All??... its time for FG to go. FF should not renegotiate the C&S deal. Cannot understand why the Party continues to prop Leo up. Images a shocking indictment on our society!
Homeless crisis, housing crisis, crisis amongst mid mgmt in Gardai, crisis in health service and yet FF remain content to prop up Leo and the rest of FG. Surely we must aspire to better? I was against this c+s deal in 2016 and even more so now.
Thoughts and prayers are with
@CMOIreland
and his family tonight. Tony has shown tremendous leadership for all of us throughout this pandemic, at great personal sacrifice. Thank you Tony
@Vallmeister
Still.. the statement it makes to our young kids about an Ireland of 2017 where regardless of sexuality, you can become Taoiseach elect :-)
This is not the Dublin I want. Sending solidarity to
@LordMayorDublin
after she was harassed at her home. Racism and harassment should have no place in our society

An Irishman lifts the Claret Jug in Ireland. Shane Lowry. Open Champion. The scenes in Royal Portrush following him were like nothing I have ever seen on a golf couse. Delighted for the Offaly man. Champion Golfer of the Year!

Delighted to launch Funtropolis this morning, but more importantly, proud to launch

Funtropolis will make a triumphant return to the city for 2023 and this time, it’s bigger and better than ever!
Two whole weekends of FREE family fun in Merrion Square Park on July 8th and 9th and in Mountjoy Square Park on August 19th and 20th.

Sad to hear of the passing of Noel Whelan. He was exceptionally generous of his time with me when I was in UCD and we stayed in touch ever since. Reading a lot about how good an analyst and commentator he was, but more than that, he was genuinely a nice person. Sleep well Noel.

I just received a copy of this in my post box in City Hall this evening. Serving 1.35m Dubliners, 162k emergency calls dealt with (122k medical and 40k fire). Phenomenal work from our front line firefighters and paramedics. 👏🏻
@DubFireBrigade
and thank you!!!
As someone who grew up in the late 80’s and 90’s, Jack Charlton defined a childhood. His team, the backdrop of Put Em Under Pressure (Our wedding song 😛) and the pure joy he brought to the people at a time when a country never needed it more. RIP Big Jack

Happy Christmas Everyone. To all our Doctors, Nurses, Guards, Firemen, Paramedics, Coast Guards and everyone across our emergency services who sacrifice making memories with their own families today in order to keep us safe, THANK YOU ❤️

Such a pleasure to chat to young and old throughout the night!
Ludicrous scenes in

@SouthernRailUK
This was nothing to do with over crowding. This was a complete and utter shambles by you. People disembarked the train but so few buses available to accommodate the numbers on the rail service. Shameful service

Massive fire at Thorntons Recycling facility in Ballyfermot. Hope everyone is safe and well and no staff were there at the time. Important to find out what (if any) hazardous materials are there as smoke billowing over residential homes. Stay safe

Reading reports of a Guard shot in Ballymun during a raid. Please god the Guard is ok. Demonstrates the danger our emergency services place themselves in, in order to keep us safe. Disgusting that some scumbag thinks it ok to shoot at Gardai.
Saddened to hear the news that Feargal Quinn has passed away. An absolute gentleman who always stopped for a chat in Leinster House to comment on any flashy tie I was wearing.
Interesting few days ahead. Undoubtedly I would say Frances offered to resign to Taoiseach. All Leo’s strategy now. Either accept it and avoid
