I'm on the job market and I had multiple people ask me whether I saw "that one chair on Twitter sharing the details of their job search?" YES, I have, and it is making a significant mark in the field and among the applicants. take notice! Thank you

junior faculty search. We received 135 applications, and had an 11 member search committee go through them all. Each application was read by 3 faculty and scored. We then selected 14 for Zoom interviews and sent them the questions below ahead of time. 1/
We are thrilled to announce the 2023 Leading Edge Fellows - 30 visionary postdoctoral researchers in the life sciences!
We are excited to hear from them at the Leading Edge Symposium (in-person

This little scientist-in-training kept asking if she can get 'her own protein'. So, today - since we like it when dreams come true - we made one. She picked the colors 😅Mitoribosome officially belongs to Zosia🤷♀️Thanks

I had a fantastic time at the UCLA Mito symposium - so grateful for being able to share my work with a wonderful & welcoming mitochondrial community! big thanks to

When I was a graduate student my daughters daycare was $450 more than my paycheck… we could only afford it for 4 months. After that, I took unpaid leave for a few months and transitioned to postdoc.

MITOtalks season 2 starts next week -
@RutterLab
will be our first speaker, and we can't wait.
And we have a new module: time travel.
Would you like see mitochondria from the future?
The MITOchats take you there...
I'm blown away!!! 170+ attendees, close to 40 Q&A's for our first session of MITOchats. Thank you all, especially our speakers
@mitobrandon
@rsisaac
and
@A_Irazoki
. See you all again on Nov 17!
@MitOtalks
Wrapped up my first
@KeystoneSymp
, had a fantastic poster session, a short talk, met so many fantastic people and some of my (many) science heroes 💪 It’s also been my long time dream to take my kids to a conference and I finally got the courage to do that😁

I can't express how valuable these seminars have been for the students & postdocs who had such limited opportunities to share their work over the last 2 years! Don't miss out - abstracts are due by the end of the week!
Do you feel like MITOchatting?
Are you a graduate student or postdoc and your project is at an advanced stage, ready to share with the world?
Send us your abstract by January 15th, with your name, affiliation, and email, to:
Waiting for you!!
@Cassie_Boness
thank you for sharing this and I am sorry you had to deal with this. When I got pregnant with my daughter as a 4th-year grad student, a professor (not my PI) assumed I will be leaving academia and was completely shocked when I asked him for a letter of rec for a postdoc🙄
@bomba_ewa
set the bar high today, kicking off our

postdoc talks with a beautiful and rigorous deep-dive into the speed at which tissues refresh their mitochondrial proteins.

K99 budget question: has anyone had the university block their salary request for K99? I budgeted according to the

People all come in with different "baggage" - my final questions were 1. contact to HR for health insurance plans (my grad school didn't cover mental health) and 2. PI's vacation policy. No vacation policy (i.e. people in my lab take vacation and I never say "no") = red flag.
Let’s hope the rest of the

goes according to the plan because forgetting my wallet was not it 👀 😅 upside - I got to see these happy kiddos…. in pajamas… at the airport… at … 5am 😴🥱

When not in lab (or running after my little ones) I co-run an Air Roastery with my hubby! ☕️ we started to roast our own coffee about 10 years ago, and this weekend we did our first expo! It was fantastic - practice from poster presentations came in handy !! 😂
When I interviewed for a postdoc with Jeff, this paper's first major data point just landed and the entire lab was buzzing with excitement! Congrats

Northwestern Medicine investigators have developed a method to measure protein expression in an individual neuron, a discovery that will enable scientists to study how this process goes awry in disease, per Molecular Psychiatry.
Incredibly proud of this series - thanks to all of the wonderful speakers who shared their work with us, and VERY special thanks to

Not a reviewer, but my 1st author paper was accepted 3 days before the K99 deadline & I was scored poorly (3-4s) on productivity. I think if a postdoc is pressed by the eligibility, getting an A0 w/o paper gets the foot in the door, and then a solid chance to improve w/A1.
3 years ago on a coffee plantation in Hawaii we ran into the owner who was hand-picking coffee cherries. While we chatted about coffee roasting (we have a small coffee roastery), he picked a few berries and handed them to us :-) well *drumroll* we have our first coffee flower!!
