Sutter Hill invested $5 million in Snowflake’s Series A in 2012
Their stake on IPO day last week was worth $12 billion
That’s a 2400x return in 8 years
Why Uber drivers are contractors
1. They drive their own car
2. They use their own phone
3. They don't *have* to show up to work, ever
4. If they disappear for a month, or a year, they aren't "fired"
5. They can drive for Lyft or Amazon or Postmates too
@Smorgasboredom
I've never heard a Joe Rogan podcast, but judging by his followers, he definitely fits the bill for dumb person's idea of a smart person
Pure rent-seeking behavior from states like New Jersey with large pension liabilities looking to collect payroll taxes is not going to change the reality that Uber drivers behave significantly more like contractors than like employees
@garrytan
imagine pretending to be for education, but then banning algebra in middle school;
being for immigration, but then telling new sf residents to go back to where they came from;
being for housing for everyone, but then banning high rises from most of the city
That’s them
@nivi
credit to Sam & Greg, it sounds like they built an absolutely insanely talented team with high integrity and loyalty
their only mistake was creating OpenAI as a non-profit and appointing career opportunists to the board out of naivete and idealism
Tl;dr Emil is saying Benchmark/Bill Gurley were against Dara’s appointment as Uber CEO to the point where they said they’d drop the lawsuit against Uber if the board voted against Dara and for Meg Whitman
Travis was for Dara
Now Gurley seems to take credit for Dara 🤯
Truth
#1
: CEO vote by
@Uber
board stalemated at 4-4. Benchmark against Dara, Travis for. Bench then tried to trade dropping lawsuit against Uber to sway vote against Dara, for Meg. This infuriated one who took it as their lawsuit being BS and instead changed vote to Dara, 5-3.
@zachtratar
The unanimity is due to Ilya’s silence and the board’s lack of transparency about the statement they made, coupled with their willingness to fold quickly when questioned by Microsoft and the other investors

@Noahpinion
Direct correlation with the number of PhDs they hire
Larry and Sergey were entrepreneurial PhD candidates so they thought filling their engineering ranks with researchers would be great
Turns out that PhDs publish, but PhDs don’t ship
@the_transit_guy
The new highway is amazing
Can’t believe people would choose a bunch of random ugly parking over a highway that connects people and enables commerce
This is grade A first class horse shit
Kevin, do your job, stop telling citizens how to react to violent murders in their neighborhoods, and start arresting people
WATCH: San Francisco Police Commissioner
@KevinMBenedicto
speaks on Bob Lee killing.
"We don't know all the facts...But I find it premature and distasteful to try to fit this horrifying act of violence into a preconceived narrative and use it to advance a political agenda."
@garrytan
My parents could afford it, but I still only used 10 real SATs and Gruber’s verbal book and came pretty close to a perfect SAT score
(It helped that my parents got me the Gruber’s book in 7th grade, so I got a multi-year headstart)
Parental involvement is the key missing piece
@garrytan
It is not surprising that a communist or socialist would hate a moderate capitalist more than they would hate a reactionary fascist
Fascists and communists/socialists usually team up, historically speaking
@zachcoelius
The lender should sue the city of San Francisco for breach of contract (they pay a ton of taxes; the city fails to keep their end of the bargain)
@laura_waxee
@brezina
@salesforce
It’s misleading bc your headline is leading people to believe that salesforce is pulling out of the tallest building in sf that everyone knows as salesforce tower
In reality, they are consolidating at salesforce tower and giving up all the other legacy space in sf in older
@tszzl
they're closing + banning nuclear power plants nothing while their constituents are burning wood and garbage to stay warm -- its way worse than doing nothing
I invested $100k in Snowflake on IPO day at $232 per share & sold at $270 per share on the same day for a 1.16x return in a few hours
Should I be a fund manager? 😇
@Austen
Entirely accurate based on my day to day experience - and it’s not just from tech, many Indian-American households are two-doctor households, or high cash flow producing small businesses (seven elevens, days inn, etc)
I'm looking for a Director of Product to lead strategy and execution (and mentor PMs) for Rally's virtual care experience
Must be a builder and strategic thinker who wants to fundamentally rethink and change at scale how people get healthcare nationwide

Yeah I think he's wrong. Higher-end Airbnbs can be amazing and beyond compare, but a $100 Marriott beats a $100 Airbnb 9 out of 10 times.
Re: uber, cabs can never beat uber unless in a cab line at the airport when its raining
@rodeopart3
Watched both this past week and they’re just very different movies — I prefer Margin Call by a sliver but the Big Short is a blockbuster (and it is incredibly hard to make an accurate amazing film **and** be a blockbuster)
It’s insane and hilarious how super ideological leftists will try to make you believe that this dude lucked into Tesla through some south African mining fortune 😂
