Drift was added to the show for the Syracuse run. The Act 2 opener used to be So Much In Common. There were too many ballads in succession in Act 2, so J&R had the idea to move SMIC to bump the energy. And then they wrote Drift - one of thr most theatrical moments in the show!

The “going places” refrain was the last section added to the opening number just before our run in Syracuse. J&R did a huge rewrite to introduce all of the character’s day-to-day routines. I think it’s a brilliant lyric and captures so much of what our show is about.

(2/4) - It sounded like Broadway was a playground for artists to try new, bold ideas onstage. Take a show like Pacific Overtures - the Shuberts booked the Winter Garden for them before anyone knew what the show really was! They believed in the way they were pushing the art form.

The famous Belasco “Elephant Room.” When they closed the Hippodrome Theatre, Harry Houdini needed a new theatre to perform his famous disappearing elephant trick. They built a trap room in the Belasco below the stage big enough to fit an 🐘! Plot twist-he never got to do it here!

@amylynnuws @ohiomusical Seeing the show in front of an audience has showed us that more clearly. The team has been working on the Amigo/Ashley material to make sure their part in the story is well defined. There is thematic significance to their roles and hopefully that will be clearer! New musicals!

When J&R brought this scene/song to present to Hal, I saw his influence on them. I expected a dress shopping song like Welcome to the 60’s. Its brilliant to shift the perspective in this moment to hear from these 2 mothers. It’s a way to bring the audience in through a back door.

@kaylamichutto @ohiomusical Working with and learning from the autistic community has been very meaningful. The stories I’m most drawn to as a producer are the ones that uplift underrepresented communities and I believe they have the power to bring us all closer together. To me, that’s Broadway.

“An industry woefully short of visionary leaders” ?? Sorry, Peter Marks, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. There is a whole generation of visionary leaders knocking on Broadway’s door waiting for the theatre owners & the league to give us a shot.

(3/5) I believe Broadway should be the preeminent platform for NEW stories and NEW artists. Think how many of the greatest artists of our time got their start on Broadway. The new artists we are introducing to Broadway with @ohiomusical are the next generation.

(2/5) We’re doing Broadway OUR way and I think audiences are connecting to the care we’ve put into this company and the experience. New musicals are tough and are also the most rewarding (and to me, the most exciting!).
