When does a name stop being 'foreign'? My family have lived in England for almost 200 years. The most common surname in England is Smith, which is proto-Germanic in origin. Does that mean it's not English? Who gets to join this mythical 'English' club? And who gets to decide?

If you'd like to vote Green, but are voting Labour to oust the Tories, stand down. Democracy doesn't need Labour with a 194 seat majority. Stick an X in that Green Party box so we've got a few socialist MPs in the house to keep them under control.

Running for office is like the longest job interview ever. @RobBryher has risen to that challenge, putting in the miles, both literally and physically. So glad to see his hard work pay off. He's going to be an excellent councillor for St George West!

Thanks so much to everyone for the lovely messages and to the people of St George West for putting their trust in me. I am humbled by your kindness. In 2010, I joined @bristolgreen when we had one councillor, not really knowing where it would go. Take the long road and walk it!

Do you have a couple of hours spare Tuesday evening (2nd April)? I'm looking for 10 volunteers to help finish the Filwood leafleting and allow Danica to rest. Meet 6.30pm at the playground outside @FilwoodCentre . Message me if you can come. @DanicaPriest @bristolgreen

Dissapointed there seems to be no money in Bristol for libraries, arts venues (except the Beacon), SEND education, adult social care, parks or essential public transport (side-eye, WECA) but there is money for Marvin Rees to fly overseas? This is why I left @UKLabour #greenparty

@Samfr I think it's really important to say here that the so-called deficit isn't real. It's a Tory govt creation. Legally, there is no financial limit on the help a young person can recieve to attend school. The Tory's have created this crisis through deliberate underbudgeting.

Look at my face! It's almost normal. Just a bit of cheek swelling that might take a week or so to go down. Antibiotics and the NHS = dream team. I can probably go home tomorrow 🥰

I can't believe I'm having to say this but, PSA, taking the piss out of someone who has suffered a serious injury is not okay. Also, taking the piss out of LGBTQ+ candidates is not okay. Read the manifestos, talk to candidates, vote. Remember everyone is a human with feelings.

@DHTDurrant @kazza_cupcake Sam is an absolute legend but sadly, because his school is so underfunded and oversubscribed, Lily doesn't get the daily check in arranged, messages are not passed on, and she repeatedly receives detentions for no pen. Eventually she drops out of school and dissapears.

@abigailb That's a pretty simplistic breakdown. Proto-Germanic was spoken in a specific area of Europe by a specific group of people. As those people began to migrate and share their language, it became the dominant language framework.

If Mervin Rice hadn't blocked me, I'd let him know how insulting and belittling it is to repeatedly say my name wrong. He gets paid a chunky salary to be Mayor. I took unpaid time off work to hold Cabinet to account - my democratic right. Basic respect is the least he could do.

Thank you Kirsty Young @Emmabarnett for this important piece. We don't talk about chronic pain enough. We don't take it seriously. I've lived with chronic pain since a back injury in 2018 with limited support from medical services. The impact on my life has been huge.

I'm genuinely struck by the lack of compassion in this piece. Firstly, always with the 'working people' rhetoric. What about the 10.8m people who provide unpaid care, saving the government £162bn a year? They work, but often aren't 'working' - don't they qualify for help?

Today Labour is launching our first six steps for change. All of these steps lie on the bedrock of economic stability. A fully costed plan to make working people better off. It’s time for change. That’s what a changed Labour Party will deliver.

Such an important thread. There are many, many people who can't work - disabled people and carers top the list. It's not that they don't want to, it's that they can't. That doesn't mean they don't have value and shouldn't be supported.

1) I'm utterly sick of every government - Labour, Tory, whatever - defining the absolute worth of a person by work. "We'll help people get back to work", "It's important to work", "Everyone should have the goal to return to work", etc. Please understand:

@bristol247 Can't believe @LabourBristol are being so petty and trying to sabotage the new administration. I'm sure many newly elected Labour councillors will be unhappy about this and would prefer to just crack on with the job.

During the General Election, I was harassed online. I'm sure I wasn't the only one. A lot of it was sexualised in nature. It seems unlikely I would have been treated the same if I were a man. I made a complaint to @ASPolice regarding one X user who took it well too far. 1/2

At Cabinet in March Asher Craig said she'd never seen major support at council for SEND and adult social care. Perhaps the utter contempt she and the Mayor treated me with tonight is why. Democratic spaces should be welcoming spaces. Thank goodness this toxicity is ending.

It's essential to point out there is no overspend on SEND, just under budgeting. There is no legal limit on the amount of money a council can spend on supporting SEND CYP. It's guided by needs, as it should be. Central govt have failed to budget adequately for the level of need.
