for those who said she's not a pilot:

Can we be happy for this young individual?

My mids have never failed to impress me. They’re going to be great officers.
And there it is. Retired USNR after nearly 24 years with 11 years of active duty along the way.
In '99 the first thing an O6 told us was, "You can love the Navy, but the Navy will never love you."
We all found out that was true. We were older. It didn't matter.

reports - and the repairs won't be finished until at least Sept. 2025 (!). Even the location of repairs has not been revealed
Now imagine even a short maritime conflict in which a few US ships are damaged. How long to get those back in the fleet?
How long would it take China to repair them?
One so close, one so far. USS GETTYSBURG CG64 at Norfolk Naval Base 6 April nearing redelivery after 8 years in the Cruiser Modernization Program. Nearby at BAE Systems VICKSBURG CG69 is still a mass of scaffolding and covers after 7 years in the program, nowhere near completion

Now it's back to the civilian gig.
"It's been a good run."
Namaste.
I use the word “unprecedented” judiciously, but as a former 3x Hill staffer, I’ve never seen anything like this. Mark is correct. Hill staff are in the background and don’t pull stunts like this.
I believe this is unprecedented.
Let me put aside the specifics of their protest to note this: Congressional Staff are not supposed to have public opinions - ever. That is for their members. Same for the WH staff - you shut up and support POTUS or you hand in a resignation letter. Nobody elected these people.
That moment you hit the button requesting retirement from the Navy Reserve.
The best part has been the people I met and worked with as well the active duty assignments.
It was a good run. Good luck to the next generation.

This doesn’t account for population density.
I love trains, but for most of the US, it’s impractical. Train from DC to Chicago or New Orleans is 26 hours
And there’s not enough of a traveling population in most of the US for financial sense.

Only one midshipman in the history of the US Naval Academy did not have to do plebe year - Alfred Thayer Mahan - because he had already studied at Columbia.
There is no historical record of him protesting or blocking students from going to class on the basis of their faith.

Protecting the sea lanes has always been a core mission of the navy.
Not the only mission, but a core mission.
I also recommend my interview of Nick Lambert on his forthcoming book on Mahan & $ea Power.
America doesn’t and shouldn’t have a Navy to “police the sea lanes” or “uphold the RBIO.”
It should have one to ensure no potentially hostile power dominates one of the world’s key market areas. That means defeating the PLA in an attack on the FIC.

No. This is not how something becomes “unclassified” according to this member of Congress.
If as an intelligence officer, I’d have done that, my clearance would have been yanked & faced charges.

Elaine Luria has been the best advocate for a stronger navy in a generation. Had her service been continued, in my opinion as a historian, Navy officer & 3X Hill staffer, I think she would have eventually been as impactful as Carl Vinson.
She served honorably.
