7 years ago my son had a serious accident whilst doing his DofE expedition. At 14yrs old, he suffered a brain injury and had to learn to walk and talk again. Yesterday he started at Law school. Each year I take him for a meal, just the two of us. Today is breakfast - can’t wait!

Dear Twitter friends, It’s funny what life throws at you. I need to tell you that today I have been told that I have stage 3 endometrial cancer that has also spread to my lymph nodes in other parts of my body - drastically reduces my chances of survival. I’m a tough cookie tho!

I had an emergency hysterectomy because of cancer. The whole thing has been a massive shock. And yet at every scan I have been asked if I am pregnant or possibly could be. At one appointment I was even challenged with “and how do you know?”

I thought I was menopausal - I have grade 2 stage 3 cancer. I had no idea changes in my menstrual cycle were cancer. It took my surgery 4 weeks to give me an appointment and they only did this because the receptionist was an ex pupil who did me a favour. DON’T BE FOBBED OFF!

Today is the anniversary of my first date with Mr D. Yesterday I booked a table for breakfast at 9:15 as he loves a lie in. This am he woke me up at 7:00 - he’d booked exactly the same place for 8:15 as he knows I like to get up early! (34 years on - ahhh!)

I have just spent £34 on a pair of school trousers. I do think uniform should be worn because it’s cheap and practical - except that at some schools it’s not. Supermarket school trousers £4 Logo posh trousers - £34 Stupid uniform should be banned

We had the Ofsted call last week. Due Nov 22 we have been waiting 20 mths We’ve been told we won’t get the draft (daft) report until the autumn because they need 18 sch days to produce it. I now have zero respect - I couldn’t give a monkeys about their stupid one word judgement.

We were in a restaurant today and a family at the next table had two children. When they left they literally stood up and left pencils all over the floor, salt and pepper pots and sauce pots on the floor. Masses of food debris, paper and serviettes. Is this now normal?

Each year at school we try to order 2 tonnes of sand. We even make beach huts. Everyone uses the beach (EYFS to year 6) some of our children had never been to the beach. (Make sure it’s not builders sand - it makes them orange!) #TinyVoiceTalks

I’m hearing of so many teachers leaving. They are finding that their skill sets are lapped up by other organisations. They are lured away by private healthcare, hybrid working, flexible leave, good pay and respect. Something has to be done to rescue education.

Lots of posts about “tokenistic” gestures like doughnuts etc. Bear in mind that when I buy cakes and treats these come out of my pocket because I understand that staff appreciate a decent mug of coffee and a treat. That does not mean I do nothing else for their well-being.

We had Ofsted this week on the same day the results came out. 97.6% in reading and sig above average in everything else- which for our school context and with mixed classes is phenomenal. Did they take any notice of this- no they did not as it’s not “verified”.

I’m back! After 6 hours surgery, 18 weeks chemo, 25 sessions radiotherapy. Now referred to Guys but doing ok! We had Ofsted in the penultimate week of term - nearly finished me off. I’ve spent the whole summer mooching around Europe on the trains and I’m now ready for action!

Met on site with someone from my LA. She said she had to get permission from a senior manager to visit because of strict Covid rules. I said it made me feel the LA thought my life was worth less than hers as I have had to come to work throughout no one said it wasn’t safe for me

I went to the cinema last night. I couldn’t concentrate because I was convinced Ofsted would ring this Monday. We have been in the Window since Nov 22. In that time I have been prescribed meds for high blood pressure, had an MRI for headaches and been diagnosed with cancer.

We have a poltergeist at school. It’s friendly but annoying. Christmas Day I got a message from a neighbour to say the hall lights were on. I went in and switched them off shouting Merry Christmas. I was the last person in school - the hall lights were definitely off.

Schools are all different- some are easier to run than others. When I went into to a special measures school it was easy to turn around- others harder. Some schools are hard every day. Do what is right and don’t be swayed by charismatic HTs and WOW articles about other schools

My 81 year old mum has fallen on the South Downs. She lay on the ground for 3 hours and is now in Brighton hospital awaiting surgery on a nasty compound leg fracture. No one is allowed to be with her. This year is like a tsunami of sh**!

So, I have escaped here for an overnight stay. It’s bliss. I have a scan next Tuesday to see what state the cancer is now. I’ve had major surgery, 4/6 chemo treatments and have no brows or lashes (odd). I’m hopeful and grateful. Life is precious- don’t waste it. Xx

@credland_nicki I found compassion and love when I saw my dad in ICU. There was no hope of survival but they treated his feet and bathed him and talked to him. He was treated with the utmost respect and care

We had the call last week. The children were off to roller disco at the YMCA. I asked Ofsted if they like to go too. They declined. I am sad because I couldn’t go because of them and also didn’t get to see Mrs Jacobs do it.

I’m just thinking that Ofsted haven’t rung for another week. We are all living on our nerves but we’re on our knees. I’m concerned that they will come when I have an Oncology appointment. Alternatively they’ll leave it until I am in the middle of my NPQEL assessment.

The resignation date isn’t the date you have to resign. If you are offered a job before then resigning in advance of the deadline is enormously helpful to your school.

Since my diagnosis I am fascinated by responses. Some unfollowed me- some ignored me- some distanced themselves as if they’d catch it. Others treated me like I was already incapable and not worth any time or investment. My team have been amazing. I’ll be back stronger than ever!

I’ve been feeling sorry for myself this week (5 out of 6 chemo completed whilst working full time) My lovely friend sent me flowers and another Twitter friend tagged and sent good wishes. Never underestimate the impact you have on people. Kindness is literally keeping me going

@tes @GavinWilliamson @MattHancock How? Just how? I have 2/3 of my children (over 200) self isolating and I’ve got so few staff I have the site manager and receptionist on playground duty.

@Teacherglitter I agree - my children are at home supervising themselves - thankfully they are teenagers. My fridge is empty, the house is wrecked and I have no idea if they have actually done any learning as I’m in school supervising key worker children.

Twitter is a funny old thing. I’ve lost some followers - I guess it’s because I’ve stopped tweeting edu stuff and have done some tweets about my family as I’m on holiday. I’ll get back to it but I’m not here for the follows and I am on holiday.

@KindlyLoudly If you have cancer you don’t have a choice- you have to turn up and go through it. It doesn’t care how positive or determined you are. No one wins. It’s not a fight. someone told me - just keep battling towards my goal. I was furious and hurt. I am just trying to stay alive.

@halfironmum It’s hard and they put up with a lot of nasty people. But… the receptionist said “you’re iron isn’t that low”. I had an urgent iron infusion 3 days later as I was dilute to have surgery
