I think the most frustrating part about this is that Gerard Way wrote a really intruiging, different Asian Spider-Woman using Evangelion influences without it being ridiculously racist, and the adaptation took one look at Peni and made her Lowest Common Denominator Anime Girl.

The issue isn't just 'this is a negative depiction of Asian people' the issue is that the specific negative depiction chosen for the Asian antagonists is one that plays on very real racist beliefs by wh1te Americans that Asian countries like Japan are 'stealing their car jobs'.
